Am I tripping or do they literally use some sort of AI for this anime? It's not the whole thing for sure, but when there is some sort of action, it seems unnaturally smooth. I could not really finish the first episode because of it. It is very jarring. Anime is supposed to be around 24 frames per second so how is it at some parts, it feels like it has way more than that? SPOILERS FOR THE FIRST 11 MINUTES OF THE FIRST EPISODE.

I know this is a very outrageous claim to make, but I'm like 90 percent sure there is some sort of AI animation in play. There needs to be a talk about this because, in my opinion, AI can ruin the industry, and make studios lazy.

The show has been in production for 6-7+ years. The animation studio was made to animate this show.

It's that smooth because it has been worked on for that long. It did not have a regular production schedule.

there was a controversy around its use of heavy computer effects that destroys the sakuga of animators https://gamerant.com/pluto-netflix-behind-the-scenes-feature-controversy/

probably shinya ohira's animation you're talking about. he is an industry veteran, his work is also in the trailer of the boy and the heron (the scene with fire). he doesn't use any AI. at this point, AI has only been used for backgrounds in a highly controversial short animation by WIT studio. but so far that's it (of the officially released anime)

As Spoopy69 already pointed out, the scene was animated by Shinya Ohira. They also didn’t use any AI or whatever. He is just capable of animating this fluid type of movement.
And it isn’t even animated on 24fps or beyond. In fact, most of the sequence is animated on 12fps AKA on seconds (new drawing for every second frame)

As for the gun scene, I think it was just some really wierd compositing than anything else. You can still see that other parts of his body are normal and aren’t blurred the same way. Maybe an attempt at making the transformation feel more out of this world or something.

The very first scene in episode 7 undeniably used generative AI. I wouldn't be surprised if it was used in other places as well if they have already sunk this low to use it at all. Very frustrating, I regret wasting my time on this drivel.
