Do I even need to explain why she's so bland and generic?
She's a perfect idealistic waifu who has little personality apart from being insecure and shy. She very well fits into the Yamato Nadeshiko trope which I don't like at all.

Don't get me started on the pairing called Tomoya x Nagisa. I fucking love romantic dramas, they will always feature characters who are insanely flawed and have realistic personalities. Their relationship will have at least some amount of conflict to make it interesting.

Tomoya and Nagisa have very little conflict, they naturally get along with each other like love birds which are pretty unrealistic circumstances. If Nagisa was fleshed out more, I would've liked this pairing but Nah, they didn't care to flesh out her personality at all. She always shows two emotions being shy or being sad and that's all you need to know about Nagisa.

Before anyone comes and tells me that Nagisa and Tomoya are made for each other, I think you haven't really watched OVAs and read Visual novels where Tomoya ends up with other girls. Nagisa isn't the only one he shares chemistry with. IMO, he has way more interesting relationships with other girls especially Tomoyo and Ryou than Nagisa herself.

I mean you can have relationships without any major arguments or disagreements. My Grandmother said she never shouted at my Granddad foe their 64 years of marriage and they got engaged and moved to Africa after only knowing each other for 3 weeks. It's all about the mentality you go into the relationship with and these days most people go in with a bad one.

I kinda liked her, but she really is a bit devoid of personality. Maybe that's why I didn't care much for the direction of After Story vs part 1. Things were fun when they were cutesy, but melodramatic when they tried to get too serious. By the time I got to the near endpoint of After Story, I just kept saying "End already! Fucking end, please!!"

Wouldn't say that that's submissive at all. Both sets of my grandparents are the same and if you talk to other long term married people from that era many are of them are the same too. People in the past just went into relationships in a different mindset and purpose than they do today.

Agreed. She was struck with some unknown illness which plays a part in her being so bland. Then again, the only well-written character in all of Clannad is Tomoya. Sunohara had potential which got ruined in After story. I never cared much about the girls in Clannad. They all pissed me off. Especially that tsundere bitch.

Most of the older people I knew had men as the head of the house and everyone in the household were submissive to the HoH’s rules. I’m sure there were/are diplomatic relationships with that model, but more than likely most people are familiar with the tyrannical HoH.

First, this is my *anime* list, Vn’s and Ln’s mean little to me, the Ova’s are my least favorite parts of clannad, i get it, the girls want tomoya but them being together with him ain’t it, the chemistry ain’t even there,it’s forced, (probably because it’s a OVA and he magically has to be interested in anyone outside of nagisa who you can correct me if i’m wrong but she doesn’t make an appearance in either OVA) they’re perfect for each other, nagisa is pretty fleshed out to me, she’s frail and sickly but optimistic around her family, she tries hard but has little motivation until she meets, tomoya, she knows what she wants but is afraid to act, ready to accept defeat if it means someone is happy, and just needs a little push which tomoya gives her, eventually she’s able to act on her own after overcoming her biggest hardship which is blaming herself for something she can’t control, she can’t control she’s sickly, she can’t control her parents schedule, she can’t stop them from loving her enough to give up on their dreams for her, she eventually, she says what she means, acts accordingly, and overcomes highschool, she takes on the real world even tho it can have its hiccups but tomoya doesn’t have to be there for her to do that, but him being there is just the plus she needs to keep moving, she eventually asks for something that could put her In danger and even when the odds are against she’s still able to be there for tomoya, who’s done more than enough for her, at his lowest points, nagisa is well fleshed out, not generic by any means, she unique even if she does play into a trope, bland is never to be seen so imma pretend you didn’t say it, L take man but you have your opinion, I ain’t gonna argue about it cause at the end of the day i love this anime and its characters and your takes mean just as much as Ln and Vn’s mean to me.

So they need to have conflict in their relationship for the story to be interesting? Does Nagisa need to have lots of flaws to be interesting? It wasn't interesting enough that she was sick and that their families had to earn to live with it. Even after she died and Tomoya's family was affected.

Her character isn’t necessarily super complex but it doesn’t have to be. You can have a well written character that’s pretty straightforward. To me Nagisa is a very endearing character particularly seen in the things we saw her say and do in AS.

I agree with you. I like Nagisa and I think she’s a good character and the right person for Tomoya. When they met he was in need of direction. He was dealing with losing basketball and the anger and grief. She didn’t have friends because of her illness but she wanted to be independent and I think she helped him as much as he helped her. Being with her brought out the best in him and he felt at home with her.

It simply means you didn't get the story at all if you're posting in the "after story" anime thread.
A character being generic? In your statement, you simply didn't understand Nagisa's charms and prefer some other kind of girl than hers.
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

I read the entire vn and watched the ovas and the anime. Nagisa is great imo. I can kinda see why you may dislike her because of how she has only “little personality” but at least for me she’s the ideal waifu. Also they aren’t perfect, both of them have their things that they want to work on to be the person they want to be when they are around each other.

in some point I agree with you. Nagisa personality is always covered by shyness making us feel like she is the perfect inocent girl but somehow (specially in season 2) you don't really notice it because with everything that's going on you just focus on tomoya and how he is managing the pain. But when you look back that definitely feels like a mistake eventhough I'm not so sure if it wasn't on purpose or not but still I feel like they could've explored more nagisa personality
