I noticed today that a few new Types were added to the Anime side.
- CM (Commercial)
- PV ( Promotional Video)
- TV Special

Do we have a chance seeing them beeing added to MAl-Badges sometime in the future?

Hello! I've been using Badges for a long time, so I want to share my thoughts. I hope my ideas will seem interesting and reasonable to the community.

Firstly, achievements by genre:

I like the layout of levels 1 to 6.
1 lvl - 10 titles - 50 points
6 lvl - 100 titles - 1500 points.
I think that's fair.
So why such a biased attitude towards achievements CGDCT, Iyashikei, Mythology? In order to get level 1 of these achievements, fewer titles are required. While for level 6 it is much more than for other genres. For the final level you need to watch almost all the anime from the MAL database. I think they should be put on par with other genres. It is possible to add level 7 with a threshold of 150 titles, but it costs more to gain points for this. For example 2000.

If somewhere levels more than 6 are needed, then these are genres with a large number of titles.

For such genres something like this is just right:
7 lvl - 150 titles - 2000 points.
8 lvl - 200 titles - 3000 points.
9 lvl - 300 titles - 5000 points.
I consider this situation to be balanced.
Also a strange attitude towards the genre Isekai. This genre is not as wide as Harem,Space, School, Romance. So why is it only expanded to level 9? At the same time, the difference between levels 8 and 9 is only 25 titles, but for level 9 a whole 1000 points are added. I think the same thing applies to him as I suggest for other genres: level 7 - 150 titles - 2000 points.
You can also expand the achievement Shounen.

Next, achievements by year:
I believe that there is no need to make such significant achievements for old anime.
197х, 196х should be limited to level 7 with 1500 points for 150 titles
195х, 193х ok
194x 500 points for 32 titles. I don’t understand why they award 1500 points for such a small number of short anime.

As for new anime, the gradation there is also very good from the very beginning.
5 lvl - 50 titles - 1000 points. Why not? It is perfectly!
But I don't think 2019 was anything remarkable. Why are fewer points awarded for 50 titles starting in 2019?
If the community feels that there are too many anime coming out lately (but this started much earlier than 2019), then why not just add further levels of this achievement?
6 lvl - 75 titles - 1250 points
7 lvl - 100 titles - 1500 points
It seems to me that this will be fair, and it can be extended to earlier years, until 2012-2014.

And finally, I want to add that in terms of the number of episodes, everything should also be changed. I see that you are thinking about this. I just want to add from myself: for watching with a large number of episodes it is worth adding more points than for anime with 1-25 episodes. It’s somehow strange to award only 1500 points for 100 anime with 100+ episodes.
All of the above are just my thoughts. I am grateful to those who are working on this project. English is not my native language, so if I wrote some sentence too unclearly, then I apologize.

@SmokyWerewolf
We have everything planned out for the lvl 50 update. I've taken into account the DB, and I've made a giant spreadsheet with every badge sorted out, so it's just a matter of just waiting.

With the 191X badge, there are only 2 anime that you can actually watch that contributes to the badge.

https://myanimelist.net/anime/6654/Namakura_Gatana
https://myanimelist.net/anime/7485/Urashima_Tarou_supposed_title

The remaining entries for this decade are actually lost media or are inaccessible to the public. I have gone through every entry from 1917 to 1950 to confirm this. Anything we can't watch I have added to my Dropped list. You can confirm for yourself here: https://myanimelist.net/anime.php?cat=0&q=&type=0&score=0&status=2&p=0&r=0&sm=0&sd=0&sy=1917&em=1&ed=1&ey=1920&c[0]=a&c[1]=b&c[2]=c&c[3]=d&c[4]=f&o=2&w=1

For this badge, you should only make it so that these two contribute to our points, and have the remaining entries be blacklisted because we all know that people have added the other anime to their lists (either because they cheat or they confused other pre-WW2 anime from this time period as 191X anime).

Since this badge only contains 2 entries, it would consequentially be a small badge.

We can actually add this in now with these points and we don't need to touch it ever again (Any new finds or uncoverings we can update the entry count for these badges in the future.)

And with the 192X badge, I've managed to find 26 anime that we can possibly watch. The rest are lost media or are inaccessible to the public.

