I originally wanted to read the manga, for that I would have to buy all 28 volumes ( which costs a lot of space and money) and I hate reading longer series online. How faithful is this anime adaption? do you think it can replace the manga somehow?

S1 is pretty faithful iirc, S2 varies, Tokyo Revelations is faithful, and Tori no Kago is just a filler side story that has no relevance.

I watched it before reading the manga (actually I think it was my first CLAMP encounter), and really loved it. I've reread and partial rewatched since. I think it's worth just giving it a watch. If you like it, you'll like the manga. If not, depending on what you dislike, the manga might still be worth it. Also the OST is amazing and voice actors are amazing!!

Reading CLAMP is a pretty distinct experience. So even if it were 100% faithful, it still can't really replace it

Haven’t watched the anime but wouldn’t want to waste my time watching animes these days so I’d have rather read the manga regardless. Can’t trust the amount of information they leave out in anime adaptations anyways so I’d recommend reading the manga, the art was amazing.

first season is ok, but second is just garbage.
it's better to read the mangá instead.

so the anime really cant replace the manga, its one of those shows where they made up a lot of original material to make up for the fact they didnt have enough to adapt at the time. even the tokyo revelations ova isnonly about the halfway point of the story, not to mention the manga is directly connected to xxxholic and the two need to be read together to get the whole story.

that being said this was one of my favorite anime when it came out and one of the first to make me want to go out and read the manga to be able to finish the story.

The anime adaptation is slightly "family friendly i would say, it's fine as a complement but the manga has all the action, pacing and emotion the adaptation doesn't and most S2 is plain boring filler. I recommend watching the movie and the ovas, those are worth watching and what TC anime should have been. Also Holic is important to understand TC main plot (the manga is far better for this tho), specially when you reach Tokyo Revelations, at first the story has little to do but in the things they are connected it's better to have both povs.
