I thought it would be yuribait but after finishing the show it definitely isn't. It's clear Suletta has feelings for Miorine, and that Miorine's ones are developping as well. It was made pretty much obvious in both episodes 10 and 11. |

I'd rather have a developed relationship, if they just got together in the first cour and had no development it wouldn't be interesting at all. The amount of stupidity when it comes to this subject here on the WFM sub is astounding, like trying to insist it's obviously baiting because she blushed when a boy talked to her or they haven't kissed by the third episode, etc. and that's not even getting into ignoring all the Utena symbolism, and what it means that the director literally wrote Utena's LN. “Queerbaiting” is a term used by people who don’t know much about film history… for years queer people couldn’t be shown in media so creators had to use queer subtext that would fly under the radars of censors, but queer people would still be able to pick up on. When people use queer subtext today, it is often branded as queerbaiting because some people expect to be told everything about characters instead of interacting and thinking about the media they watch… Hell, sometimes if characters are obviously queer and subtext isn’t used, people expect them to be super direct about it! Suletta and Miorine shouldn’t have to turn and look straight at the viewers and say “We are gay” for people to accept that they’re gay and that the show isn’t queerbaiting… She is literally called her fiancé! It doesn’t get more obviously LGBTQ+ than that! |

Everything said here is just simply wrong. The show has some slice of life elements sure, but almost every episode also contained action politics and other normal gundam elements. I could literally go episode by episode and way less than half would be considered slice of life and I know because I love slice of life. There was also tons of foreshadowing and build up just maybe not what you wanted. We got tons of foreshadowing for who Sulletas mom is, whether or not Sulleta was a clone or not. We also got plenty of build up which had to do with character relationships. Such as Sulleta and Miorine, Sulleta and her Mom, Guel and Sulleta's relationship also had some interesting developments and Guel who looked sexist to start (which everyone complained about) wasn't actually sexist and now actually likes her. We had the entire thing with Elan and Sulleta's fight relating to her being a clone or something similar. We have had tons of different elements relating to race about Earthians and Spacians which builds up who you want to root for in the end. I haven't seen 00 trailblazeer but that isn't what happened either. What villains just randomly showed up? You mean the ones from earth? They might be last minute additions but they were not random. We have seen Nika talking to Shaddiq multiple times before it showcasing suspicions in her actions and his which led up to them calling people from earth. They are less Villains and more hired assassins. It isn't like they went there on their own with no help. This is from both Shaddiq and Nika both characters we are well aware of from start to finish. One being a villain character Shaddiq and one we don't know whos side she is really on who is Nika. Not to mention characters like Sulleta's mom who could also as very well be a villain. The show is great and not making things black and white though. The character development of Sulleta was actually fantastic. If you look at her and her stuttering you can actually see that certain characters she is more comfortable around or less comfortable around. Episode 11 even covers how she was feeling the entire season and how she puts on a front. But one little thing broke that front and she felt useless and pointless. Just because she wasn't facing hardships in the battles didn't mean she wasn't facing them with her anxiety. Which might I add is great because episode 12 right after her mom convinces her about the murder she stops stuttering even right after murding someone. She does it all with a happy face which showcases her mothers manipulation or even mind control suggestion. But to say she wasn't facing hardships because she was constantly stuttering makes no sense. The stuttering was part of her hardships and saying that shows a lack of understanding of her character. Tokyo Revengers has way more users and the first season is rated higher than Tenten. The second season is lower by like .4. The only thing Tenten has over it is a .4 score which is barely anything. I can't say much though since I dropped Revengers in season 1 since I thought it wasn't very good. People can smell the bs. Now Tenten Kakumei, a show nobody is watching that has no hype or prior fanbase is getting a higher score and clout than Tokyo revengers. wtf And you are bestowing us with the brief history of the Gundam communities on other platforms for what reason? To prove to us that the score algorithms and trends on MAL are not a clear representation of what a good show is? You need to do some "time out" from social media. You just unbottled all of this out of frustration and anger... it isn't good for your mental health, why do you get so worked up? You talk about longtime fans. I doubt that most of the OGs care at all, we are old enough to have kids. Why don't you let them talk for themselves? They are more than capable of doing that. Let's take a step back and look at the scores for some of the Gundam shows. Mobile Suit Gundam - 7.76 Ranked #1002 Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam - 7.89 Ranked #749 Why do these "Masterpieces" have such a low score? Well is quite simple. These are very old shows. older than most MAL users. Unless you grew up with it, there's a low probability that you will come across it (unless you actively search for mecha shows). and if you do there are 50/50 chances that the story is not to your liking. Combine that with the animation, and I can already see about 50% of the community dropping this. Mobile Suit Gundam the 08 MS team - 8.01 Ranked #571 Now, this is still an oldy but it is closer to the early 2000s anime wave. So it is a bit more noob friendly, you can watch it without knowing all the lore as well. Pretty friendly for new mecha lovers (at least back in the days...). Mobile Suit Gundam SEED - 7.75 Ranked #1034 Mobile Suit Gundam 00 - 8.11 Ranked #443 Ah yes, these are like the Naruto/Bleach of the Gundam. Nothing else to add, people will either love them or hate them. Then you have stuff like Mobile Suit Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans - 8.04 Ranked #526 Just the new Anime generation. I don't hear people complaining about it. Mecha is a solid genre but it still is a niche. after all, it is not for everyone. Mobile Suit Gundam The Witch from Mercury - 7.95 Ranked#642 If you ask me the show was ok, not bad by any means, but not a masterpiece either. It is a nice show, very welcomed as a winter show. So it is reasonable to believe that it will score higher than the OGs but lower than the newer good ones. If you want to talk about Gundam lore, The Witch from Mercury is in its own timeline AS exactly because nobody wanted to overly complicate the already messy Gundam lore. Sure you start to see some mainstream trends used in the show, but you can see similar trends in the other Gundams too. I watched Witch from Mercury thinking it was a Gundam show, and it delivered on that. Sure it wasn't the best or the most engaging one, but it still is enjoyable. I appreciate the attention to detail and the effort to create a good world and characters. Sure many plot points fall short of questionable, but like I said in a previous post. Everyone is confused and everyone just rolls with it. So I really don't understand why you are so angry about it... It has nothing to do with romance. It really sounds like you are genuinely pissed that this isn't another One Year War/War vs Zeon type of Gundam... Like Calal said, stop generalizing Gundam fans. This has nothing to do with Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, or what's going on in the Gundam community... My only question remains, why do you watch Gundam for the romance? Most of the Gundam Romance subplots are disappointing. This never was a strong aspect of the title. |

