The ranking matches in a one-game Round Robin fashion to pick the best of the best for the Inter-High representation, it's the only way to play fair and simple.

The first-years' duel at the "rotten prince" Yusa's arrogance to knock him off his high horse, and Akira Uchida has to be unlucky to face him in the first round, his one point score was beginner's luck. The others don't have it simple either, and while the Higashiyama twins can be hard to tell who's who, it's Yusa's standard provocation that sets their heart ablaze.

Day 2 of the ranking matches, and the first-years are trying hard they can to win their games. Hongo really testifies his Captain position by training Ryo up to his game to then face Yusa and take his words back, but ultimately it wasn't enough to edge a win. And considering that most of the changes only play into effect late at Day 3, Ryo's match with Koki will define whether he's in or out.

It's a bit of a shame really, this anime has a lot of badminton "spirit", and I'm loving the training aspect of it, but the animated match scenes are easily the worst I've seen so far from a badminton anime, and just downright stupid at some points.

I mean the last point in the MC and Yuuya's match was hilarious, net cord from Yuuya which the MC hit a high jumping smash off? That was some of the dumbest shit I've ever seen.

This is also why I will probably NEVER watch a tennis anime (Tekyuu excluded lol), I'm far more into tennis than badminton, I feel like it would be torture watching stupid shit go down on a tennis court.

Really proud of Akira! One point against that arrogant knob ain’t bad at all. Mizushima did well too against Yusa. 7 minutes my ass! Ha! Suck it! He might have lost that one, but 5 points ain’t bad considering.

Amongst the newbies I think Matsuda and Mizushima are probably the best. It’ll be interesting to see them face off given their different strengths and approaches to badminton.

I don't know which direction this anime will go, sometimes I'm not even sure who's the protagonist. But it's always nice to see Sakaki taking off his shirt from time to time, and this episode even has one of the twin (which one?) took off his shirt too! But in other to see every team members shirtless it gotta require big event, like bathhouse, onsen, beach, training camp, etc.

The ranking match began and there's already a spark of rivality heavily hanging around Matsuda since Mizushima got more attention to the rotten prince than himself. Meanwhile, Sakaki continued to be loud and Akira manage to avoid being ended up as Aki-love. The twins so far just casually fill the space that left behind for them, but also still interesting to see how they play on double against the upperclass team. So yeah, even if its ended up with a weird cliffhanger over Matsuda vs Mizushima duel, but also troubling with minimalistic animation quality aspect for this episode. Idk how to interpret this episode rather than just ok.

Hope the next catching up more wind....

I’m liking the series so far but I’m noticing that it’s really slow… not much happens in every episode and they do add a lot of mundane stuff that should not be taking up as much screen time… for now it’s fine but we’ll see

I’m glad that the player’s levels are consistent and not fluctuating too much based on plot convenience. That’s incredibly important to create investment in a sports/power shounen. Unfortunately the animation is still somewhat bare bones and we don’t see a lot of the matches because of it.

There’s still the problem of unnecessary scenes being included (particularly the ones at home) that start and end abruptly. It speeds up the pace more than necessary and distracts from the main focus of the episode.

Also, how long are they going to keep putting up description boxes for all the characters? It makes the anime seem like they don’t have confidence in their own storytelling.

Don't know if this is how they actually play singles in Japan but I got irritated as hell seeing these serves in single matches lol... This is commonly used in doubles, but in singles you would not use this kind of serve that often. This would take like 10 minutes of research to find out, shame I had high hopes

I feel like this is kinda going overboard with creating rivalry between members of the same team, when said team members are currently at such vastly different levels. It's like the writers have some kinda vendetta against talent, because they're going out of their way to make Yusa seem like an arrogant idiot who needs to be taken down by the "plain, normal, hard-working boys." In reality, the guy who won the Nationals last year isn't gonna give a bunch of new recruits even a single second of his day - he'd be too busy practising and developing strategies against opponents who're actually at his level. The "rationale" they've come up with - that he's crushing on Mizushima's sister - is also nonsense. If you want your kouhai to score you a date, you don't antagonise him, you make him feel special about his "badminton talent" and then worm your way into his sister's good graces. Even an elementary school student knows that!

Also, can we talk BS protagonist favouritism? The head coach ignores his first-string players completely and devises a time-and-energy-consuming strategy that, apparently, was meant to train only the protagonist, a second-string player? That is one shitty coach! Normally, you'd leave the second string to your assistant coaches (and he does have them, we see them during practice) while you train the first string. You'd only focus on specific second string players once they start proving themselves able to challenge the first-string on their own merits, at which point you can start grooming them to beat your own previous crop. You don't devote all the team's practice time to them the day after you scout them, because you'd likely be wasting your time with the majority of them.

Also, the in-game animation was pretty bad. Maybe I'm a bit biased cos I really enjoyed Ryman's Club last season and can already tell that Love All Play will pale in comparison on all counts, and I know those guys were pros while these are HS students, but that shouldn't affect the animation quality during matches, only the level of the matches themselves, right?

I knew there was something off about those serves! I don't play badminton and watch it only rarely, so I figured I was in the wrong, but turns out that wasn't the case, huh...
