displeased? if not for the voices, this could have been lifted right out of the adaptation.

@Animaticide
The fan animation moves at breakneck speed (it's amost Teekyu-level fast) compared to the anime and has almost zero breaks in-between the characters' lines.
Restoring all the Neko Team gags that were thrown of the window by the anime director also helped upping the quality of the fan animation.

So, like it's just a 'lost chapters' kind of thing in the typical 'web-only extra content' format. I mean, taking a different approach doesn't automatically signal displeasure to me but whatever.

Anyways, I was wondering why there were cats in the intro that we never got to see. I do hope the show gets a continuation eventually cause that was one my favorites last season.

Well no, the original fans are actually displeased with the anime adaptation.
What they didn't like? The altered and slowed down tempo, a supposdly huge amount of chapters and jokes discarded in favor of the director's personal anime original content and even though this is purely meta, the director flaming the shit out of everyone that dared criticize his work (he even suggested that if people kept criticizing him, he'd commit suicide like Ashihara Hinako, and people, especially the people above him, didn't take that kindly).

That's odd, how can you interpret tempo from a non-temporal medium to a temporal one? Seems like a personal interpretation issue TBH. I still think it is a jump in logic to immediately assume that the author of this web short made it that way on those grounds without them explicitly stating it, but who cares. Really, who cares.

The other arguments, I can see, tho. That director sounds insufferable, but I didn't know nor care about his rants and I still don't. The show was very enjoyable regardless of its source-faithfulness and the people behind it.

That's all I have to say. Thanks for sharing the video my dude.

The original work is a fast paced gag comedy manga with eight pages long chapters and no breaks, and as you can see in the fan animation, which is straight up the comic in animated format, none of the additions brought by the anime director (I'm talking about stuff like Akemi preparing drinks, character slowly moving around and saying their lines etc.) are featured in the fanwork.
And that's what apparently what the original fans wanted: the work in its basic form animated with no extra goods, possibly animated as a short-length series.

As for me, I didn't really have any problem with the TV anime aside for the slow tempo that plagued many episodes (and I'm not even comparing it to the original work) so I more or less had a good time watching the entire series, but I can absolutely sympathize with all the fans that thought it was a letdown and are instead celebrating the work of a passionate fan.

That is fair, those fans are within their right. I think a format like the one you described would be better suited for a web-only, short-form release like that fan-made video so I am personally glad they didn't go with that route in the adaptation.

Glad to find the other one person who watched this!

I get that fans were expecting something but got something else so they were dissapointed, but I'm gonna defend the anime director here. If this anime was directed with a pace as fast as this fan animation, each episode would basically feel like a tiktokok compilation with many short skits back to back. I think the director took a decision benefiting a show with half an hour long episodes. Now yeah there are some scenes which drag, but you gotta fill that 23 min runtime. It probably would have been better to have slightly faster pace with one more skit per episode, but if this fan animation is what it was "supposed to be like", then the anime should have been shorts aired on youtube.

Also another topic, did people really think that they could have aired the jokes of this skit as is on tv, with vulgar jokes on an ip they don't own? Peak twitter moment. If only the director didn't lose the moral high ground with his own twitter moment 😭

@FiendishChan
But fans didn't want a full-fledged TV series with half an hour episodes, they wanted a Teekyu-like short series, and that's the thing.
I'm not sure I understand your second point, especially given the fact the the TV series animated its own fair share of vulagr jokes.

It's so weird seeing fans getting upset over getting a full fledged tv series, but I get it I guess. But I bet no one protested when this anime was announced.

The thing is even if you change the names and appearance of an IP (ninja turtles in this case) it's still obvious what it parodies. I bet they didn't want to piss off Nickelodeon so that they don't get dragged into a lawsuit even if they are in the clear

What? The announcement of Snack Basue being a full-fledged TV series came way after they revealed they would animate it.
And you completely misunderstood the main Neko Team joke: in the original the cats aren't named after the TMNT, they're named after hotshot anime directors (Tomino, Hayao, Anno and Shikai) while in the TV series the anime director went with generic color names.
