I like how the maincharacters are no heroes

I mean to be fair, many of battle shounen MC’s are also not heroes. They have one goal in mind but they end up saving people on their journey, so the Made in Abyss protagonists aren’t necessarily unique on that aspect. That doesn’t mean I don’t like them though, in the contrary, just as you said, I like how they all have their own personal reasons.

Reg and Riko dived in to the Abyss fore there own reasons. And when they face Bondrewed, despite knowing what he does, there first attept is piecfull negotiation.
They would have been Ok with never laying a finger on him and only fought him becuse he proved a Thread to them. Yes there where feelings of hate and thoughts of revenge withinh Nanachi and Reg but they never gave those a priority.
It was confusing at first that they kept Bondrewed alive but on further thought taking him out was never on there to do list to begin with, he was no longer a threat to them and I can think of reasons why Riko would not want to kill him. But going in to that would drag this out to long.

Point is the trio are no heros at all. They are entirley self serving and I like that a lot.
They just do there own thing. Live there live the way they choose to. That is just kinda refreshing and cool.
Yeah Reg had some heroic tendencys in season 1 but he seems to adjust.
Well the Abyss seem to just naturally not to be a good place to be a hero so it might just be them adjusting to the environment.

agreed. everyone on the anime is Just human, no heroes here. of course They mess up things sometimes,after all, they are humans (except for reg lol).

That's not true, shonen's MC are generally really kind and if they can save bad or good person or even a stranger, they will try to save this person. (not in HxH tho)

That's not true, shonen's MC are generally really kind and if they can save bad or good person or even a stranger, they will try to save this person. (not in HxH tho)

You can say the same things for the made in abyss trio though. Just because they’re on a mission they would help people in need just like nanachi did help Riko. They’re all kind as well. And no, Gon would still help you if you were in trouble. But as I said, many not all and shounen isn’t just HxH Naruto OP and the mainstream ones.

I get what you’re saying, but to be a hero doesn’t mean you have to forgive the bad guys. In Gon’s case it’s simply because he’s a kid. He only knows good and evil, nothing more, so yes you’re right in that case

I actully have not watched that many different Anime but I watched a few where the MC is not the Hero like Death Note ore the Saga of Tanya the Evil. While that might be debatable those MCs feel like straight up villains (I still love Tanya). The Spider from "So I am a Spider. So What?" is also pretty ruthless but still can be seen as a hero depending on how you see it.

I admit my horizion is pretty small.

yeah.The Abyss isn't something you wanna be reckless around.In other anime I feel like The MCs can get away from trouble by either powers,help,friendship,self sacrifice etc.. But in Made in Abyss,Dying a quick and painless death is a gift.In the movie I remember that there was a creature that feeds on a decaying humans nutrients and that I remember nanachi said something like "they keep feeding off the nutrients off humans and makes sure that they don't die in the process otherwise the nutrients are lost." and seeing their decayed,rotten flesh kinda got me really bad.Of course what happened after they meet bondrewed is levels above resulting in probably the most mentally and physically draining movie I probably have ever seen.
I also like that they aren't much for saving cause no way In the deepest pits of hell that is the Abyss that I want to suffer for months,years or even decades being slowly decayed to the most painful way to die.So yeah,im glad they don't do a lot of self sacrifice because it would ruin the terror and magic of these creatures.

Actully this movie was very uplifting fore me becuse it showed how strong the trio is. Sure they had there tough moments but, in part through support of one another, they bounced back fast from everything and just there attitude was very comforting. Its hard to describe.
It also showed again that Riko loves this Adventure. She found her happines in it and that seem to be bleed over to Nanachi and Reg. Its kinda bad ass how there is never a sliver of doubt in any of them that this how they want to live there live. Its very satisfaying to watch.

Also Bondrewed did not really had much of a shock factor to me. Nothing in this movie is quite as extreme as Mitty except the other hollows but we saw them in season 1. And I watched season 1 eleven times by now. I watched the movie 5 times by now. Actully Made in Abyss never had much of a shock factor for me to begin with.