I think that they very much acknowledged that they wanted the relationship to be more than a romance, but sure let's just call anything with buildup bait, personally think that making it straight would just be spitting in the face of the Utena references but sure this is "Gundam", the revolution stopped in it's tracks. I guess Amuro and Char is already gay enough. I would argue that Gundam as a whole is inherently homoerotic. Not to mention the canonically gay characters like Yamagi Gilmerton from IBO and Rhineford Guin sard from Turn A Gundam or what happens at the ending of IBO. So I don't really know what these "real" Gundam fans are even mad about. for the people mad that "it's catering to a different demographic", I would argue that the plot of the original Gundam is more reminiscent of the shoujo series of it's time, although I don't know why manga demographics matter with television original anime. Bandai can't always sell to the same Peter Pans, although they adamantly refuse to abandon them. The new UC entries are really cool, why would it even matter if someone didn't like the AU's, And even then 00 and Seed still live. Like they can't just keep having one year wars. Somebody said that After War X had the strongest romance subplot, but I disagree, G Gundam. If anyone cares Gundam Seed would have the worst in my opinion. To go into further detail I think that Suletta's and Miorine's relationship was quite well developed during this series, and I do think that it was leaning into something romantic, but I guess friends want to stay by each others side forever. I also would have had no problem with the series being straight if any of those possible relationships wouldn't be obnoxious. If anyone is saying that this series and the relationship between Suletta and Miorine is spitting in the face of "real Gundam" I'd question what they thought Gundam was even about. And for anyone questioning the importance of romance in Gundam, I'd like to agree that the politics are also important in a Gundam entry, as they are here. However I would like to further emphasize the importance of human connection and relationships in Gundam. In the original Gundam I personally wouldn't really describe any of the relationships between newtypes as anything inherently solely romantic, there was more nuance to it. I think on a personal level that the relationships between the characters are one of the most interesting part of the original Gundam timeline and most other entries. Edit* to make a further addition, which might be off topic. I don't really know why male characters being the "badguys" is suddenly an issue when that's the case with most Gundam antagonists, all this complaining about the series having a female lead seems, like halfhearted complaints about not being able to self-insert. Guel is a cool character as he is, don't really know why anyone would complain that there are no good male characters. A lot of the critique that the series has received have been kind of absurd anyway, I guess the queerbait/yuribait complaint is just the tip of the iceberg |

