| I was a little worried after the second half of the Antarctica arc dragged but I loved this home stretch ever since they brought back Ryoma. Shame the other pilots ended up getting shafted though (Gai, Kei, and partially Sho). Didn't feel quite like an ensemble but the original cast making force ghost tearful appearances up for it. Cosmic horror crept in and I didn't see that sudden twist of antagonists coming. Hope Tayel with the whole psychic/God children with the telekinesis is elaborated in Shin Getter Robo, part 4. I was thinking that Tayel might be related to Benkei at first but I think I confused it with the anime. Benkei in the manga never had that monk backstory. It's crazy. The Go manga predates all of Eva and obviously Gurren Lagann but I never realized how influential it was. It's kinda frustrating now how much GL lifted with the drills, getter rays=spiral energy, ending, and even the slogan of 'believe in getter'. I'm all for influence but it feels unfair when Getter is forgotten about. Overall I'd rate this part a 7/10! Fantastic first and last thirds, with the middle overstaying it's welcome a little with the Sho brother plot. Probably my second favorite part so far after Part 1. Getter Robo Go was essentially Akira meets Hellsing with the amount of body horror and military. Also who knew they'd somehow make the awful racist a likeable bastard lol. He's fun to hate and like, similar to Dio (not only in appearance) |
