Except he [i[didn't[/i] leave Yuna in the middle of nowhere. He left her with Sae who he knew would see she was taken care of.

As for why he didn't return to the village with Yuna, you're effectively arguing that he return to the village with the entire wolf pack that is feared by many for justified reasons, but he's going to be feared now that he is the next king.

I say next king, because he is in fact the Dear King, not the Dog King, as the movie makes it clear that he holds a connection with all life, not just the wolf pack that he inherited from the Dog King, but he made the choice to become the Dear King instead of the Dog King, to bring in a new era between the two people and take things in a different direction than what the Dog King wanted.
