| Man this episode was DEPRESSING; but I love it. The nightmare Rudeus has at the beginning, then finally returning home and seeing it being akin to a desolate wasteland, Ruijerd parting ways, having done his duty of getting them home safely. He offers to return the pendant to Rudeus because it's precious to him, who then tells him to keep it. Insert saluting meme here. When a character in mushoku tensei says goodbye, it feels like we've been with them 100 episodes longer than it has been. Rudeus and Eris then move on toward the camp site, where Eris not only receives the grave news that all her immediate family is dead, but that she would have to become the concubine of some jerk for the better of the kingdom. DAMN take it easy on her. Even the "I want to have your kittens, meow" scene seemed kind of sad. For a brief fleeting moment, Rudeus is happy, having finally done it- only to realize seconds later that Eris had left him, with Ghislaine to train and become even stronger. Rudeus then walks off and proceeds to cry, and we get the saddest moment of the whole episode: the shot from behind of Rudeus crying, but it doesn't actually look like he's crying, more like he's just walking normally and chilling, going to get his morning breakfast or something. On a side note, why does every character in anime sound like a baby when they're crying? Like they literally go: "WAAAAAAHHHHH". It's slightly annoying But fr though, the turning point episode is once again the highlight of the cour; but honestly, this episode hit just as hard but in different ways. When this re-watch is finished, I'll definitely keep it at a 9/10. Not to sound so technical, but maybe I'll raise it a decimal from a 9.2 to 9.3, or more. Now onto experiencing the last episode of this season again, which, no joke, what happens...??? I literally only remember Rudeus walking off crying and then that's it. What happens in this last episode, I'm actually clueless rn, making me all the more excited to watch it again. I'll probably remember it really well once I do see it though. Anyway enough talk, let's fight. |

| I dunno, whole anime before this point was lead up to this moment yet the result was pretty disappointing from viewers side. I mean, they probably did it on purpose to maintain the grim tone of the scene but many of the previous episodes had higher sexual tension than this. I realize he was pretty much used by her to allow her to move on but whole sex scene and her subsequent plot-device departure was kinda letdown as far as character building goes... Their interactions were pretty much flawless during the show and they had great chemistry together, that's why I'm kinda disenchanted that the author obviously used beaten trope I need to get stronger to stand by you in the future. Especially since it's obvious it was done to sidetrack Eris for sake of the other girl who attended her grandad execution. I mean, I liked Sylphy in the beginning (and I still like Roxy) but I really don't know if I want throw away Eris x Rudeus relationship just so the story can move on. Really, not really hyped for the next arc. |

| It's sad because I didn't like the character very much already, but with this episode, you bury her for me, you bury her! If you really want to go into the psychological details of why she did it, I imagine for her it was Oh, I'll talk and be right back. Yes, but up to now, everyone's trying to find themselves in this world in this country where people have been separated for 3 years and they're running away. It's too infuriating, really. And it's even sadder. The symbolism is strong, the fact of leaving your bundle of hair and a poor letter while the night you take us out and I want a family. I know this comment sounds very salty but I like the story xD! |
| Mushoku Tensei was relentlessly vexing in its portrayal of sex through Rudeus juvenile perversions early on. It's incredibly surprising it handled a sex scene between a 13 & 15 year old well. The scene wasn't erotic or meant to appeal to the audience's eye, but its heart. Eris had already made her decision to live prior to Rudeus. But she does love Rudeus. He loves her. They're family. Eris makes this known before she departs. The problem (with the writing) is how Rudeus will potentially follow this. The woman he's known for half his life stated they're family. He can not not not not not romance the other women now without turning this into a stupid harem. It will be Mushoku Tensei trying to have its cake and eat it too, unless something major happens to Eris (such as her death) or the like. This was the character development I had been hoping for so very long - that Rudeus lust from his initial warped view of women would be supplanted by genuine love for a woman dear to him. The way Rudeus' paedophilic perversions were handled in the early novels was stupid and not portrayed as sternly as it should've been, but the pay off (as of Volume 6) was immense. If Rudeus takes Eris' hair as memento and continues with life, this character aspect will be a success in my opinion. |

| @Mich666 With the way several relationships have been written, with characters coming & going, it would be a disservice to discount Mushoku Tensei as simply dumping Eris to move onto the next girl. Can't discuss what happens in later books or seasons here, but this is a profound scene. Eris recognises she'll be departing the boy she spent 6 years with. He's one of her only living family. She makes it known how dear he is to her before she departs. Eris' task necessary, she departs in secrecy, because she knows he'll try to stop her. Eris leaves her hair for Rudeus as a memento. The way it's written & presented is masterful. The problem is how Mushoku Tensei capitalises on this. It can either continue with a depressed Rudeus living with Eris ever on his mind, slowly continuing his growth as a man. OR it can become a stupid harem. If it's the former, it will be a powerful tale about the complexities of life. If it's the latter, Mushoku Tensei's beautiful main theme is compromised for trite. |
| Rudeus has a nightmare after that near-death experience, where everyone he knows has come together for his tenth birthday party. Rudeus finally reaches his village and remembers his past. Ruijerd parts ways with them now that he has safely dropped them in their hometown. Rudeus takes Eris to her house, and they find Ghislaine. Eris’ parents and grandfather died. Rudeus finally lost his doutei status 🤣🤣🤣. Of course with Eris, after all they’ve been travelling together for a long time. Eris left a letter for Rudeus and left to journey with Ghislaine. She even cut her hair. Rudeus feels abandoned. |