What is so great about this show that a lot of modern Gundam have been forgetting is character development before everything goes to shit. Episode 12 is so tense because there are stakes for the characters. a lot of gundam fans despise this show more than anything else in history for the franchise. It pretty much made the mecha fandom it into a yuri fandom, and now all criticism on g-witch on gundam forums is being met with bans. goes to show how toxic npcs are since they are hating on ever non yuri show now. G-witch is like the worst thing to happen to the franchise. It is equivalent of turning something like AOT into Yaoi And stop generalizing Gundam fans it makes them look bad. G-witch was like the first show to actually unite the entire /m/ against a gundam show for the first time. And /m/ has shat on so many aus like all the time from seed, ibo, wing, 00 etc. Then /u/ came along, and then all the g-witch hate threads got banned. Which is funny since Morosawa Death celebration threads are allowed, but hating on a yuri is considered TOXIC and has to be banned. wtf This show was practically a sol and only made things serious in like the last episode. But since it wasted so much time in first 11 episodes, really no foreshadowing and build up. Episode 12 was basically 00 Trailblazeer all over again. Villains randomly come up, people yell scream and kill each other, they win. The end. The guys were practically jokes, and made to look like creeps. Character development kind of sucked since Mercury never looked like she was facing hardships since she was constantly stuttering. I mean just look at the gundam fandom now. It is a joke of it once was. A mecha show now having a bunch of yuri ships. I apologize if this was your first gundam or like it. But so many longtime fans just look at this show with disgust. No coincidence that every new show, especially if it is seen as a "harem" and even more if it is an "ecchi", is getting hate but the yuris are now declared the AOTY. Like Tenten Kakumei. People can smell the bs. Now Tenten Kakumei, a show nobody is watching that has no hype or prior fanbase is getting a higher score and clout than Tokyo revengers. wtf "First of the gundam fandom has always been toxic with au bashing a thing. But the problem isn't the gundam fandom. The problem is /u/ and them effectively hijacking gundam fan pages just like how they tried to do it with mha, and infected mal, r/anime, twitter, facebook. " I don't even know what this is trying to say. Are you talking about reddit stuff or forums of MAL or just in general. Because forums on anything are toxic, but I don't think my thread was. It was just me being confused at people bashing for Yuri bait which I don't think the show is doing. Eitherway all fandoms are Toxic and it isn't an excuse to dislike a show because you dislike the Yuri fandom. Or whatever /u/ is. "G-witch was like the first show to actually unite the entire /m/ against a gundam show for the first time. And /m/ has shat on so many aus like all the time from seed, ibo, wing, 00 etc. Then /u/ came along, and then all the g-witch hate threads got banned." This is more just random reddit stuff that has nothing to actually do with the show G-witch. These shouldn't even be in conversation. Either way if the G-Witch hate threads are being removed it is probably because so many people these days are just trolling anyway, but it still has nothing to do with whether the show is good or not. It seems you just dislike the Yuri community and are taking it out on this show for no reason and ignoring what it actually does. "This show was practically a sol and only made things serious in like the last episode. But since it wasted so much time in first 11 episodes, really no foreshadowing and build up. Episode 12 was basically 00 Trailblazeer all over again. Villains randomly come up, people yell scream and kill each other, they win. The end. The guys were practically jokes, and made to look like creeps. Character development kind of sucked since Mercury never looked like she was facing hardships since she was constantly stuttering." Everything said here is just simply wrong. "I mean just look at the gundam fandom now. It is a joke of it once was. A mecha show now having a bunch of yuri ships. I apologize if this was your first gundam or like it. But so many longtime fans just look at this show with disgust. Now Tenten Kakumei, a show nobody is watching that has no hype or prior fanbase is getting a higher score and clout than Tokyo revengers. wtf" Most of this has no coleration with G-Witch and most of it is wrong anyway. I have tried plenty of Gundams in the past I just normally drop them due to the charaterization being quite lacking as a lot of what I have tried is focused on just flashly fights. Also where is the bunch of Yuri ships? We only have one with Sulleta and Miorine. At least ones that were developed. Other ships would just be a fanbase thing and again that says nothing whether the show is good or bad. Tenten Kakumei getting more clout than Revengers is just plain wrong. Tokyo Revengers has way more users and the first season is rated higher than Tenten. The second season is lower by like .4. The only thing Tenten has over it is a .4 score which is barely anything. I can't say much though since I dropped Revengers in season 1 since I thought it wasn't very good. Either way after reading and responding to literally almost everything I think you just have an extreme bias against the Yuri fandom which I don't think should have effected how you viewed this show. It isn't fair to judge a fandom for a show as all fandoms are cancer. Tokyo revengers is like the top selling manga in Japan and has far more viewership and better plot lines. Yet that new yuri garbage which no one is watching and had no prior hype or fanbase is ranked higher than it. |

