In the year of our Lord 2024 we see many anime distributors cashing in on the next anime hype and trends and crunchyroll, despite its many controversial translation efforts, are one of the few distributors who actually cares enough about anime watchers to put typesetting on their animes whilst other popular streaming services... on the technological advancement of 5G internet are stuck in closed captioning.

I just had a sudden realization watching both Yubisaki to Renren and Komi Can't Communicate (and Dungeon Meshi). Netflix in their infinite wisdom decided to really hone in on this anime thing and lock exclusive, TEXT heavy animes on their very shortsighted Closed Captions. For those who don't know Komi Can't Communicate has a silent FMC which the series relied on manga text boxes and notepad to define her actions and speech... in Japanese... almost always simultaneously. leading netflix's subs to only translate dialogue and what is necessary. While Crunchyroll, has proven it can be done both AND on multiple languages. WHICH I'M GRATEFUL THAT THIS SERIES HAS ONE BECAUSE YUKI IS SUCH A BLESSING TO MY WEEKENDS AND THE TEXT MESSAGES ARE SO CUTE AND THE NOTEBOOK WAS TYPESETTED SO MANY TIMES. at least Disney+ has karaoke subs

I'm still salty about this and noone seems to care enough so this is probably just a useless vent. But competition for these type of practices is so scarce, fansubbers are fucking dead. if crunchyroll, decided to get bankrupt and bought by netflix for some reason, I'm just gonna bank on my duolingo streak making me immune to these types of changes.

Don’t get me started on Netflix’s Komi Can’t Communicate adaption. I have watched like 2 or 3 episodes BECAUSE I COULD’T STAND IT. Like. Half of the jokes are in text and if there is ANY spoken dialogue at the same time it doesn’t get translated! Also. The chalkboard scene. A very pivotal scene in the very beginning of this story AND THEY ONLY TRANSLATE THE WORDS AT THE VERY END! I was hoping that the dub would translate everything. But no. I think you have even less translated with the dub. Ugh. Just. Translate every single text on the screen please. I don’t care if I have to pause to read it. Just give me access. Also. I am def sad that the Komi anime is basically unwatchable for me. I wanted to watch it. I enjoy the manga so much. But no. It’s just so bad.

@justhuman22 first 7 eps was fansubbed very passionately by a group called NovaWorks. then they decided it was too much and dropped it completely.
