News just came out that next week will be the final chapter. I am not caught up to the series, is it a natural end or did it get axed?

@Red_Ranger_Wien What a shame. It is just kinda weird, there are quite a few manga on J+ which sell way worse. But, oh well. Let's hope for a decent ending at least.

@Rammelbips On J+, Views are more important than sales.

It's a combination. There is a reason that Muscle Island and The Game Devil got axed. Goze had a combination of bad sales and atrocious views, but for instance Navigatoria is doing way worse in both and Blight of Man also only has a little bit more views (around 100 thousand) and it is still going.

SJ editors wouldn't recognize a good series, even if it hit them in the head.

@SteelingMax It wasn't popular on Jump+ and it sold quite badly. The jump editors don't decide based on if a series is a masterpiece, they decide based on popularity and sales. Goze Hotaru had neither, so it got the axe. In the end Jump is a business and it needs to make money to stay afloat.

@Rammelbips People need time to discover series like this, 2 volumes isn't enough, Goze Hotaru didn't have Kaiju#8 or Samurai#8 levels of marketing, plus it's a J+ series, it costs them almost no money to keep publishing it on the site, i doubt the manga sales weren't enough to pay the regular salary of the mangaka and their assistants.

Plus this type of series always explodes after an anime adaptation, what would have been of Demon Slayer without the anime, it would probably have been cancelled as well.

@SteelingMax Just say that you have no clue how the manga industry works. Kaiju No.8 got so big with the exact same circumstances as Hotaru. No J+ series ever get's any "marketing". It does cost jump money to keep the series running. The author, assistants, editors etc etc all need to get paid, the volumes need to sell enough to make printing them worth it. And Hotaru did not bring either of those. It's popularity on the site was abysmall brining in just over 100 thousand views in a day and a measily 150 in a week. This is abysmall and these numbers are some of the worst on the whole site. And don't come with the bs of "it needs time to gain popularity" because it doesn't. Look at any new serialization. They go straight to the top in views as everybody checks them out and then slowly drop down as readers drop off. Hotaru had a insane drop of and it died because of it. But look at something like Girl Meets Rock, which didn't have such a big drop off. It is at the top of its day and has really good sales aswell.

Hotaru wasn't profitable so it got axed. I get that you are disapointed, but atleast try to use your brain.
