What i loved about this episode, aside from the stellar direction and animation, is how well the strawhats are portrayed as “celebrities”.
It was also cool seeing how powerful and overwhelming the main cast is to the eyes of civilians, especially during the Marineford segment.
I wouldn’t mind at all seeing more episodes focused on “outsiders” but with main events unfolding in the background.

Agreed, it's a great concept, I wonder where it originates from, because One Piece certainly isn't the 1st show doing this.

I loved watching how the Strawhats and other important characters influence the One Piece world. That brook fan, the powerscaling discussion, the book about Franky... It really makes you fell that the world is alive, and that it changes, moved by the actions of the characters. In my opinion, that new perspective, added to the excellent work of Ishitani, makes this episode a truly beautiful experience for every One Piece fan.

While I didn't enjoy this episode that much, I agree it was its biggest strength. Lighthearted scenes featuring regular people doing regular stuff, with the main cast turned into celebrities. Their screentime was limited to several cameos, which worked very well to flesh out the more commoner-centered episode concept.
