Finished the debut light novel volume of Orc Eroica that dropped very recently and surprisingly, it wasn't too bad. I didn't expect a masterpiece in this series by any means and more of this just being a dumb but fun read, but I actually thought this was decent. I liked the attention of detail given to the lore early on focusing on the war between the Coalition of Seven led by the Demons as well as the Alliance of Four led by the humans, and how everything played out to lead to the world currently undergoing 'peace' between various species through a treaty.

And while the rest of the volume played itself out in a simple fashion, it worked enough for me. Bash doesn't have much actual growth to go through with combat but he sure does have a lot of work to do with his personality and ability to attract women of various species, despite being an orc. He's a nice orc but the orc does have different values and practices compared to other species so adapting to the treaty at hand where he has to earn the woman's respect and approval for sex and potentially marriage in the future is key for someone like him, particularly given the reputation he has as an Orc Hero.

I would have liked more focus on Boggs though, the antagonists in this volume were flat here and probably the biggest weaknesses in this volume for me, even if they're not important in the long run by any means.

Nice that Judith just didn't immediately follow Bash after Bash saving her, and is focused on doing her own thing as a rookie knight and still has to sort out her feelings (past-trauma for orcs and having that suddenly change a bit with Bash's arrival) and get stronger on her own. Since if she just followed him immediately, that'd make the series instantly boring for me with the overall goal since it would already feel like it would be accomplished. She has her own growth to go through now after all the prejudice she had against orcs and now knowing that there are good orcs too out there, just like with humans and how there are bad and good ones and you can't just group them all together, even if degrees are different like with orcs being a lot more aggressive and rowdy for a norm in comparison. Liked her side story with another rogue orc in the side story at the end, where she shows her respect for orcs like Bash and encourages him to be like their Hero, the orcs do have their pride and Bash is definitely a positive influence to them.

The Elf arc is in the next LN volume, hope that one delivers like this one. This wasn't a spectacular, show-stopping volume but for a series with a premise like this and acts as more of a side-project for Rifujin ga Magonote, this was decent and definitely exceeded my low-expectations of being dumb and fun.

Well i had read the Web novel version. As a comedy it are good while also show a big world build and some accept of about hero, world, country tradion, nationalism and many thing beside using adult stuff and misunderstood as joke content. Poor Bash for being less horny than Rudy but people will still think this will have more sexual stuff thank to famous Mushoku Tensei... Also hope for anime because this novel high change will not apper in my country. Bash journey will be loenly one wilh out Zell so you should give credit for her being moving hp portion and Bash love advicer

Picked this up without any knowledge that it was by the author of Mushoku. After finishing Volume 1, can definitely see the parallels to Mushoku with the adventure type story with different races. Always nice to see growth as various characters learn about other races while also weighing in their own past experiences.

Animejas’s review of Volume 1 is pretty good. Nothing too crazy in this volume but am interested to see where things go. Bash and Bogg’s fight and the nostalgia each had for eachother was one of the best parts of the volume. Would be nice if it was expanded on or the anime could potentially improve on the scenes.

Agree with pretty much all that's been said, but find it odd that no one mentioned the running gag of Bash not stating his mission (to lose his virginity) leading to an ongoing series of false 'realizations' of his mission by pretty much everyone he interacts with, except for the fairy.

And it's due to that misunderstanding that he'll get sent all over creation doing Great Deeds, based upon the Epilogue.

With an ever increasing awareness of the passing of time...
He's got a deadline.
Orcs that are still virgin when they hit 30 do turn into Wizards. With a clearly visible mark that everyone can see.
He's already 28.

The clock is ticking.

The world building ain't half bad.

I really didn't expect to love this one as much as I did, but goddamn this is why I love LNs, they just hit perfectly for me when done right, and when its something straight up fantasy like this with its own unique twist, I absolutely can't get enough of it.

This is somewhat similar to Goblin Slayer which is another series I really like, large classic fantasy world with magical creature like elves and dwarves, and the world is full of magic, and there is the dense kinda dull headed MC who at the same time is a total badass, and the side characters are all weird and unique in their own way, and of course the dark fantasy elements that I think are done in a pretty good and entertaining way.

So for a Goblin Slayer fan like me this LN was just amazing, and its really awkward that I read this before MT.

I loved it, to respond to the author notes, I indeed chuckled, it made me smile, I too think a anime for this would be nice, hopefully they dont f it up. I think this has potential.
