The anime is nothing special. Sure, it has some good animated moments, but the characters and the story aren't interesting to me. From what I've seen, the anime is 5 out of 10 to me.

The is way too fast, it was alright in episode one, but with episodes 2 and 3 it just feels like we are missing a whole lot of stuff.

It has its moments, whenever the animation started getting good I'm getting hype add to that the great music they used whenever the animation level up. But for the most parts it's pretty normal and I can understand the pacing since a lot of people says it is just a recap. For now 7/10

I like it a lot. It definitely felt like it was not written by Japanese. episode 3 felt to fast but i still can grasp the main idea ( i guess)

Also pissed by those fans who complains a lot about the animations lol. Hypocritically, most of them were super allergic to CG animes while protecting the original RWBY like crazy zz. I know that it was created by one person and he already past away. I do respect the originals and had a plan to started watching rwby but still...

As an OG RWBY fan myself I will only speak for myself, I personally don't like CGI that much either, a lot of the stuff I've seen in CGI so far is crap but I do like CGI if it's done right and IMHO, the OG RWBY has decent CGI in Vol 2 & Vol 3 and the CGI gets better in Vol 4 and up, RWBY doesn't have the best CGI, sure, but hell, it sure has extremely awesome fight choreography and hype moments in those action scenes with good music to hype the shit out of me in those moments and that's the thing I love the most about the OG RWBY. The story is nothing to be amazed at but I do praise the choreography in the action scenes which is simply amazing, I also like the character interactions too and those cheesy moments and comedy which I actually liked, I also love their facial expressions, all the things I mentioned (or most of it) is lacking in this anime.

And so far in this anime, I don't see anything interesting to keep me hyped in these 4 episodes, IMHO this is clearly a downgrade in every aspect compared to the OG RWBY.

BTW, other animes with good CGI that I praise are: Beastars, Houseki no Kuni, and Kengan Ashura. (I didn't like Houseki no Kuni though but I do praise the CGI in that anime, it's simply beautiful)

Thanks for the reply, I will give the OG some watch. I was a big fan of western animation before giving it up for animes. With the return of dragon prince, I might switch things up a bit.

I actually forgot to mention another series that is freaking amazing, it's Arcane (a series based on League of Legends), that one has the best CGI around, with a pretty good story, characters, and fight choreography so if you haven't watched that one then watch it, you can't go wrong with it, Arcane is highly praised by the critics.

I'll have to watch Dragon Prince as well, that one seems interesting.

Considering the first 3 episodes were recap, it was fine.

The show is so different from the original that I don't even think they are comparable. It's a side grade if anything. CGI fights have its own charm in that it will look much more continuous and fluid, and this is not something that 2D fights can always do unless they have too much money to throw at it like they do it sometimes at Ufotable or Madhouse.

The show is fine tbh. Not outstanding, but it's not bad if you look at it at a vacuum and doesn't have a bias coming from the original and expected the show to go in the exact pacing and way you wanted it.

I haven't watched the original RWBY and probably never will, but I've heard things about it and that has got me to read the RWBY (mini) manga. I liked it, the concept was interesting enough, the characters were good, designs pretty cool, etc. Then I found out it was going to get an anime made by SHAFT, which got me excited since it's my favorite studio and I liked what I've seen in the manga.

The anime is good, the animation is actually impressive, the music is good, and the character designs are more stylized and look pretty different from the original work, which is probably one of the things old fans are mad about, but still, looks good.
From what I understand, the first 3 episodes are a summary introduction of the original, which I wouldn't know how good or bad was handled and how much they had to cut out, but I think they've done well enough of a job with it.
Considering from ep4 onwards it's not based on the original anymore, instead written by this guy, which doesn't have a good record on writing for anime. We'll just have to wait and see if it's going to have a slow drop in the quality of the story.

Even so, I honestly think "OG RWBY fans" are very biased towards their "OG show", as expected with how immersed they are with it for 10 years or however many it's been going on, overlooking everything and just staying for the story and characters, which I very much respect, but you've got to admit when it's just nostalgia and that you wouldn't sit through it again (I may be wrong tho). The OG RWBY CGI, even from the latest volumes, does not compare at all with Arcane, as I've seen mentioned, or the few good full CGI Studio Orange anime. Just consider it a Weiss spin-off, which is what it is, and don't expect much out of it.

This guy summed it up well:

I like the CGI a lot in RWBY, especially in S4 and up but yeah, RWBY's CGI doesn't compare to Arcane, that one is in a different league. Arcane is definitely one of the best series I've watched so far.

RWBY is not the best show out there but I still enjoy RWBY for what it is, just a CGI series with interesting characters, decent comedy, and awesome fight scenes, RWBY never disappointed me with those awesome fight scenes (apart from some wonky moments in Vol. 01).

I can't say the same for this anime though, I'm not enjoying it, the things that I like about RWBY are missing here, this just feels like Dragon Ball GT or Boruto, these things should never have existed in the first place but that's just my opinion, if anyone enjoys these shows then good for them.

My dad who didn’t watch the main series, barely understood this one when we watched it together. I had to explain a lot, and he was unimpressed, for what it’s worth. I loved it, but I’m invested in the characters/story already.

4/10 I'm still glad this exists. Now I don't have to feel to much, like purist trash for neglecting the original.
