1. What was Aoba's goal in the first place? Not even sure what he accomplished.
2. Who told Takashi about the Saika stuff and how did he even get the power to manipulate Saika zombies? Why was he even the final boss?
3. What is the deal with Sharaku and why does she help Izaya? It was stated she doesn't trust him but I see no benefits to her to ally with him.
4. What about Kine? Why did he ally with Izaya and then save him at the end?
5. What was the point of the Dragon Zombie Biker Gang?

Most of season two was messy ngl, though I’m pretty sure extra info is in the mangas/light novels

The only questions I can answer are the ones about Aoba and Mikage. For Aoba, I’m pretty sure he just wanted a leader for the Blue Squares since Izumii left. He has this whole metaphor about being sharks and needing a place to swim and all. But that’s my take ig.

As for Mikage, based on my memory she also went to the same high school as Izaya and grew to have a crush on him. But Izaya treated her like dirt and then something happened that forced her to drop out. She even has a line that compares Izaya to a virus or a parasite or something around those lines. (My source is the Durarara wiki, there’s a bunch of crap on there)

Anyway, take this info as you will. Weird to see this anime get a discussion lmao.

Just finished it yesterday. I agree, the last two cours were extremely messy. I wonder if the manga offers any explanation?

This may just be me, but when watching x2 this was what I understood:

1. Aoba just wanted a new leader for the Blue Squares. He wanted it restored to how it was before and just thought Mikado was the perfect fit.

2. He wasn't really the final boss. That was always either Nebula or Izaya. The two kind of flipped back and forth as "main antagonist". As for how he got the power, it's not explicitly said, but if you remember ,during the Saika arc after Anri had cut Haruka, Takashi picked up her version of Saira. Unless I missed something, pretty sure he kept it. As for how he found out about it, he literally saw it with his own two eyes that same night.

3. I'm actually not sure. I think it's implied the two used to date, but eh...

4. Kine is a retired detective. Ge's actually the guy who kind of "raised" Izaya and taught him the tools of the trade to become an info broker. I believe he also has strong ties with the Awakusu, so that's how Izaya got into dealings with them.

5. The dragon zombies were just a bang Izaya brought in to help with "Izaya things"

1. Aoba was the original leader Blue Squares, then was Izumi. Aoba wanted restores the BS into their old glory, so pickes up Mikado as new leader. Also with this Aoba accomplished some revenge with Izumi for ruin his band.

2. Takashi was one of sons of Saika, I think the novel mention he did escape her zombie trance with the power lovehimself (?) the same way Shinra escape with his love for Celty.

3. Mikage was an Izaya's girlfriend from the high school. She knew how is him, but her crush was stronger then(?), now she said already got over him, but still keeps an eye on him to watch him.

4. Kine was a ex member Awakusu, he recruit Izaya when high schooler, in a some way he have a sense duty to stay close and watch him.

5. Dragon Zombie are a motobicle band Izaya paid for act like his bodyguards while their leader is in other country. Is mention in the novels.
