Wow! No discussion on this???
I have to say for Horikoshi's first one shot, this really showed a ton of promise, even in his college years, a 47 paged feature is not an easy feat. You can see a lot of his influences pretty straight up in this too. Naruto, Dragon Ball, and One Piece. The gang is all here, especially in the comedy and main back drop of the story.
Tenko and Hana, which Hori used in other series definetly have a very Bulma and Goku relationship to them but I really enjoy how their points of view eventually allign together and it wasn't just Tenko's backstory that pulled the sympathy card here for Hana to understand Tenko and her own warrior dream. Demon Warrior Aizawa over here, this man can't help but put a guy like this in every series he draws and I am here for it
And reading this Hana with OumaZoo Hana, really makes me hope he will write a manga with a female protagonist at some point.
Obviously since this was so early on, the art is very unpolished. Especially with face shape and big action panels. However so much expression and heart is given focus in many of the scenes that the growth of these that would come in his proceeding series really light me up in a special kind of way.
Small side note, Hori's early mascot being a little Taiko drum at this stage and evolving into his final form of his little hand mascot is just cute.
I'll give some general thoughts on how this ties with BNHA under the spoiler tag, most of this has already been shown via the anime but I have manga pictures shown below:
Anyways love you sensei. Your work resonates with me in all your universes. |
