So I just finished the first season and I must add that it was a brilliant experience, but there were just a few things I wanted to clear up, and a few minor spoilers I want for the future of the story.

First of all, is it a case of the rest of the manga just not being as bad as s2, or does it actually keep up the high quality of s1? (Cos if the manga isn’t brilliant either I’m fine with leaving the story at that cos it was a pretty satisfactory ending). Secondly, why does Phil have so many favourites, I understand he’s highly intelligent and was able to make such a mature choice at the age of only 4, but I wouldn’t expected him to have done something more grand like stop Isabella in order to gather so many favourites, so was just wondering if he played a big role in the rest of the story. Also, did Leslie (isabella’s childhood friend) already find out about the harvest on his own, or was he only able to understand he’d die when he saw Isabella in tears and on top of that, would they be good examples of the main trio of their time (2 exceptionally gifted students). Also, in the process of becoming a mother, it seems they had to take care of their own baby, but it showed sister krone with just a doll and that made me wonder if she had some sort of special circumstances, cos she seemed so attached to that doll as if it was her own daughter. Also the mothers and sisters clearly deep down want the children to live on right? Shown by their true love for them, but it’s just that their own future is what’s most important to them which is to be expected, and I assume they’ve already witnessed the horrors of the true world which is why they’ve given up all hope and don’t want to step a foot wrong. Or do they literally not care for the children at all and are they just very good actors. What also confuses me is how ray actually knows leslie’s theme, is it to do with him being isabellas actual son or is it just something random they added for dramatic affect. Finally, does Isabella continue to play a big part in the story, or is this goodbye to her?
Thanks for your time

I would say S2 stands nowhere over S1.
I have watched both but u might just waste time with S2 I would say it isn't even worth watching just stop at S1 or watch a S2 summary video.
and don't bother with manga too just stop at S1.

Imo, the manga has some really nice arcs but for me none of them beat season 1. At some parts it does seem a bit tiring and has some cliches shounen touches, but there are some wonderful characters introduced in the manga. It really depends on what you prefer. Phil does not have that much of a bigger image than what you have seen either. I also believe Isabella found out about the secret after Leslie's death, not during his shipment. Sister Krone is implied to have had problems producing a baby, which is most likely the reason she was just a sister (below the mother). The manga reveals a bit more about the mothers towards the end (what they really thought of this job) and Isabella does have a very important role for the ending of the manga. I believe the mothers just got too caught up in trying to survive that forgot how they felt for the children, yet just like Isabella they love them deep down. Lastly about Ray... he never had infantile amnesia, which means the memories you have from the moment you existed as a baby are not forgotten. Isabella used to sing Leslie's tune while pregnant, which indicates that Ray remembered the tune from the womb (or isabella just also sang it after birth and he remembered lol). Hope this helps!

1. The manga never gets quite as good as season one but it’s still enjoyable and worth reading imo. Season 2 on the other hand is a completely butchered adaptation. It cuts out so much stuff from the manga and even has some bad original stuff. It’s not just a case of season 2 not following the manga, it’s bad on its own and many anime onlys hate it too.
2. I think so many people like Phil just because he’s cute.
3. Leslie did not know about the harvest. When he saw Isabella in tears he probably just assumed she was sad because he was leaving and they were really close friends. Isabella didn’t find out about the truth about the orphanage until after Leslie already left.
4. The mothers do not get to take care of their own children. As soon as the babies are born they are taken away from their mothers immediately and are cared for by the sisters. The babies are also assigned false birthdays so that the mothers can’t tell which baby is theirs.
5. The mothers and sisters do care about the children and want them to live, but they know there’s nothing they can do to stop them from being killed. If the mothers help the kids escape they themselves will be killed and replaced.
6. Ray knows Isabella’s lullaby because he didn’t experience infantile amnesia and thus he remembers Isabella singing it to him while she was pregnant with him.
7. Isabella is absent for most of the rest of the story but she returns in the final arc.

Yeah, it really does help. Thanks so much! After hearing what you have to say, im definitely gonna read ahead, cos there were so many things that deeply interested me in s1, such as the guy who made the books and the guy who made it out of the orphanage called mister(?) (yeah kinda spoiled myself outta curiosity on that one. And literally every single important character in the first season was so well written so if the characters aspect continues being strong then I’d be more than happy to read on for that alone.

Little warning: When I continued ahead and finished it I lowkey felt an emptiness, mainly because when I watched season 1 I had no idea what happened afterwards and I kept reading with excitement. The ending was somehow bittersweet, in many aspects, without it being a "bad ending". The ending being the ending was bittersweet for me, cuz I had this void of this super good anime left in me and I could not find many other series of a similar topic and vibe. I do have some recommendations that are really similar to the story, but if you do plan on reading on then be prepared to have nostalgia at the end :)

Thanks a bunch for all the info.
Wait so when it showed Isabella walking on the concrete wall next to the cliff, and Leslie was playing the banjo(?) she still hadn’t found out the secret? And also does that mean she only found out a short while before the scene where she’s shown next to the cliff at night with the mother beckoning her to come back - and if so, was she attempting suicide, or thinking about escaping cos she clearly didn’t have any rope. Following on from that, why did she decide not to, was it because deep down she wanted to survive, or just that she couldn’t think of leaving now that Leslie was already dead?
Also, so does that mean every single child is the son/daughter of a sister/mother candidate?
And would Isabella have found out that ray was her son after he started humming the tune. And if ray also knew due to retaining memories from his childhood, how was he able to have such a normal relationship as orphanage member and mother with his ACTUAL mum.
Finally, I just wanted to hear your opinion on the manga ending, cos I’ve seen many people here and just in general saying that the final arc is underwhelming, and just wanted to get your thoughts on this

I’ve been lacking that feeling for the past few months, due to not finishing any top quality anime/manga but I get what you mean. Yeah I definitely do plan on reading it sometime cos it just seems way too interesting not to. Season one already had enough sad moments that I was left to dwell upon so I expect the ending to leave me in a bad state. If you could mention those recommendations that would be greatly appreciated 😁

For me there are 2 anime that resembled the plot somehow (I've watched these, some people recommend more anime but I will not recommend others cuz I have not watched em).

