The first sports show of the season, and is an adaptation of novelist Asami Koseki's completed 4-volume novel series from 2011 to 2014.

While Hey! Say! JUMP's OP is boppingly good, Longman's ED is decent, or maybe in total, Fair All Play. Tanjiro in a badminton setting, huh.

MC Ryo Mizushima has always been fascinated with badminton despite his lack of experience, specifically his idol Kento Yusa of the Yokohama Minato badminton team. His friends Nakano Shizuo and Kadota Hiroto are good badminton buddies, but with one special invitation by the team's coach Jin Ebihara, sets off a chain reaction of a straight recommendation that has him agonizing.

While the recommendation sounds good, his family (or his father rather) thought otherwise since it runs in the family. Ryo's indecisiveness creates a void within his own family, between his father and his sister Rika (who's also in Yokohama Minato) on the pros-and-cons side, but the decision will ultimately fall to Ryo. Nice to see that his friends support his decision, and thus going for it with winning his family too (albeit an academic one just like his sister).

Ryo's journey into Yokohama Minato starts here, along with other middle schoolers (Shohei Sakaki, Higashiyama twins Taichi and Yoji, Koki Matsuda). Along with team captain Hongo Mizuki and team ace Kento Yusa, the stress officially commences.

I'm getting similar vibes to the volleyball novel 2.43 given the source. Just hoping that this doesn't suck like that. A decent start.

It's been a while since a non shounen/manga sports adaptation got me hooked. They usually don't hit the right notes, but this one did the trick. Promising start. Will this be single or double cour? Since I didn't find any info I assume it's the former.

First episode and we already have an unbearable amount of flashbacks and no-one-asked exposition dumps, how is that even possible? For someone who's worked on Cowboy Bebop, you'd expect no less than great but wow, the directional quality is surprisingly horrible. It might come off as nitpicky but the copious amounts of eerie close-ups, disoriented features, still frames, and recycled sequences just don't help for an initial impression. There's also the lousy-ass protagonist that's been overused in like the last 700 or so animes. But despite that, I'm still hoping that Hiroshi Takeuchi was not sober when the episode in question was being directed. He's talented, at least that's what I'd like to believe.

I thought it was a pretty good introduction episode. It gave some information on Ryo's family and what type of person he is.

The art and animation was nice and I think the show has potential to be something good. But also has potential to crap the bed.

Op and Ed were okay.

This was an OK first episode, I don't like the MC, because he is really cliched and annoying but I liked her older sister, maybe their relationship a bit too idealistic but they have good chemistry, I hope the matches will be gorgeous.

While I'm getting spoiled by Ryman's Club, which is such an untraditional sports anime where players have to get their work-life-badmintion balance right because they're also salaryman just as they're badminton players. But Love All Play is a traditional sports anime to the bone, and the result is also very nice. You can't just deny the power of tradition when all elements are high quality, the character design look like Ghibli, and the music is made by the fame Yuuki Hayashi of My Hero Academia, Haikyu!!, Run with the Wind, etc. Also judging from the opening scene, the match will have ASMR experience, not done in any sports anime before.

I would have overlooked all of this ten years ago and had a jolly good time watching too, but I don't know that I can justify the time invested on another episode. Forget about technical aspects, this is just generic. I'd rather rewatch Ryman's Club and it's not even done airing.

This show skirts that dead average line real hard. Not gonna continue though after that pants on head discussion about why we shouldn't just take the sports scholarship. We can definitely see that dad could've never gotten an academic scholarship

I was expecting him failing at academics but guess not :D

Everything went pretty smoothly for the main boy thus far.

Dad was the mini-obstacle that was pretty easily cleared thanks to amazing sister and main boy's determination.

Seems like the main obstacle will be the awesome player guy who looked at the middle schoolers like dirt. What's his issue? We'll see on the next episode.

Just what the doctor ordered; another badminton anime.

Episode 1 was alright. Felt like your typical shonen sports anime, with your not super-talented but hardworking MC and the super-talented but a jackass teammate.

I'll be curious to see how they wrap up the story in one season.

those are generic character tropes. if you can’t deal with simple tropes then no anime with its characters will satistfy you because all anime have characters with similiar tropes to other maybe more popular shows.

Actually might watch this one just to see that ED at the end of each episode, it absolutely slapped. This show itself is honestly pretty whatever though, it felt like everyone in Ryou's family was being needlessly stupid, including Ryou. I mean I get that he's a teenager and doesn't necessarily always make the best decisions, but I guess I don't understand what the big deal was regarding the sports recommendation? Even if he were to get injured, as his father was concerned about, how would that create school-related problems for him. IDK, it's probably me just not understanding how Japan's school system works, but it still came across like the characters were just being conveniently dense for the sake of creating a conflict.
Trying out (almost) every anime that airs each season since 2018.

Ah Kamado va again, i see...

Must be nice having a supporting sister like him. High jealousy acquired xd.

Though, its nice having him using a difficult path to entering his beloved school. Now his father can't be a hassle anymore. Even if he may received such harsh news about how different his idol outside the field. But he got a great welcome from that cute cat. So i think he will be fine...

Yeah, this one was kind of rough.

The editing was not clean, the art looks mediocre, and the drama in this episode felt way overdone. So what is he loses the sports recommendation? Then he just goes to the school his friends went to. There is practically 0 risk.

Everything else is very standard. This is going to need a hook of some kind to keep me watching.

They only announced one cour. Since the anime is funded by YTV, wich is a TV station I guess, if the Japanese viewers enjoy the anime, maybe they could produce a second season

The anime adapts a 4-vol novel, so they might as well choose to adapt the entire content of those 4 volumes in this single-cour anime... Or not.

This was boring.

The protagonist: he looks like a side character. Not sure how and why. I have seen many protagonists with simple designs, but they can still stand as the leaders of their own story. But, Ryou looks empty, like he has no story to tell. Maybe he looked better in the character design phase? That can happen sometimes.

I didn't like the physics in this at all. The movements were boring and weak. They had no power and sense of existence.

The background art was also very underwhelming. It looked like the artists making them had no interest in making them.

The dialogues were soulless and boring. Like it was copied from some place else. Even when quoting someone else, I think the timing and delivery of the dialogues should have a personality that makes it feel like it's coming from a human.

A lot of the scenes were very plot convenient. Like the invitation to the new school, or the friend's text right when the protagonist needed.

When Ryou talks about going through hard times together with his friends, they show him doing planks. That was his hard time! lol. Not a difficult match or fear of failure or an emotionally challenging time. Just planks. I know it's tough to do planks, but I wouldn't quite call it "hard times".

I liked the sister, at least. She's supportive and tough. Not the high pitched girl who just exists to look cute. It was nice looking at her trying to support her brother.

First episode was kind of basic without much hook to it. Hopefully things pick up when Ryo is interacting with the main cast. They do largely look like archetypes to an eye-rolling degree though so I'm not super confident this series is going to bob its head above mediocre.
