| Wanted to give the manga a try, before I read the LN later this year, hopefully before the anime comes out. It was the LN vol1 cover that had me interested in this work to be frank, the art is really good. As for the manga, the art is also enjoyable, nothing to special but far from crap. The setting does remind me of Harry Potter, but now you have swords and even a samurai female lead to make it a bit different. Too soon to drawn any conclusions and I m expecting the manga to be inferior to the LN, I do like the MCs and the surrounding cast, we don't get a lot of samurai female leads nowadays, so Nanao has that going for her, but I have seen the trope done far, FAR, better with Meiya from Muv Luv series (<3). Curious to see how they will develop the MCs, in this chapter alone Nanao backstory and motivations were already exposed, that is quite a lot of development for her suddenly so early on, which worries me that there won't be much else going for, for her afterwords, other than following a generic pattern many are used too... As for Oliver, hopefully, he will get some more development soon. Overall a decent 7 so far, I m a bit biased since I like the LN art, but I m hoping the LN is an improvement over this, the setting is interesting enough and the leads have potential if they can at least spice it up a bit more and give us some solid development and give the characters clear goals to aim for, that manage you to make you care for them... I will be quite happy if the author can do that. |
