My love, you can't be honest, how can you expect her to like something about you that you can't even show her? Maybe when you lose the fear of being yourself she can fall in love with who you really are. It's unfair to expect something like that from her, when you don't even give her the opportunity. Shima doesn't have the courage to show his flaws to her, he just wants to show his good side and be a better person, but then he is disappointed that her feelings are not so deep? You need to be honest and show yourself completely to the person you like so that they can love you completely too

I just can't help but say this chapter is another masterwork by Takamatsu Misaki-sensei.

Deym, I can't help but smile reading how things went through this chapter.

But his entire personality is built around the fact that he doesn't show himself. It's tough to override your core personality.

Actually I think his biggest problem isn't that he can't show his "true self," it's that he believes his own personality isn't "true." Like it or not, his kind and considerate attitude already is a part of who he is. Ironically, he thinks that how he treats Mitsumi comes from feelings "much deeper than that," which makes his "fake" way of acting a genuine one. He's so close to the mark, yet so far.

Another irony is Mitsumi already understands who Shima "really" is pretty well, even if she doesn't articulate it here. That's literally what was going through her mind leading up to her confession way back ("I like this weird, detached, melancholy side of him, too," to paraphrase). She already accepts (or is willing to try to accept) both the positive and negative sides to his personality.

I'm glad that he decided and confessed that he still needs a lot of work, but I'm sad that he thinks he's so behind than he actually is. I'm sure that as he takes steps to "become a better person," he will realize where he's at and what he actually needs work on.

Another amazing and frustratingly relatable chapter.

Aaaaahh!!! This was amazing. Run, my boy, run to her. Like, Mitsu would already accept him if he'd let her, but he's gotta do that emotional work to allow himself to be loved: he has to recognize he's worthy of it.
And Mitsumi was so cute in her little fit. I believe in these kids. What an incredible manga.

I find myself crying in this particular chapter!!! i honestly do not need an explanation what shima and mitsumi's label, this genuine care and love they share between each other with shima's desire to grow to feel like he is enough while in mitsumi-chan's side, she has always thought of shima because of his kindness, and though, it did start with insincerity in shima's part, (which i believe are not entirely true! do not push down yourself too much shima ๐Ÿฅน) what matters is that shima love mitsumi as a person enough to desire being better.

i just cried at the part when mitsumi immediately wanted to make shima better when she realized that her answer to his question about what mitsumi liked about shima, she told him that come to her to praise him so that he would not be insecure.

i am so glad for shima, even though people have been very, very glad of this possible ace spectrum visibility (everyone were suscpecting he might be an aro/ace, that might change things a little now) - those labels just reveal a part of himself. it is also a part of reclaiming of himself because there were times he acted just to survive and loved but now, this is his own desire - not influenced by what people see of him but because mitsumi will love and like him regardless of he is, gives him strength to better himself. to see his own authentic self ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅน

@perseii Yes, I agree with everything you said, I was more questioning his way of thinking lol

Speaking from his perspective, if he believes he's being fake with her, that he's not being himself, how does he expect her to talk about anything different? Leaving all this aside, because he doesn't know or hasn't accepted it yet. And then he comes to the conclusion that he has to create a version of himself that reaches her level. A conclusion that really is close to the mark, but still so far.

I love this drama, it's so well done, I feel sad for them and I want everyone to be happy, but a little part of me wants them to stay that way just a little longer

@perseii Hey I didn't know you were reading this too!

Spot-on breakdown; Shima's rigid thinking just reads so obviously wrong from the outside, but I've literally been there, walking in those shoes myself. It almost hurts.

@eksratu Also glad to see a fellow reader. It really is a gem. This chapter in particular resonated with me so much that I had to say something.

I also relate to Shima a lot, as someone who used to have anxieties about "not having a personality" and "having to get good enough for this person." But honestly, I can see a bit of myself so clearly in so many of these characters that it's actually shocking.

Man, I love this manga. Every character seems like a perfect case study. You can spend a long time just reflecting on the relationships and thought processes illustrated by the author.

Shima's thought process in this chapter, in particular, was almost funny. I think we've all been there, just reaching conclusions in our own time, even if they were clear to people around us.

Mitsumi is hilarious xD..... That scene where she was talking about Ujie had me cackling. Man I wish I could go to T-uni with her.

At least Shima has identified his issues. Most teenagers never even get to this point.

awww you can tell that Shima is genuinely in love with Mitsumi because he wants to become a better person for her, even though he's already a good person
