Why does Mahiru elbow Ryuu in episode 1 / chapter 1?

I don't see any explanation for the remainder of the series that I've read so far. (I read up to near the end of after world.)

Here's what happened:


  1. reito tells elisa & ryuu that reito & elisa had a fight.
  2. ryuu for some reason says to mahiru 'lucky for you mahiru.'
  3. and then mahiru hits ryuu just like another imouto raiha uesugi does to another onii-chan fuutarou uesugi in the quintessential quintuplets episode 1 / chapter 1. (so i guess it's a common trope in harem if the male protagonist has an imouto? idk)


Was Ryuu joking that Mahiru is either gay for Elisa or has a brocon for Rei or Ryuu?

Pretty sure it's because Elisa has a crush on her brother, or at least Ryuu thinks she has.

Raiha hits Fuutarou onii-chan. Raiha is imouto of a male protagonist Fuutarou in a harem anime.
Mahiru hits Ryuu onii-chan. Mahiru is imouto of a male protagonist Reito in a harem anime.

So idk maybe it's a common trope?

Right uhuh thanks I guess. But then it's common but ok why in the WEH case? Was Ryuu joking that Mahiru is either gay for Elisa or has a brocon for Rei or Ryuu? In the TQQ case, it's that Fuutarou was being sarcastic to Itsuki.
