I have consumed a decent amount of content centered around conflict and spy, and most of it is from the mainstream. When it comes to the use of "mask" inorder to disguise, Mission Impossible has to be my favorite franchise, in the second movie released in 2000, there is a scene very similar to a scene from Episode 01 in Spy Family. https://youtu.be/YoXGY4wuYHQ (I couldn't able to find a better scene for providing proper context) https://youtu.be/YsottmKrX8M (The scene I think is similar from Mission Impossible II) But the biggest resemblance it shows has to be "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.", it's not the conflict part I'm talking about rather the basic premise of Spy Family, if one have seen the Guy Ritchie (same director as Snatch (2000)) directed movie, it follows the trio of spies, each hiding their real motives from the other, it slowly develops a emotional connection between these characters, which can also be seen in Spy Family when it comes to the dynamic of Anya & Loid, although I don't think any character in Spy Family resembles much any character from The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Loid is close to Solo from The Man from U.N.C.L.E. though, the test subject number for Anya 007 might be a reference to James Bond as he shares the same codename, Anya's favorite show is maybe just a parody of spy content as what I've seen so far is cheesy dialogues and exaggerated drama presented in a Childish way, I'm not sure whether any one of the mentions have even influenced Spy Family in any way, so, I'm asking what are the contents that inspired Spy Family and any one of the things I've mentioned are close to a resembles? Two more things I want to know. How many episodes covers Vol.01 of the manga? Is the adaptation a faithful one or takes creative liberties? Note: I've only seen 2 Episodes from the TV anime, so, avoid discussing content from later episodes unless it's neccessary for you to include something inorder to give a helpful answer. |

It was definitely a mistake creating this thread as I expected too much intelligence from others or maybe I'm too stupid here, the 2nd one seems more true. |

Yeah, I agree, the over the top and exaggerated comedic tone certainly makes it unique, it could have easily been all over the place but the association of other genres like drama, action and thrill and using them with as much as their requirement suits is something I'll call clever writing. Thanks for the recommendation, I might watch it after completing Hellsing. |

However, the editor is a fan of movies such as "Bridge of Spies, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Mission Impossible, The Spy Gone North, and Infernal Affairs". He also told in a interview that they often talk about movies or novels that they have watched and found interesting. So we can at least speculate that Tatsuya (Author), know about these films. |

Thanks, the reason why I created this thread was I couldn't able to find the stuff you shared with me. Misinformation or lack of information can lead towards misconception, you might have seen Dragon Ball fans making fun of other battle shounen fans for having a tournament arc in their favorite animanga but little did they know that there was a manga started publishing way before Dragon Ball name "Kinikuman" which actually deserves the credit for introducing Tournament arc to battle shounen which later used by many reputated battle shounen including Dragon Ball. Thanks again for understanding my concern regarding proper and accurate information. I'm reading Hellsing along with it I'm watching it's anime adaptations, the first adaptation of the manga takes a lot of creative liberties to the extent that the original writing overpowers the source material that's the reason why I asked regarding the faithfulness of the Spy Family anime adaptation. |

Non related but funnily enough, you might know that all the manga covers have the characters sitting on famous chairs and sofas. The second volume (with anya) has anya sitting on a Marshmallow sofa, which Im pretty sure it appears really breafly in the second Austin Powers movie. And although I do think its more of a coincidence because the author is clearly knowledgable on fashion and art, it shows on another spy movie parody |

Note: I've only seen 2 Episodes from the TV anime, so, avoid discussing content from later episodes unless it's neccessary for you to include something inorder to give a helpful answer. I don't remember if the author ever explicitly said what movies or other works that inspired him to make spy x family, apart from "spy films" in general. Thanks, it was already clear that he took inspiration from popular spy works but I can't be so sure regarding the resembles as two similar works can exists without being influenced by each other but incase of Spy Family I felt that the possibility of it coincidentally being similar or resembling any other work is slim. I do need the source from which you got this info as I couldn't able to find anything on the author stating or citing any inspiration or influence and also you know a lot of fans creates fake info that the author "once said that" to prove their own theory right. I'm a jojo fan, so I can pretty much understand your skepticism lol. Here's the interview with the editor where he states his favorites movies: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interview/2022-05-25/spy-family-manga-editor-shihei-lin/.185984 And here's the interview with the author where he talks about his general inspirations for the manga (it is in german): https://www.animenachrichten.de/news/121714/interview-mit-spy-x-family-manga-ka-tatsuya-endo Also, about your question if the anime is adapting the manga faithfully, the answer is yes. Pretty much panel for panel. They're even adding new scenes. Only some minor changes here and there and some changes in the order of some chapters. But overall great. As a manga reader, the anime is pretty much faithful to the manga. They haven't skipped any major chapters for Spy x Family Part 1. In some cases, they even expanded the manga chapters in the anime (like adding original anime scenes in episode 5 and episode 10) or added some bonus chapters from the manga (like at the start of episode 10). Also, volume 1 of the manga contains chapters 1-5 which are covered in episodes 1-4 of the anime. I would also add that the author, Tatsuya Endo, stated in an author's comment from volume 1 of the manga that he is a fan of stories where the characters hide who they are from one another (https://spy-x-family.fandom.com/wiki/Volume_1#Author's_Notes). However, I am not sure if this is a direct influence of spy films or novels since he didn't state any details. |
