I've never really understood the hate this show gets. I'm fairly new to romance anime, but when I saw the average ratings for all three seasons, it really surprised me. Personally, I think this show is incredible, and I love the slow-paced, developing story. I rated seasons one and three a 9/10, and season two an 8/10. It just doesn’t make sense to me why the average ratings are so low for what I consider such an amazing story.

Let me know your thoughts 😊

Most of it is because of the MC being either really stupid or really cowardly.

It's like this when you eat cake every day you start to get sick of it.

It doesn't have anything to do with quality of the show.

Some people just don't like the Mc's lack of confidence.

Some people aren't patient enough from the slow pace maybe cos they have watched too many shows with slow pacing and just want quick progress.

In conclusion, People like to focus on the negatives more then the positives, just human nature.

"one complaint drowns our 10 claps as they say."
But forget you find the show fun that's all that matters.

I think it's just because of the lack of story progression and insufferable MC. Lack of story progession I can't defend, but I've seen people complaining about the MC, even though I think he's needed to be like that for the story. Rs though Rent a Girlfriend is solid

I can understand why but I am not apart of the hate since there are scenes that I actually enjoy. There are definitely characters I hate but the think the one carrying the show is Chizuru

The premise of the show, where a man rents a girlfriend, raises ethical questions about objectification and the commodification of human relationships. The main character, Kazuya, is often criticized for being self-centered, immature, and lacking empathy.the characters in this show don't undergo significant growth or change throughout the series. This can make them seem one-dimensional and uninteresting

Most of it boils down to Kazuya’s personality and the lack of romantic progression. But as far as I’m concerned, both of these things are done intentionally, and are literally part of the show’s appeal. I know for damn sure that it appeals to me, there’s very few things about this anime in general that I’d want to change.

I’m also aware that the manga is supposed to take a nosedive at some point, which the anime should be approaching pretty soon. Even a lot of people who shared my high opinion of the series initially seem to agree that it went downhill in the manga. But I haven’t read the manga, so I’d rather wait to see how it is in the anime before jumping on the hate train. There’s always the chance that they cut out/rewrite some of the content, or there’s the chance that I just may not end up sharing the same criticisms that everyone else has. Guess I’ll see 🀷🏽‍♂️

I'm not a part of the hate, I'm more neutral. but the issue of why people hate this show is because it's slow. Too damn slow, over 300 chapters and still they aren't a couple

Those who are new to romance anime will see no problem with it,

Those who have watched many romance anime will feel a little annoyed.

Those who have almost all romance anime will may hate it.

The more you experience something the less you are surprised by it and the less it surprised by the more bored you get and boredom leads to leads to either annoyance or abandonment.

yeah agreed. I watch/read romance mostly and although this is considered garbish, I've read worse *cough* domestic girlfriend.

and that's why I'm neutral for this series, I have parts I hate and parts I enjoy. Though Kazuya is a pain in the ass and it's definitely being carried by Chizuru

It’s because the two main characters are really badly written and after nearly 350 chapters in the manga, there’s been very little development in terms of the two characters relationships. It just goes round and round in circles.

The hate came from the Manga readers. They've seen how the story goes. Anime hasn't yet reached that point yet where things just don't develop. But ig from this season it'll start. Anime has been fine so far, like most other romances. But this season will cover the chaps where ppl actually started to dislike the series.

1. Becouse this is popular statement like for e.g for SAO
2. They didn't see bad enough MCs
3. Get triggered by low esteem MC with Passion for helping girl he adores as being alphas

It got overhated because at first it was overhyped and kinda annoying. It is by no means a bad show, even if I personally don't like that the pacing is THAT slow, but it is nothing too special either, nothing new or unseen before. So calling it "mid" is kinda what the definition of "mid" originally was meant to be, not good not bad just mid. And I think because of the initial hype people that had higher expectations on it just started to call it mid for that reason. To be honest, althoug I don't agree with the hate against Kazuya, I see why people are mad with this story, in my opinion it started quite good, the premise wasn't too bad, and although many people hate on the whole renting-thing, Escort-Services are a real thing even in the western hemisphere, so it had a reasonable plot point. But this and the initial hype around it left many people disappointed because of the mismatch between the expectations and the things they then got out of it.
For me personally it's no problem that it is slow paced, wouldn't be the first Anime for me, but it's more that it goes almost all in to then just back out of it while feeling unnatural at it. Both MC's just don't feel real that way. It just feels like it constantly makes promises to then just break them and leave you disappointed. And I once was at the same point as you, liking it, dont getting the hate at all, but after last seasons end it just left me deeply disappointed. I personally hoped for more. More Uniqueness, more consistent Character Developement, more consistent pacing in their relationship. It just felt kinda annoying that this Anime takes you on it's hook for so long, letting you believe it's how you like your RomCom just to then just see it's not for you after like three seasons worth of time wasted. And I think that is a big part of why everyone is so annoyed with it.

