Jesus Christ, the rebels have no mercy. This episode shows that bloodshed is still a common sight in the world of Kingdom. Lot of bodies and deaths this episode.

Ryo Fui really had his way of words with the Royal Family. Crazy how quickly events developed.

They're making it sound like a final showdown between Zheng and Lu Buwei... I really hope this isn't the end of Lu Buwei. He's been a great antagonist and I would like to see more of his sly and cunning schemes

Ryo Fui's on the edge now. If he wins, he gets everything. If he loses, it's all over for him. Well, it'll be a great and exciting upcoming battle between the two leaders and their might. Shin and his unit is going after the Royal Harem to stop the enemies that got inside. Great stuff going on at the moment, can't wait for the climax.

So Lu Buwei actually has a reason for his actions other than the normal case of being evil just because. As speculated in earlier episodes, this really will be his final gambit. If he loses, he's done for. And he very likely will lose, good riddance.

Eh, he has really served his purpose in the plot. It will be nice to see them focus more on the main goal and seeing more of the other countries then having to keep coming back to his schemes. I feel like after this point, if he stuck around, he would become one of those hokey villans that always has plots but always fails and never has any real impact.

This episode was interesting with politics, what attract my attention the most was the younger years of Lu Buwei, because in Shi Ji this is also an interesting back story involving his father. I can't confirm if the older guy is his father because he call him master but on passage in Shi Ji say that Lu Buwei had a talk with his father...

On returning home, he said to his father, "What is the profit on investment that one can expect from plowing fields?"
"Ten times the investment," replied his father.
"And the return on investment in pearls and jades is how much?"
"A hundredfold."
"And the return on investment from establishing a ruler and securing the state would be how much?"
"It would be incalculable."
"Now
if I devoted my energies to labouring in the fields, I would hardly get
enough to clothe and feed myself; yet if I secure a state and establish
its lord, the benefits can be passed on to future generations. I
propose to go serve Prince Yiren of Qin who is a hostage in Zhao and
resides in the city of Jiao.

So this is why Lu Buwei, baked Zheng father and bribe the favorite wife of Yiren father to adopt him to become crown prince. The favorite wife was childless, and Yiren real mother was of low background concubine and can't baked him to be high ranking prince. Lu Buwei bribed the people that suround the favorite wife to tell her how much Zheng father admire her. Then Buwei told her, now the future king love you, but you don't give him a child, you will get old and become ugly and on the throne will come someone who wont give you the same respect and love as your husband, adopt Yiren, he will be forever grateful to you and you will enjoy an easy life with him as future king after your husband demise. The same woman, give Yiren the mother of Cheng Jiao, the girl was from her family from Chu, she wanted to put on the throne a child from her family with blodline from the royal house of Chu, the problem start when Zheng and Zhao Ji where bring back in Qin.

Interesting how they skipped the assassin arc in season 1, and just completely pretend it never happened, until it casually gets mentioned for the first time in this season 4 episode. Wonder how many anime only people got confused what he was referring to.

We got to see LU BUWEI's plan for Qin.

It'll be exciting to see how ZHENG counter this in the coming episode.

he doesn't need to though, that stuff can be managed by the military commander and generals. if he can make Qin rich and strong through money then he'd be a great king.

Political side of Kingdom has always been strong. Sure the wars and fights are interesting, but when big time guys get around and discuss its when Kingdom really shines for me, like this time Sei and Ryofui.

Great episode.

This might be the first and last time we see Ryo Fui and Sei having a face-to-face talk, no... It's kind of funny how Lu Ryo Fui's idea of ruling Qin is actually not bad and more realistic than what what are you trying to do. It's not that Ryo Fui is necessarily wrong, but the truth is that he is way ahead of his time. He is a modern capitalist who favors populism as a means of control. But in this age, treaties and trade are easily overtaken by the whims of rulers and warlords. Sei wants to unify the middle kingdom through rapid military campaigns and conquer all of the middle kingdom by overthrowing all other kingdoms. But Ryo Fui's method sounds more like a long-term campaign to financially cripple the other kingdoms and make them submit without the need for a military war.

A kingdom built on wealth and not shedding the blood of its citizens sounds like a cowardly nation, one that would dirty everyone else's hands while at the same time washing their own. It sounds like an error, something like this may exist, but this is the warring states period, if a nation shows weakness or flaws in defense, it will be attacked there. Ryo Fui could certainly strengthen the defenses enough to appear invulnerable, but anime is evolving quickly, it would only be a matter of time before a great master of war and/or strategy could topple the defense armies of a nation led by merchants. Is this really the end? I really like Ryo Fui as an antagonist and would love to see more scenes with him and Sei fighting each other for power. And the last few episodes made me feel like Ryo Fui has more tricks up his sleeve than meets the eye.

That's basically describing the modern day capitalist society and govts, which is quite different from the hereditary and war-based monarchies of olden times

episode 20 already. 6 more episodes and season 4 is over. well. Thank you pierrot for reviving kingdom series after a long wait. I believe making 2 seasons is already exhausting them out already. So I believe we won't be having season 5 after season 4 ended at any time soon. I'm satisfy that the revival of kingdom anime. I didn't expect they even made kingdom 4th season. I thought that season 3 and there won't be season 4. but anyway, 2 season consecutive is really great. but I doubt season 5 will be announce anytime soon.

Season 5 will most likely come out in 2024... They just released the second live action movie and its really popular in Japan. The anime is also huge in China, the anime will not be cancelled... I expect when Season 4 ends they will announce Season 5

Hmm both are not bad ways, but yea they are born in war times, more or less they need to keep fighting to keep the peace or at least dwindle down what wars are possible.

Darnit, you beat me to the punch with the same thought I had! I don't know if I'd go so far as to say "better", but this scene felt just the same to me. A scene where the antagonist expresses his ideals so eloquently that the hero looks foolish. In this case, his proposition is clearly true: wealth over glory. If I were alive in this era, and I had the choice to live in a nation that conquered others but left me as a dirt poor farmer sacrificing my few excess dollars as taxes to fuel an egomaniacal emperor's war efforts, or else live in a wealthy nation who used the flow of capital to stabilize their alliances and placate their enemies, then I would choose the latter. Lu Buwei's vision is dramatic irony, because we know that what he sees is our modern reality, where money reigns supreme and true power lies far away from the warlords. The parts of the world where warlords still reign supreme and wannabe emperors still fight over pieces of dirt are hellholes that nobody wants to live in. Lu is a profit who understands the future world order, but if he prevailed, then perhaps there never would have been a unified China.

Seriously, this episode was amazing. But the anime never played its cards right for such a conflict to really matter. Lu's going to be defeated and then it's on to the next enemy. Lost potential for sure.

Honestly, I don't know why those two are even having that deep philosophical bullshit conversation. Zheng is officially the King now, he holds the ultimate power in Qin, I say behead Lu Buwei and the queen and everyone that's not in the king's faction as soon as possible. Why even wait?

At the end of Zheng's reign, some 15-20 years later, he'd had over 50 children, lol. I just noticed that he died so early, aged 49. His search for immortality contributed to that. Anyway, zero children from me. It's not my thing; I value my freedom far too much for extra baggage.
I wish humanity were stuck with bartering. Those were the simple times when people were mostly equal. Anyway, Interesting talk about money. I wonder how Qin would've fared if Lu Buwei won the war. Would the Qin Empire still form?
Zheng would turn into a tyrant in the ten years he ruled a united middle kingdom. But, on the other hand, maybe Lu Buwei was a good guy with only the best intentions for the Middle Kingdom.
