If there isn't a season 2, I wouldn't be upset. I was rewatching the anime the other day, and I got to the last episode, and oddly enough, I felt satisfied with the ending. I thought Shin and the major had great character arcs, and the cast left was left to an "open-ended" conclusion (I'm well aware there's more source material that needs to be adapted). I was wondering if anyone felt the same, leave your thoughts in the thread.

I get what you're saying.
Part 2 has an open finale, but it did conclude/fulfill the development of the main cast (on a certain degree at least).
I too want another season so bad, but if this ended here I'd be satisfied anyways.

(I felt pretty much the same with the Bunny Girl Senpai movie: it felt like a finale, but I'm so happy they did more. Just saying)

Both of the comments above are calling season 1 part 2 "Season 2". The OP is saying they are happy with the ending to season 1 part 2. There is no season 2 to this anime.

"Uhm akshually".
Just kidding, you're right. Noted.

I know it's a single season divided in 2 cours/parts.
I'm always so confused when they do that lol

All that world building, slim character development, political drama and introduction of side characters for almost nothing or just one arc?

No that is just wasted potential in my eyes. All the 86 aside from Shinei are extremely forgettable and shallow. They need more screen time and time to develop.

The Story of them just started. More or less. The ending might be satisfying for all the events that happend in Season 1, but overall a Season 2 is needed.

For everyone that doesn't know, some of the 86 team is working on NieR Automata Season 2 (also A-1 Pictures). They worked on the first season as well. So that's probably why we haven't heard anything in a while.

I HIGHLY doubt Aniplex is tossing 86 to the side. It'll come back, just need the staff back.

Well I felt the same way untill i read the source material, it is a good place to end or have break. Since this is where the first story arc of the series ends.

Hopefully more will be adapted, but if not then its fine.

The story is divided into parts (Part 1: Vol. 1-3; Part 2: Vol. 4-6...) and all of them tend to have an "open-ended" conclusion although answering many previous plot points.

So I think it should be normal to feel satisfied at the end of each part. I think that's the way the series was conceived. Every good story should be like this... Or am I wrong?

I mean, in Part 1 Lena and Shin "reunited", in Part 2 they "reconciled"... just to name one.

I personally think that a second season is not necessary but it would be nice to see an ending and a second season for 86

If they won't adapt the entire story I think it was a great place to stop, but I want a continuation since the show is so good. Great story and characters, very interesting themes in general and the exploration of idealism is one of the best and feels very unique even in relation to other mecha shows, a very interesting take on the holocaust which respects the victims and the situation while also having a unique twist that while the themes of ptsd, survivors guilt and so on are a mainstay of mecha it is done very well, and to top it all of the show has one of the best visual direction in anime? I want more please

I agree that the end of season 1 is a satisfying ending and therefore I would not be devastated if we never get a season 2.
However there is still so much the story and world of 86 can potentially offer (I haven't read the LN), like the other countries outside of San Magnolia and the Federation combined with newcharacters, the other 86 and their own character arcs, more interaction and a development of Shin and Lenas relationship, maybe more background information about the Legion and so much more.
That's why i really hope we get a second season.

A-1 pictures is busy these days, even I heard rumours about animating ORV, so 86 next season will have to wait for atleast 3 years or more

I get what you’re saying but I personally want a season 2. I’m an anime only and every time I’ve watched this season (both parts) I can’t set it down (metaphorically). Would be very grateful for another season.

If possible I want manga , no season 2 is fine if they draw all the LNs coz for me reading LNs is hard except for short ones, the only one LN I can still remember that I read fully was I want to eat your pancreas.

I definitely want a 2nd season, hands down. I won't die over a 2nd season not being made as they did make the ending of pt 2 wholesome, but I was still not satisfied. There is still more to be answered and uncovered. I've only seen the anime and it was just so good, easily a new favorite. I've watched a lot of anime and this one was definitely a hidden gem that I am thankful to have come across. I read in comments on YouTube about something special happening between a certain set of characters and I absolutely must see that animated!✨ I was also thankful of how a lot of the deaths happen. There was never enough to get too attached to the characters before they died, so instead of balling, it was just a few tears that were shed, if any. The only one that really got me was Shin's brother and Fredericka's Knight, but they had much more backstory given so that's to be expected. I've never seen an anime quite like this one, and I wouldn't be satisfied without a bit more. There are still things that need to be resolved and I will do my best to patiently await a second season (hopefully they'll make one).

Based on the next book I'm not sure it works as well. Season 2 covered books 2 and 3. Book 4 would be fun because it's 90% battle. book 5 goes even further into the uigh concept Sci fi and wasn't as good as the earlier 4 books.

I think if you wanna follow the story you're better off reading the light novel instead. Light novel adaptations tend to get only worse with the following seasons, which makes sense because they know they won't attract any new audience

The first season of 86 was beautiful because of the story, the animation, and especially the OSTs, which literally made many fans go crazy and cry. Avid, The Answer, kyoukaisen, Lilas, etc. etc. are all very beautiful. It would be nice to have a second season and be able to relive the same feelings.

Just because it had a perfect ending does not mean that people don’t want to see more of the story. It only improves as it continues past the first three LN volumes and right after where the anime ended, there are two major arcs that occur that being
and many people including myself want to see the continuation of the narrative and these arcs in anime-form.

Nah, I need season 2. Even though I was quite satisfied when part 2 of season 1 ended, I still need a continuation, as 86 is one of my most favourite shows, and I want a complete, proper conclusion to the story and characters.

I've just finished watching 86 Part 2 and I can say that I feel the same. I even said to myself that I don't mind if this is the ending. It feels so open-ended that wants you to give it your own scenario after the ending. However, season 2 is still welcome maybe I'm just afraid to see what happens next and don't want to see their happy reunion fall apart.