1. The Orbital Children. Basically there are some kids that grow up in a space station and are admired from the people on earth. They eventually meet children from earth that admire them. We get to see how the children born in space need technology for basic daily tasks, like robots and machines. It is a mystery/sci-fi series, but it is not a serious one. It has lots of jokes and some people don't find it that interesting, but it did give me the whole "children being used" vibe that The Promised Neverland gave me. Just executed differently. The anime revolves around artificial intelligence and the power it has over humanity.

2. Shadows House. Now here I see a really strong resemblance to The Promised Neverland. Both in the art style and concept, it is the anime that filled the void I mentioned earlier. Season 2 is on its way too :). I cannot say much about the plot cuz spoilers, but it's about a house full of nobles that are made of soot/ashes. They are pitch black, without faces, and use these "puppets" that look just like them to have conversations and use them as servants for cleaning etc. The setting is very interesting and when you finish season 1 you will realize why it is so similar to the promised neverland. PLEASE WATCH THIS ANIME! It is so underrated!

In case I think of more I will update :)

1. Isabella didn’t find out the secret until after Leslie left. I believe that she missed Leslie so much she tried to run away to be with him. But after she got on top of the wall and saw the cliff she realized she couldn’t escape. She wasn’t trying to commit suicide. Isabella’s “mom” then showed her the tracker and told her escape was impossible, but it’s unclear if her “mom” also told her the secret of the orphanage at this time. Isabella’s shocked expression when she was shipped out and saw the demons for the first time may indicate she didn’t find out until then.
2. Yes, every child is the son/daughter of a sister/mom candidate.
3. Isabella found out Ray was her biological son after she heard Ray hum it when he was only 6 years old. Isabella gives Ray the same love and affection she gives all the children. She even let Ray be her “spy”, gave him rewards and let him live to the age of 12 despite her getting virtually nothing from the deal. I’m not sure she could do anything else for him just because he’s her biological child.
4. The final arc is a bit underwhelming imo but there are people out there who liked it and the ending. I still really enjoyed the manga overall and it’s one of my favorites despite it being flawed and some parts being stronger than others. If you’re curious, just check it out for yourself! :)

Thank you so much for all the quick replies and the recommendations. For the orbital children, I feel I would only be able to enjoy this sorted anime if it had a dark or at least serious tone, and I have aren’t the reviews aren’t great so I’ll prob not watch it for now.

Regarding shadows house, it piqued my interest back when it was airing, but I was too lazy to start it and ended up forgetting about it. However 2 main things concern me. Firstly, it contains slice of life as a genre so I was thinking That might impact the suspenseful moments? Or maybe just doesn’t fit well in this sort of setting. Secondly, once again I was wondering if this was dark at all, obv not on the level of TPN but at least to a substantial level.

Also, I’ve been keenly reading the TPN manga, and although the artstyle is very underwhelming and the story doesn’t quite match the brilliance of the manga, it’s still been a very interesting read and I hope the adult escapee gets some great character development cos I think he’s a cool character. Just a quick question, I just read the last chapter the anime covered just in case and realised it actually included content that was cut from the anime which I thought was pretty important. It was a pretty long inner monologue of Isabella clarifying one of the questions i had - whether they truly love the children or not. I was joust wondering if u remember whether they cut any other important information by any chance?

Tysm for the clear answers. Yeah I’ve started reading the manga now, and although it’s a completely different setting, it’s still very interesting. Only problem is the art is very underwhelming when compared to the beauty of the anime, but I don’t really mind considering the story and characters seem to be the strong points

About Shadows House: As the anime progresses, the secrets of the universe it is set in (about the dolls and stuff) are revealed, but the first like 3 or 4 episodes will not have that much suspense. However, as you get hints about the characters and the lies they have been told, you kinda keep wanting to watch, and the season ends with some sort of cliffhanger. It does require some patience, but in all honesty for me it was worth it and it felt like watching tpn again (though tpn was interesting from the beginning). If it is dark enough, well, you judge. I believe once you finish the 1st season you will be able to conclude if it's dark or not. I think its is is quite dark, just a bit below tpn (as a concept I mean. I don't recall jumpscares like Conny's corpse in tpn)

About TPN: The adult escapee, Yuugo, has A LOT ofcharacter development and cloverworks was frowned upon for not including him in season 2. He is one of the most important characters. As far as i remember, season 1 covered everything apart from the little details you mentioned. In fact, the anime had additions! Leslie sang in the manga, he did not play the lullaby using instruments. I believe sister Krone did not have a doll in the manga either. In my opinion, season 1 was executed perfectly and I enjoyed that part of the story more in anime form, the music was exquisite and the additions were somehow needed. Somebody can correct me if I forgot something that was removed in the anime.

Lastly, no need to thank me :). I'm happy to help