Something that everyone is forgetting is how arguments of queerbaiting are misapplying two norms. Firstly, they're misapplying the standards of anime whose primary genre is romance to an anime that has romance but potentially isn't even in the romance genre. I would argue that broadly the yuri genre is mostly focused on romcoms and slice of life, which don't require expensive budgets. Secondly, there's the fact that from what I understand, Japanese romantic standards are more reserved. Romance anime might be a little closer to western standards due to the fact that they're the romance genre, which are intentionally somewhat "over-the-top". This is the case even in western romance media. How many successful "grand gestures" do you see in real life? By this same standard, Kaworu from Evangelion is an example of bait because the entirety of the romance is based on one sentence. We're also talking about girls with a screwed up upbringing. Even if we take it as a foregone conclusion that G-Witch is bait, it's still positively revolutionary that as big a franchise and institution of Gundam would include something like this. I'd be hard-pressed to name another example of something similar in Japan. Maybe the Gatchaman reboot? But that doesn't even come close. |

"I mean just look at the gundam fandom now. It is a joke of it once was. A mecha show now having a bunch of yuri ships. I apologize if this was your first gundam or like it. But so many longtime fans just look at this show with disgust. No coincidence that every new show, especially if it is seen as a "harem" and even more if it is an "ecchi", is getting hate but the yuris are now declared the AOTY. Like Tenten Kakumei. People can smell the bs. Now Tenten Kakumei, a show nobody is watching that has no hype or prior fanbase is getting a higher score and clout than Tokyo revengers. wtf" Most of this has no coleration with G-Witch and most of it is wrong anyway. Use your brain, jobless npcs have just ruined the score rankings and infected every social media platform. No one can say this show is comparable to thr past gundam shows even ones that ended badly like 00, ibo, destiny. Just look at this show. Looks like /m/ and /u/ have had a bastard. The 80s shows were considered legends. The yuri fandom has always been toxic. They attacked lyco reco for not making chisataki canon. They have attacked mha fand its creators for not making yuri canon. No other fandom can hijack a massive fandom like mha to such a degree. Now they are trashing mha like crazy for retribution against shipping bans. Gundam's fanbase is on fire right now. They once again managed to turn another fandom into a shipping one. Ps. thank you for proving me that Tokyo Revengers is way more popular than that random Yuri show. You literally forgot what you typed to me before. You are delusional and just playing damage control. Similiar to mainstream media. The new fans are a plague to the gundam fandom attacking long time fans for disagreeing with them and labeling them as and ist and a phobe. Then censoring any criticism on the show. G witch to gundam is basically just Ghostbusters 2016 and witcher blood origin. Absolutely disrespect everything they came before. |

I honestly hate the word “queerbait” and any other form of it. Wtf even is it?? And It’s just pointless to accuse someone else’s story of queerbainting. What if the author doesn’t want it to be yuri? What if it’s not a romance centered anime? And really, what’s wrong with some bait? Take It and swim along. It’s just so stupid when people (lgbt people especially) feel as tho they are entitled to representation in an anime that isn’t marketed as a yuri or a romance. Take what you get and right an fanfic, draw some gay art! Nothing is stopping people from engaging in these typical fan activities so why is it necessary that the source material be objectively gay? They are just looking for something to complain about. I love yuri as much as the next guy but I’ve never been angry that a show didn’t turn out yuri. I appreciate the story for what it is and don’t push my agenda on it and complain. |

