In any real life sport or semi-relealistic sports story, people who get into a sport late struggle a lot in their carreer because the competition has a big lead in experience because most start in their childhood or early teenage life. In Baby Steps for example, the main character still has to compensate for only starting at 15 even years after he started playing but yet here, Tatara seemingly just becomes one of the best dancers in Japan after barely dancing a year, which honestly seems like an insult to the sport. Kiyoharu and Sengoku at some point straight up say experience doesn't matter much which just seems unrealistic to me.

I’d say it’s very realistic, in real like that’s just how it is, some people can start and become one of the best at something in a very short amount of time, while others can’t no matter how hard they try

I've been playing the piano for 8 years, recently I found out that a friend of mine had been taking lessons for less than a year, and based on his progress I think that in another year he could surpass me.Sometimes it is not a matter of time, sometimes people are born with natural talent.

Edit:
I'm talking about technique, because in experience I'm obviously way ahead of him. But if in a year I contact him with groups and bands I've played with before, I think in less than 2 years he could be a rival when looking for jobs hahaha.
Also as far as I remember in the anime it has been made clear that the dancers the main character has beaten are actually better than him, but his personality and part of his essence are the things that make him more enjoyable in the eyes of the judges, as well as being necessary characteristics in an artist who expresses his feelings. At least that's what I think, I'm not a dancer lol.

I would say it' pretty realistic. People in real life can be born talented, but on the other side there are the people who no matter how hard they try, they won't surpass the talented ones.

As a person who was dancing competitively for 10 years i would say it's not that simple. You have to remember, that all dancers are training AT LEAST 3 times per week for few hours (most of them are training 5 times or more), so you can't just simply in one year bypass people who dedicated thousands of hours into practising over a lot of years. Also during over a decade of dancing i've learned that there is no such thing as talent. Talent is only 5% of your success, rest is hard work (so remember, if you tell somebody that has succeded that he is talented you basically insult him, more proper way is to appreciate their hard work). So only way to bypass more expirienced dancers is to work more than them, and harder, and you still have to catch up to their countless hours already dedicated for hard trainings. So it's possible to catch up, but definitely not in just one year.
However I don't know on which level japanese competetive dancing is. I don't know any japanese dancers who are on world's top, so it's possible that it's not that popular there, and level and competition is low. So in that case, there would be a possibility that from japanese perspective what Tatara did is possible.
