Read the manga before watching the anime and I was anticipating the dance scene from the flashback. I can’t remember how long it actually took in the manga, but it felt like a memorable event for the two. After watching the anime in its entirety I feel a little bit sad we never got to witness the dance fully (yeah Ik they show it in the OP/ED but i just wanted more from it…) Also in the anime they teased it all the way up to the flashback, only to cut away at the last second like I wanna know the decision behind that and why there was never an extended scene to begin with. Still LOVE the anime but I would’ve gave it a 10/10 if I saw the two dance a lil more😭 Lemme know your thoughts

This is a LN adaptation.
If I recall correctly, the LN also does not go in depth into their middle school dance scene?

Has been more than a year since I read the earlier volumes, I need to check again.

NewestPersonHere, you'd be spot on about that. I read the light novel, at least up to that point, and they did talk about it a little, but I don't think they went into full detail about the scene. It wasn't depicted how it was in the manga, which I will say was beautiful, but as a light novel adaptation, there was no reason to adapt that scene into the anime.

@NewestPersonHere They actually do - well, almost. Masachika was barely able to keep up with Alya during the dance. I reckon they should've animated it, nonetheless. There will be another flashback of their dance in S2, so they might animate it partially.

Around 0:52

+ In the LN the dance wasn't really the big thing. What was big was how Masachika took her out of her torment on that day and that's exactly what they showed in the anime.

Look at the last paragraph

The dance scene defines who Masachika and his relation with Alya are. That's exactly what they show in the opening.

First part : He helps Alya dancing and shining on stage
Second part : Alone in the dark he follows Alya's star to see the light again.
Third part : Even though he has his own issue when Alya is alone in the dark he gives up on his own torments and shields Alya
Last part : They face each other in the light showing how they trust each other for better days to come.

The opening from 0:52 really shows the dance scene while translating into images what required words in the novel.

And that's what you call a masterpiece

@DragyG Have you ever been told that analysation and interpretation is one of your fortè? Well if not, I'm telling you now. You're one hell of an analyst and an observer.