Kumiveneella said: Homoerotic is pretty different to gay marriage, which is still illegal in many countries, and can face bans, imprisonment. Societal rules change often like how slavery was legal back then but now isn't. LGBT people also face dramatically higher violence rates than regular people, so it is not without consequencs. Japan for the most part isn't that strick since they already opened themselves up to liberalism. But they are cautious on being too open. Yuri and yaoi is not an active representation of real life homesexual relationships. In fact, often the opposite. Real life they are faced with massive prejudice so a movie like brokeback mountain is more accurate.icefirestone23 said: It's really easy to give out made up conspiracy theories.Calal-Chan said: icefirestone23 said: Sorry I even gave you a response. It can't be blamed on a single show. This is an AU and Gundam AU's are supposed to try and do different things. Sorry you didn't enjoy it but clearly quite a few people did. "I mean just look at the gundam fandom now. It is a joke of it once was. A mecha show now having a bunch of yuri ships. I apologize if this was your first gundam or like it. But so many longtime fans just look at this show with disgust. People can smell the bs. Now Tenten Kakumei, a show nobody is watching that has no hype or prior fanbase is getting a higher score and clout than Tokyo revengers. wtf" Most of this has no coleration with G-Witch and most of it is wrong anyway. It would be really nice if you actually elaborated on why you think that the series is "absolutely disrespect everything they came before", all you ever seem to give out is anecdotal fandom stuff. Like even the lesbian relationship isn't anything new nor would it being gay in general if that's what you meant, so I don't really know what it's disrespecting. Turn A Gundam already had a gay character in 1999 and Amuro and Char from the original timeline is meant to be inherently homoerotic as stated by Tomino. Yuri and yaoi is popular but can seen as blasphemous, same as shotacon, lolicon, hentai, polygamy. Gundam is supposed to be realistic as in the real robot. So a better lgbt show should more represent something like brokeback mountain where characters are actually facing consequences for coming out. Real life society tends to be harsh on this, including getting the marriage subsidized. Since same sex relationships don't produce children. So they need to treat the topic of gay marriage more responsibily, and show more consequences rather than make it a typical yuri/yaoi where they get married and live happily ever after. |

Why should the show reflect what is depicted in the real world? In the first episode, Miorine explicitly mention that same-sex relationship is the norm. Just because same-sex relationship is frowned upon by a certain percentage of people in the real world, why should that also be the norm in work of fiction as well? |

Loran even wears a dress and make up in Turn A Gundam, it's an important plot element in Turn A Gundam, what do you think of this, is this a disgrace to the franchise? First you complain about the series selling out but now it should just pander to countries other than Japan just because homosexual marriage is illegal in some countries. I don't quite know what the point of your argument is, are you saying the series should instill your kind of "social values", you know admittedly in most mid in 20th century and older works depicting homosexuality the characters die, and that was considered the redeeming factor of those stories, but in the age where we live in homosexuality is an openly accepted thing in most advanced countries. You think quite literally every character trying to stop the marriage from happening isn't prejudice, and even then Gundam is a science fiction anime they're supposed to live in the future, and in the future of this world homosexuality is a thing that exists, at the least in that part of space. It's science fiction, there are no real robots that work on nuclear reactors, should they not be there. You're blaming them of pandering to "yuri fans" but then say they should be considerate of countries outside of Japan regarding the theme of homosexuality. I wouldn't call the latest episode "happily ever after", even if your point is ridiculous as is. Yes Gundam the franchise that tackles social issues of it's time should just not do that. some people believe that climate change isn't a thing so maybe they should have been considerate of those people while making the original Gundam timeline. I'm starting to wonder if you've even watched anything Gundam. Not to even speak about watching this one, if you weren't too busy making audible voices of pain every time homosexuality was on screen feigned or not. At least try to get the facts right, when you spew your pointless unrelated "political beliefs" on a franchise that's essentially historically leftist "fujobait" (I personally hate all of these x-bait words but this is just for this point) if you were to label it in layman's terms. Sorry if this came off as rude. |

People see things like cute, queer girls and completely expect it to fulfil their own fantasies. I get it, you want to feel like there are other people in the world that feel the same way as you, but that's just not the intention that the show is putting out there. This isn't a slice-of-life romantic drama or anything of the sort, so please don't expect cute girls doing cute things. Even then, I have to say Suletta very obviously does very cute things so that shouldn't even be an issue here. If the issue is that it's only occasional and not the whole thing, then that's even worse in my opinion. It's also not even baiting. They're totally a thing, and if it's not what you imagined why would you look at it so negatively? People are actually crazy. |

Here's a link to the term "yuri" for those who think the genre is simply the female equivalent of yaoi. As a yuri fan myself, I used to think the same thing until I was further educated on the term. Yuri is so much more than just 'girls kissing'. Heck, yuri media was originally created by women, for women, and more often than not, it depicted two ladies sharing a strong emotional or spiritual bond. Unlike yaoi, yuri isn't always sexual or even "romantic" in the traditional sense; it can best be described as a "romantic friendship" of sorts. So the term "yuri" still applies to Suletta and Miorine's growing bond, even if the show doesn't go the romantic route with them. Personally, I wouldn't mind this one bit, though I also wouldn't oppose it either. If they don't, it'd be nice to see two characters of the same sex form a strong platonic bond these days. While that's not necessarily a lost art in this medium, it certainly is in the West, specifically in the States, where had this series been written and produced over here, Suletta and Miorine would've been kissing near the end of episodes 1 or 2. 😂 |
