I'm beginning to love Akutsu. I think his spicy tongue is a good way to measure the mental toughness of the players.
Also, I looked up what a playmaker means w.r.t. football and it has me hyped for Aoi's future matches.

I don't like Akutsu. He is very rude and arrogant.

So Fukuda is widening Ashito's scope as a playmaker, that's even more awesome. Too bad he hasn't realised it yet.

Like Togashi I have a new found respect for Anri. She's too amazing as a character, more screentime please.

For people who want to learn, this is in real life example how fullback playing as playmaker.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwkv-AZATig&ab_channel=FootballMadeSimple
This is pretty impressive considering TAA still not existed back then when the chapters released. But maybe the author was just inspired by a player like Phillip Lahm or Jossua Kimmich when Pep still managed Bayern.

Yes, it is great he widens Ashito's scope!

Please, Anri, appear more in the series! I like her too! She is so cold-wise and empathetic at the same time!

Maybe Ashito will not score as much as he wants....

Also neither assist the goals...

But mostly or maybe all the scored goals will begin always from him....

Ashito's first match as a defender and it ended up being a disaster as expected. Though at least he didn't get anything broken by rape-faces Akutsu. That's a good thing.

So a playmaking fullback, huh? Fukuda sure is an ambitious dude but I still prefer Anri's analysis more. Ashito's position should be in the midfield.

Indeed. But Fukuda is their coach, not Anri. Although I too like Anri's deduction more.

I think Ashito would be great as a Playmaker Fullback. I hope he can not only play in defense, but also play as before.

Lol yeah, Akutsu have no talent as manager for sure. Everyone who watching Ashito really impressed. Japan national team really lucky to found hidden gem like Akutsu.

That's why I have mixed feelings for this series, the micro-macho comments (and this is not the only one in the whole series) like "I've never seen a girl talk like that about soccer" for God's sake the Yamato Nadeshiko are the best in the world there's not even a reason to compare them to their men's team because honestly they will crush them, even if they were not girls can know about soccer and be better than you in theory or practice, that comment was uneeded.

In another note let me tell you something, without much knowledge abouth soccer, I knew that the MC would be an excellent playmaker but the coach's instructions of "I'll give you directions and develop them on your own and give me results#, leave a lot to be desired, if Ashito locks himself up because of his frustration for being lateral (I can see the liberty, Anri's childhood friend), and doesn't work out, what a pity you were not made to be a professional soccer player; but if he succeeded it was because of me being a great coach.
I won't analyze it anymore because it just makes me like this anime less.
I like to post in manga forum when I feel it is worth it, so people will think. "Shit, is her again" or something.

People asked me where I read certain thing but the rules say no telling where did you read so maybe I am too boring for not saying? Or salty because you didn't check my profile that says don't ask because I hate people to ghost me after that. I love learning languages so maybe I did not read the manga in English.

This is a haunting sentiment that every defender knows to be true. There is no back up, there is no second chance, you are quite literally the last line of defense…save the keeper of course…actually maybe that kinda deflates the whole argument but you get what I’m saying right? Recklessness is not an option. This is probably the biggest difference in philosophy between defense and offense.

On offense you can make 1,000s of mistakes in a game and still win. Why? Because you only need to be “right” once. Just 1 goal is all that is required of you. And even if you don’t score, people will still pat you on the back if you were close and put on a good show.

In defense all it takes is 1. 1 miss step, 1 bad tackle, 1 poor clearance and it’s over. You’ve lost and you took your entire team down with you..

I love that this show is bringing this stuff up. Makes me and all the other unthanked defenders out there feel validated .

What I don’t really love is the logic of everything else.

So they repositioned Aoi to fullback because his vision allows him to make interceptions and then send the ball up to the forwards for a counter. Ok great. Just one question. Isn’t that already the job of the midfield???? Are they really going to make him a CDM but just call him a Defender like it’s some new revolutionary thing? And the excuse is that soccer is more “Free”?

Like sure but formations exist for a reason.

As we just mentioned, defenders really don’t charge up the field very often because there’s no one there to bail them out if things go south but it kind of seems like they either expect him to do just that, or even more insane, to make plays from all the way back in defense??? Like why? Why not just pass it up to the mid field and let them handle it? It be an easier pass and thus you’d be more likely to maintain possession. Right? Am I missing something? Do I just not understand Soccer? Ah this hurts my brain!

Fukuda you better start talkin right now and gimme some answers because wtf is going on

I think they'll move him centrally, or if not he could still be a 'playmaker' as fullback. Sort of like what Alexander Arnold is for Liverpool

Say what you want about Akutsu, he put in the work.

Anri had a best girl moment right there. Although, it would make this anime even more unique to have a fullback MC, I rather want to see Aoi as attacking midfielder.

Man, Aoi needs to stop talking so loudly in public. Takeshima and Togashi are two of my favourite characters. I appreciate how supportive they are of Aoi in their own way.

And, indeed, Playmaker is ideal for Aoi. Fukuda is a very wise man. After all, there's nothing wrong with being a defender. In football, every player is important. They are all valuable and significant in their own right. I liked how he explained to her how her bias was causing her to overlook the bigger picture.

WOW ok the show is strange....the girl made it fun again, but overall its such a pain to change positions.
If anyone ever played you will get it. There are so many things you have to suffer in Football.
The changes are hard but with conversation you can understand. Forcing it on someone, because you want your vision of a team to come true. Just nasty.

Still kinda crazy that he was considered "good enough" to compete with others at trials .. though Fukuda saw the incredible vision that Ashito possesses and his future potential. He lacks so much in the fundamentals and basics department, but that's part of the story.

This is an amazing sports anime masterpiece, which opened up and increased my knowledge, especially in terms of football, now I as an observer found Ashito in Trent Alexander Arnold (an English footballer) playing for the Liverpool club, before I didn't really mind it, but after seeing this anime I feel that my view of football is the same as the character "Anri" in this anime which is oriented towards strengthening the midfield, and now I know how strong the influence of a wing defender who can play at different levels is. Currently, even according to what is in this anime, Liverpool and Trent Alexander Arnold show their fangs with the playing style shown in this anime, so in my opinion "this is a very amazing anime, which can change your view of football, 10/10 "I hope to deliver the next season as soon as possible. Thank You.

I'm beginning to think this show is actually dumb

It was obvious from the start the intention was for him to be a Playmaker, but instead of making him appear decently intelligent...
We had to go thru the pain of him being quite literally braindead then having miracle epiphanies

"Omg, you mean there are 11 players on the field? GASP!"
"Omg, you mean I should consider... PASSING THE BALL? GASP!"
"Omg, you mean I should consider... CROSSES? GASP!"

The author intended him to be a playmaker, and yet Ao needs to go thru literally the most basic concepts of Football? Seriously?

Next up we have this random insult to basically the viewer, because it is PAINFULLY obvious that Ao isn't a fullback, never should be.
But we need to get this weird "Hah, dumb female doesn't realize he shouldn't be a Center, but a Playmaker."
As if in most teams the Center positions aren't inherently Playmakers

Hell, considering his all the aspects he has shown so far midfield is exactly where he belongs, a bog standard Midfielder Playmaker
Hell, I'll even say he would work as the Winger, that way he can still have full view of the field from an angle
but he doesn't need to be overly reliant on his nonexistent defense skills and he would use the supposed boundless stamina he showed off in the first episode.
Then again, he would be a really slow Winger
