| Okay so this is the movie adaptation of Gantz made 12 years after the original anime, it is based on the "Osaka Arc" that occurs later in the manga and is also later than the original anime since the original is based on the first till like mid ish chapter? Anyway this movie is animated fully in CG animation so it looks like the Final Fantasy 7 remake for reference and honestly the facial expressions are a bit off sometimes but other than that i absolutely love it, looks waaay better than the original anime even tho i liked that style too. Everything is super detailed and pretty i just love it. So anyway since it's based off the Osaka arc, Katou (who is voiced by Daisuke Ono this time by the way mASSIVE W) is the main character of focus here which i don't mind because Katou is awesome. He gets stabbed to death and thats how he gets in the game, Nishi is also there again somehow but i haven't read the manga (yet) so its probably explained through that. Anyway everything is showcased way better in this move than the original anime ever did cause of the CG animation and also they give us so many more details about the game that the original anime just skipped for no reason? for example such a small thing as that the hand guns have to reload after 3 shots, and after you win 100 points not only can you choose to be resurrected, you can also pick a more advanced weapon instead or resurrect a team mate like what the fuck that is awesome and the original anime just didnt say anything about that why lol. Also people can actually see the "aliens" as well as the Gantz players in this version which also wasnt in the original anime so i assume that was from the manga and this movie was just adapting it far better. The fight scenes are awesome and theres barely any hesitation or waiting for people to do shit like in the original anime so the pacing is just way better, what an upgrade from watching people stand on a bridge and yell at Katou for 3 episodes achieving nothing at all LOL. There are still a few unnecessary character deaths but hey its Gantz whatcha gonna do. I'm already typing for way longer than usual and i still havent even grazed the surface of how awesome this movie is (theres a random titty sex monster like what the fuck who made this up its so funny), you don't have to have seen the original anime or read the manga to watch this movie but it does give you some insight and a general picture of the story so i do kind of recommend at least watching Gantz and Gantz Second Stage first (even though some shit happens there that is just straight up not true according to the manga) its a quick way to have a general idea and buildup for the movie, reading the manga also definitely works though but takes longer. Anyway this movie is fucking baller and i love it, highly recommended. -9.5/10 Pascal Score (I'm only not giving it a 10 because i wish it was longer, i wish this is what the entire anime was instead of that slightly shit adaptation, and also there's no Rip Slyme in this one 😔 ) 10/10 MAL  |
