Even in their homeland, it seems Haku and the cast is safe. Coming back into this show all these years felt a bit strange imo. Not much has changed about his personality though.

A lot of emotions were poured into the cast for this episode I believe it's a decent set up for rest of the season. Looks like we got mostly everyone back such as Kuon, Atui, Nosuri, etc.

This, somehow, wasn't completely terrible but it was very, very rushed. Covering some content that's a solid 10 hours into the story but it wasn't a complete lost cause. Yet. I'm still wondering how they're even planning to pull off Nekone and Haku's character arcs after they rewrote their characters and the content that serves as their base.

Already have the first retcon 2:34 into the episode lol.

At least they finally admitted it after hiding it for a full season

Not having Keiji Fujiwara is a real blow. Just doesn't feel the same. It makes everyone feeling bummed about Haku's death like double sad

Haku's soul is brown lol

Fuck yeah we got the Mask of Deception OP dropped as an insert song again. That track always gets me hyped

Despite my aggravation with the final arc of season 2 due to the changes from the game, this was a great opening episode for season 3. The only thing that would have made it better was if it had Reiji... I noticed a retcon from season 1 and another from season 2 but it seems to be keeping most of the stuff intact. I pray for my enjoyment to continue.

And here begins the adaptation to the best VN I've had the pleasure of reading, if only the adaptation is a fraction as good as the VN this will be a treat to watch, get your tissues ready!

Still can't believe that Keji Fujiwara won't be doing Haku's voice, as it's his greatest performance. I had no problem whatsoever with his new VA but Keji Fujiwara will be missed. Can't believe it's been 2 years since his passing

One would assume having played the game I would be ready but those sad moments still hit pretty good, heck maybe even harder, I missed out so much Atui's lovely voice and dialect and we got two songs by the incredible Suara.

I knew I was going to get sentimental on the really strong bits but I was ready to cry at any moment on the first episode.

Also to anyone that got to know the series from Utawarerumono: Itsuwari no Kamen's anime adaptation like myself do yourself a favor and play all the games, they are incredible.

I recommend you to play the game first before the anime since anime skipped a lot of parts in the previous season too and you'll get the full experience in the game

OMG THIS WAS BETTER THAN I EXPECTED.

1 minute in and all the emotion are flooding in.
The events of the previous seasons with the music.

The voice acting and that song at the end to tie up the first episode.

For anyone who likes world building like no other, this series is your answer. They literally have an encyclopaedia for all the food they have in the world. It's an RPG like no other.

For those wishing for a refresher, I like that they didn't waste time with too much recap as you can just watch the previous anime again. They need all the time to cover material as much as they can.

Need the first game remake release. Will be better without the trashy H scenes killing the vibe. Truth and Deception were amazing compared.

Anyway wow this anime release caught me off guard. It's been what 7 years? The anime did Maroro wrong in anime though. He was much more likable in the visual novel. Nekone however is an improvement.

It is hard to see everyone after they learned about Haku's death, especially Nekone. :(

Even after everything that happened, the cast can't get a break.

Nice start for the long awaited Itsuwari sequel.
The irony that Haku's original seiyuu is actually dead and Oshutoru's original seiyuu is voicing him.
Props to Tone for doing a good job though and another F for Keiji.

I believe the above replies that the first season was butchered is correct since the pacing was so odd. But I don't regret it since the first and second episodes were very good and the third is probably gonna be even better (I really enjoy battles)! Hopefully the mistakes of first season won't be repeated, like rushing important events and focusing on SoL, but so far we are getting the same high quality content from last season finale

people who vote 5 of 5 for this is the real ignorant

S1 skip and butcher so many events? yeah that is the fact, but it is watchable because the pace is not too face or skip too far or replace with forced events

S1 didn't same to the game so it is not worth to watch it? don't worry, i already played the game before and know well the story and even if it have different content almost to everything in it, i can guarantee you that S1 is still watchable

but we talk about S2 in here why you talk about S1? then let me ask you, did you really give 5 of 5 to this episode 1? really?

let's ignore what happen in the vn for now, i just can't follow what happen in episode 1 because the character have too less conversation!!! i know that war arc will be happen in here but something like "preparation before war" always comes first and it will eat that damn the first 6 episode!!! so what happen before the war happen actually?

1. oshtor already dead and replaced by haku and kuon leave them is what we already see in the last episode of S1, so the episode 1 should start with melancholy atmosphere where everyone try to get used with "no haku environment", not let's forget haku forever and let's go to the war right now!

2. new VA for oshtor-haku in here! yeah, that is the same VA from ZAN version in the game. BUT his voice is not too deep like the previous one or should i said that he fail to give melancholy atmosphere with his voice? the result is, not just mess content but now mess voice, this is not what we expect to see from this adaptation

3. nekone didn't have time to tell her sadness, oshtor-haku didn't have enough conversation to tell how cornered is he right now, moreover the important part is no time to show oshtor-haku sadness for cannot to lighten nekone sadness and this is really important

4. i don't know what project member think but don't put other characters too fast in here because this is still episode 1 and we still have 27 episode remaining left!!! i always feel awkwards atmosphere everytime other characters start to make a contact to mc soon where we know what he should to do for now

gezz, 6 years after the game released and more than 4 - 5 years iirc after S1 finished and what we get is real junk. eh junk is too much? then should i said that it will ended like date a live S3 and S4 soon? i don't know which one is better but both of them is junk for me

i hope the project leader can delay it more longer at least until this anime is just pure adaptation for the war arc only, trust me it is better like that than compress war arc and demise arc in the same title

I played this after Muv-Luv Alternative and people say Alternative is the greatest visual novel ever. To me it's Mask of Truth.

Lol they surely take the supposed death of a friend super lightly.
Also, let's say their plan to protect the princess and restore her as the rightful heir succeeds, I wonder how do they expect a mute and brain damaged child to rule over a country?

Not bad. I also forgot most of the story from the previous two seasons but this first episode made a preview of the most important developments.
That's why I wholeheartedly enjoyed this episode. This will be one heck of a series and if I based this from the game, it seems this will be the last season...
I'm psyched to watch this sequel.
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

The series is off to a very good start.
Recapping the most important events from the previous seasons, including the fact that Haku IS Hakuoro and wasn't confirmed in Itsuwari no Kamen, was very important since it has been so long and I didn't want to rewatch everything. They still didn't explain again some parts that I forgot in second season, but that's fine.
Hopefully they'll explain the rest while creating another intriguing story.