Read manga and you will see that Mizuhara is one to blame for lack of progress between main characters. I mean, you will see the start of infinity in the first ep. of season 4.

I mean you can already see it even as anime only, Mizuhara sometimes catches the feels for Kazuya but never truly expresses her raw feelings until recently to him.
Even when Mizuhara defended Kazuya when Mami was talking mad shit when not obligated to do so, Kazuya saved her when she fell over the boat when not obligated to do so, Kazuya financially supporting her dream to be an actor when she felt depressed when another actor got recruited instead of herself, Mizuhara refusing to be another actor's girlfriend, Kazuya supporting her after she lost her family member even when she didn't want him to, Kazuya breaking down her barriers that allowed her to be vulnerable to only him other than to her granny, Kazuya filming her début movie. How many more flags do you need and WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT FROM KAZUYA BRUH.

She wouldn't even have had to deal with Ruka cockblocking them from her pseudo girlfriend relationship with Kazuya had she just given Kazuya a chance. Especially now since Ruka is seeing their vibe as a threat to her position. All could've been avoided when they were first looking for a real girlfriend for him in the first place. That Kazuya even hoped for it to be Mizuhara. Even if their relationship started out as being a fake one. It was until now when Yaemori spelled it out for both (mostly to Mizuhara), that they acknowledged and stopped being as reserve about their feelings for each other.

Man just recalling this show already brings out the ire in me. So much going on yet no one is wanting to take the initiative to progress their relationships except for Ruka. Seems like Mizuhara is a pain in the ass to pursue intimately by how reserve she is, and Ruka is being done dirty as she is treated more as the side chick fighting for Kazuya to look her way. Mami is still as insufferable as ever trying to make Kazuya's life worse since if she isn't happy, no one around her can be. Sumi is a friend anyone could ask for.

Just waiting for something to happen past a "What are these feelings I have for blank?" and I finally got a piece of it in S3.

I like the show, but bro, when there is a full minute masturbation scene, I don’t know if most people really thinks it’s that funny. It was mad awkward. I get the hate.

Also blue haired girl sucks and her fanbase sucks

I didn’t hate it that much. I thought of it as mindless entertainment. However, seeing as how this got a 4th season when Nagatoro or Komi hasn’t gotten a 3rd and LITERALLY, Nagatoro could possibly be finished with one more season since the manga ended in WAAYYY LESS CHAPTERS than both Komi and Rent a Girlfriend, I’m upset.

well firstly congrats to have found love in your life 😁
For the answer to your question, the main reason is the shitty MC with no balls, the repetitive scenarios (i've seen the manga a little), the anime is slow but the manga is well . . . not even progressing.
My personal reason why I hate this show isn't because I feel this show is horrible, but because it infuriates me to see the fact that This show gets a new season but anime like, Tomodachi Game, No Game No Life, and many more don't. . .

First of all, this show is dependent upon the situational comedy more than the basic funny dialogue comedy and therefore it includes a lot of scenes which are cringe rather than being funny and have a lazy dialogue writing. It introduces plenty of characters without properly developing anyone except Chizuru as all the things revolve around her apparently in this story & therefore other characters like Ruka, etc. just become plot device for the convenience. Sumi Sakurasawa was a character with the probability of most potential in this series and what they did to her?

Although I am not a Kazuya hater, because there are a lot of such dudes that I know in the real life but the thing is the way he has been portrayed that even after making so many mistakes consistently it is all working out in his favour..... that just passes the wrong message to the audience. Ruka is the probably the most annoying of the whole cast and yeah not to forget that the progress of their relationship is unbelievably so slow that it slowly becomes repetitive on the most occasion.

Thus, I feel it's not about whether this show is good or bad, it's just about how it wasted it's potential and the opportunity on several occasion just to stretch its cringe moments with a set of predictable storyline.

I actually really liked the slow developing romance too, but the stupid decisions that stretch it out in the first place get worse and worse and you will see how, with that content that season 4 adapts. Mini is a very underappreciated character though, she's the best part of this show :D

Well, I have seen the first two seasons and I really don't like either of them, they were both 5/10. I am watching the third season right now, and I think I might hate it even more? Not sure, I will wait until I am done with it before I settle on any opinion about it.

But as for why I dislike the show, it is because the protagonist is an extremely whiny, cringe, cowardly character who continually puts his foot in his mouth, ends up escalating situations to made up crises, has it blow up in his face, and then refuses to learn from it. And then that entire cycle is repeated, over and over and over and over. There's no growth. There's no stakes, there's nothing that sells any of this as remotely believable, let alone likeable. The main character is a loser, the side characters are varying shades of either unpleasant (such as someone like Ruka, who is positively toxic) or literal wish fulfilment tropes masquerading as characters with no actual depth or substance to them (Sumi).

Why do I keep watching the show? Well, Chizuru is hot, and so is Mami (and Mami is also at least a fun villain, even though she's as thinly plotted as all the rest of the characters). I guess that's enough to have made me slog through 24 episodes of this nonsense so far.

Jesus Christ.
