It feels weird that this show has less than 80k members giving how good it is.
Is this show really not as popular as
Eminence, Sword Isekai, beast tamer Isekai and some Ecchi romcom airing this season that'll probably all be forgotten when the new year rolls in.
It's supposedly very popular in Japan, wonder why it ain't the case in the west

The general MAL userbase doesn't like Gundam judging by member counts on other gundam series.

it's a gundam, most people problem didn't even consider watching it, I'd imagine quite a lot of people assume they need to watch the rest of gundam first.

I think the Gundam franchise as a whole can be quite intimidating for the amount of titles and lore it has, so even stand-alone series may be overlooked by outsiders for assuming you'd have to watch other things prior in order to enjoy it.

As Theo mentioned above, very few MAL users watch Gundam, I think most UC Gundam has less than 100k members? There are a few reasons for it:
1) Majority of MAL are teenagers / young adults who focus on battle-shounen. They tend to scroll past Gundam.
2) Most people thinks that prior Gundam knowledge is required and does not want to watch animation from 1979.
3) Most Western audiences misunderstood Gundam because of Wing and SEED. Both Wing and SEED have overpowered Gundams blowing grunt units rainbow-style, which causes the misconceptions that Gundam is about giant robots shooting each other rainbow-style . In reality, Gundam is an anti-war tragedy to pass philosophical messages to the younger generation about the horrors of war.
Gundam is huge in Japan, it is no4 most profitable anime after Pokémon, Anpanman and Dragonball. Gundam in reality is even bigger than One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Chainsaw Man, MHA, etc.
