I thought you wanted animes that are sad like anohana. Idk if there is anything out there similar to anohana I will search a bit i think I know a few of them I just need to check for names.

Not as good as Anohana but some of the PA Works shows like Hanasaku Iroha and Nagi-Asu give me that vibe. Also Kids on the Slope or Silver Spoon.

These are kinda similar I think: Clannad, Angel beats, Ao haru ride, Barakamon, Gekkan shoujo Nozaki-kun, Golden time, Grand blue, Horimiya, Hyouka, Hotarubi no mori e, Kaichou wa maid sama, Karakai jouzu no Takagi-san, Kiznaiver, Kono oto tomare, Masamune-kun no revenge, Plastic memories, Sakurasou-no pet no kanojo.

Just to be clear half of these animes doesn't have much similarieties with anohana but they are all kinda summer themed shows that you can enjoy.

My favourites out of all these animes are Clannad and Plastic memories heck Clannad is even my all time favourite anime ever made.

Actually I think Barakamon and Hotarubi no mori e are perfectly described by your needs. They are both in the midle of nowhere and summer themed.

If you are going to watch Clannad you will need to prepare tisues and a lot of them. If you get attached to characters you will cry a lot. I couldn't watch any other anime or show for 2 weeks how hard it hit me.

Something what made me feel like Anohana is name Kimi to Nami ni Noretara
However I watched it few months after breaking up so it might not be that sad at all
but soundtrack is nice I suppose

Aren't those just sad anime? I'm not sure if Death Parade, for exemple, has for themes summer, middle of nowhere Japan and nostalgia.

Dagashi kashi definitely has middle of nowhere vibes. So does breakwater club and as another said; Barakamon. Keep your hands off Eizouken! Has a really unique setting you might like; it’s not in summer but it definitely has that sense of nostalgia. None of these shows are very sad however

Angel Beats definitely has that nostalgic vibe. I won’t spoil anything if you haven’t seen it, but the majority of the show takes place in a high school where the main characters hang around and get into shenanigans

Nagi asu. People say clannad but that’s got a totally different vibe tbh. Same with Angel beats and the other Key-adapted anime series’.
