Despite his inherent awkwardness and vices, he is very capable and proactive young man who is also quite empathetic and caring. I think many viewers could learn a thing or two from him.

Nah bro is acc delusional. He’s a ‘great guy’ because he folds like a sharp razor blade slicing into someone. He’s a hardcore simp who does anything for a women with absolutely no redeeming qualities and goes through the same character loops. I had a thought tbh rent a girlfriend likes putting characters into different locations but has all of them repeat the same loops over and over. Kazuya is just scum man I want what you’re on

I agree that kazuya is an actually good guy bc he is a more or less functioning person of society who has a drive for something, which is more than a lot of people these days.

(Sorry for the rant)

I mean, I don’t know if I’d say he’s necessarily a “good guy,” but he’s also not a bad guy, either. And definitely not “scum,” as one user put it.

He’s hard working, competent in anything unrelated to romance, caring, and has good intentions. But he’s also a porn-addicted simp with extremely low self-esteem. On paper, he’s a surprisingly realistic character, though he is of course over-exaggerated for the sake of comedy and ✨drama✨

First two seasons were about how his issues caused him to make his life unnecessarily complicated. He’s always been self aware of his flaws, but lacked the willpower to actively fix them. Third season was finally the first step towards bettering himself, or as I like to call it “The Budding of Kazuya’s First Testicle.”

From an anime only’s perspective, if the story goes in the direction that it should, there’d be a season and a movie, or at most, two season’s worth of content left to let Kazuya grow as character, fix all of the unnecessary drama, and become a man capable of treating Chizuru right. Unfortunately, I’ve heard that the manga doesn’t go in that direction and instead milks the series to death, so I’m hoping the anime makes some tweaks and overhauls to the story, because it’s otherwise been a very good show so far.

No, he is not. There is no way his advanced can be interpreted as anything else than him just trying to get in Chuzuru's panties. And what makes it worse is that author seems to be geniuenly aware of that.

The reason for that being the only possible interpretation is simple. There is no way Kazuya can in any way relate to Chizuru, so they have absolutely nothing in common. They never in any way shared any plight, problem or struggles. There is no bridge or understanding between them. Which is perfectly reflected by the fact, that their relationship did not developed at all, and still three seasons in, the only way Kazuya can associate with her is by renting and paying her. On top of that, as Kazuya states it himself, he did not had it tough in life, so that puts another barrier.
So, if Kazuya cannot possibly relate or geniuenly understand and feel for Chuzuru's struggles and as we all know there is no such thing as completely selfless help, so Kazuya must expect some sort of benefit, even if it is just self gratification, him trying to get on Chuzuru's good side can be interpreted as only one thing.
Naturally, I am completely wrong, because author will say different thing, but this series is known for it's garbage writing for a reason.

I’m just gonna ignore all the bait, yea he is a pretty good dude. He’s very desperate, but he does care, and he tries his best to make Chizuru happy, and I think it would be disingenuous to pretend all of that is just because he’s down bad. I think the scenes showing Chizuru’s father and mother really just mimic the same dynamic that you see in Chizuru and Kazuya.

Are you anime only? We went through that too.

I started reading this manga after the anime S1, out of spite alone and I was made a fool of for believing. The thing is, if you went with anime story so far, of course you'd believe all that you're saying: Kazuya's development during the movie arc was great. He goes through a massive shift in attitude and capability that would serve him dearly in life even if he got perma-rejected by that main girl. All his effort would make it believable that he could gain at least some endearment from Chizuru and have the relationship build from there. But from then on it becomes a cycle of repeated looping on all character's behalf that becomes exhausting after a while. It's one thing to state (accurately) that change happens in little steps, but instead we only get a character being forced into the same cycle for no other reason than to pad out the story, as if none of that progression ever happened. That's gotta be incredibly frustrating for some viewers, especially when the MC hits too close to home. Instead of growing tired of the story being milked indefinitely, a lot of people project their self-hatred unto Kazuya because media literacy is a lost art.

In such cases, I'd rather watch cringe-fests like Watamote where the story makes no pretenses that there might be any hope for the MC because at least shows like that are honest about it and don't dangle any prospect of progression.

"Welcome to the NHK" had a main MC with more or less the same scummy tendencies and flaws, and yet somehow they managed to make that guy more tolerable. There's re:Zero too, and that one even deals with regressions and development loops (quite literally) that circles around the same themes, and even they somehow managed to make the MC tolerable; continuous (but understandable) mental breakdowns and all.

Accurate portrayals of mental illness are always desirable if that's gonna be the theme to be tackled by the story, but on the other hand, stories are not real life. Even documentaries are structured and manipulated so as to portray the sensation of an eventual conclusion being there. RaG just the same story over and over and over and over, and the MC is the easy target to forcefully make to take the fall for it.

I don't think he is a a great guy, but he is a decent character in a story written unfavorably against him. I don't really mind his character flaws because I don't project into the media that I watch, but I do wish the author gave him some slack so there story could go somewhere.

I cannot blame Kazuya for his current character. I mean the stupid author ruined his character development. NO WONDER toxic audiences hate and always Kazuya, not the author!

Also, what I don't understand is Mami is more popular Chizuru (according to number of favorites in MyAnimeList here). But Mami is the one who broke up with Kazuya IN THE FIRST PLACE WITHOUT TELLING HIM THE REASON. More likely Mami is the antagonist for me. That's why I don't like Mami since Chapter 1 (Season 1 Episode 1).

Mami fans, I know you're gonna tell me why she's more popular than Chizuru now, JUST BECAUSE of her character development.

Anyway, the real authors don't ruin MC's charcter development. But the author of RAG is abusive for ruining MC like Kazuya and making toxic fans blame and hate Kazuya.

I had said this before and I will say it again: Don't blame the MC (like Kazuya), but blame the author!

He is a fictional character, so he can't be great. 😆
Man, the topics today are so... 😏

Kazuya = Author. 🥲
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

Male viewers that don’t like Kazuya are insecure because they see themselves in him, they see him as the negative things about themselves but he is actually just a genuine person, he doesn’t pretend to be anything he’s not. See also: “Alpha” man-children. It’s always those guys you see hating Kazuya, and usually they LIKE RUKA AND MAMI which is equally crazy LOL

I'm sorry but kazuya is my least favorite character in any anime. he has no development, he never stops being a simp, ever. why would you put out 3 seasons of a show where the main character doesn't develop at all. yes he does nice things toward the end, but it wasn't like he wouldn't have done those things since episode 1, cause he's a nice guy. just because a character is "nice" doesn't not make me want to throw him in front of a fucking train when I see him be in the same situation 50 times and still acts like a boiled egg brain simp loser when that time arises again. Kaz -100/10. other characters are pretty cool tho :)