So the new badge points for this decade would look like this:

For the future stat page, perhaps we can get a visual of the distribution of users who have a level X badge that goes from lvl 1 to lvl 50

(With the current data)

(1-6 = bronze to red)

@SmokyWerewolf Because this is for the lvl 50 update. Compared to other decades/years, this is nothing.

Trust me when I say that I've laid out the points for every single badge for the future update. Everything is calculated and taken into account for.

The stats page looks good so far, there a couple of things that I think needs adding/tweaking down the line.

On the y-axis for Total XP and Badge Count, I think it's better to use notation (K, M, B) and round it to 4 significant figures. Each graph is increasing in increments that are large enough that they are within range for the sig. figs., so we can get away without using those extra zeros. Once the XP reaches 1 Billion, the 4th sig. fig. is just a million, so it would go like 1.040 B, 1.042 B, 1.404 B, etc., and it will be the same thing with the badge count, just 2-3 orders of magnitude smaller. Otherwise, you'll have to count the zeros every time you look at the graphs because they're bunched up closely that you can't tell straight away.

Is it possible to keep track over time without having those stats disappear? Like implementing a sliding feature on all three graphs and setting a date range to see how it changes over certain periods, or from when the data was first collected?

I think user-based histograms would be a good shout to include to this page, including badge ranks like I suggested before. You have a bar graph where y-axis = number of users, and x-axis represents badge levels (1-30, 1-50 after update - either as numbers or tiny images of the badges themselves), and the background of the graph is split into 6 (later 10) different colors that represent the colours of each badge in sequence order. This would be an alternative way of displaying the data from the Levels page into something much easier to understand.

Maybe Amadeus Activities should get a toggle to switch from hourly as it looks right now to a larger (48h) view with each action performed plotted on a line graph. Like how anime.plus displays their queue size over time: https://anime.plus/s/globals

Also, maybe a breakdown of the stats from the MAL DB?

With 404 accounts like this, maybe have Amadeus perform an action to delete the account if it gets renamed from something else to 404NotFound? Idk if the MAL account got deleted or there was an issue in finding the account ID to update the user's name, but perhaps deleting the account from MB and having the user rejoin would solve it?

This would get rid of 31 404 accounts that are currently on rn.

Regarding the manga badges. Did I understand correctly that they'll just get added to all the other anime badges? If so wouldn't it be better to keep them apart? As in MAL-badges for anime and MAL-badges for manga. Personally, I feel like it would be off to put them together.
@LyriaLegende I think that manga and anime levels should be separated. Linking them into one system causes far too many level drops especially visible when you're going to extend number of levels to 50. For an example user (~10K episodes, ~1.3K titles) I got result of dropping from level 22 to 17 which is much. In my opinion reasonable change should user keep level for a Level 22 within ±2 levels margin (in that case 20-24). When I calculated points for separated anime and manga badges, assuming that level threshold would be 50% for anime and 50% for manga (of point levels), I got for that user level 24 which is within reasonable range.

@BridgeFan Whilst we plan to have lvl 50 badges, when we add manga badges in the (far) future, we are hoping to introduce lvl 51-100 badges. Kinda like prestige badges where it's just a fancier/improved version of the future 10-color scheme where you start from bronze again. With the new lvl 50 update, you can achieve the lvl 50 badge with half the XP that is being offered of just the anime badges alone. We are gonna make it incredibly hard to achieve the 51-100 badges as the points required quickly increases (almost exponentially). Even with the new XP requirements, starting from scratch, it'll take a decade or so to achieve lvl 50 if you grind hard enough.

From what I've come up with, the ratio of anime to manga points contribution to the total possible max score is ~40:60. Manga is neglected as it is, this'll be a good motivator for people to start reading manga and LNs.

For each of the genre & theme badges, it would be nice to get a statistical breakdown of each of the badges. Maybe we should have a graph that displays the number of entries that are released each year somewhere on the badge page. And on the user-side of things (only for the person viewing when "It's me" is selected), we could get a sense of how many of these entries from each year we have completed? Perhaps by having two colors on the graph to represent user-completed entries on top of total entries released each year. And if we're able to, we could expand it by viewing the graph of other people?
