This is what I've seen when reading the manga. I feel this is a bit of the author leaking into the writing - you see it later on with Gojo as well: appreciating other cosplayers and even speaking in what could be read as an affectionate / attracted way towards a male cosplay. They're both artists appreciating the fine details of other peoples works - less any romantic/sexual attraction.

I don’t get why it’s so bad people like imaging characters as gay or wanting them to be canon because they want representation. And women aren’t that obsessed with each other and be straight. Marin is obsessive and has a lot of sexual posters of women in her room and plays an aroge in the perspective of a male character. Just because she likes men doesn’t mean she isn’t bi. Why can’t people be gay ir bi. The person asking why does everything have to be gay or queer doesn’t realize that 99% of media is straight characters. That gets boring fast. People who aren’t a minority don’t understand what it’s like to want to be represented when they are portrayed on screen all the time. Marin being bi isn’t that weird. And the comment about feee is also dumb. Just because a girl or whoever ships men together isn’t invalidating males being close as friends. That’s ignorant. As well as even if they all are gay that doesn’t mean they like each other as like an orgy. They can be close to their other male friends and have a love interest be a male too. This thread is dumb. Let people like what they want. Stories are allowed to be left up to interpretation and people are allowed to want or prefer different things. Don’t be closed minded

Why is it so bad? Because you are intentionally distorting a character in order to fit your own narrow world view. If you want to watch a show where the characters are gay there are plenty of shows with that. The reason 99% of characters are straight is because the LGBTQ+ community only make up 3% of the population in America and even less in Japan. Also to say Marin has to be queer because she is obsessive is stereotyping her significantly especially when she is clearly written as straight and an attraction to girls never so much as appears in the manga even when she has interacted with plenty of females and shown no such interest. And your right that a guy can have close male friends and be gay but you missed the point wildly. In Free none of the characters are gay yet they are intentionally distorted as such by fans to ship them. What’s the term people like to use when you turn a gay character straight? I believe its called straightwashing, something I’ve hardly seen but when you get angry about a gay character being turned straight by a fan you can’t do the same for straight characters.
