Any animanga or franchises you feel isn't well known or doesn't get enough love? Just a way to broaden horizons. https://yurimother.com/ often has good recs that branch out to light novels as well! |
Addition to thread with some reads I've been enjoying lately. Handsome Girl and Sheltered Girl Not localized, it does start with a misunderstanding gimmick which may make consent seem dubious at times but the other protagonist does her best to not take advantage of the situation. Cute butch/femme food o o9 Donuts Under a Crescent Moon This one is localized! It has an office romance but there's already a good relationship established between the two. It's sweet how they better and encourage the other to improve. No flaws with this AFAIK, a really mature approach to coming to terms with lack of an attraction to men. Oniisama E / Dear Brother Not localized in English but has an anime adaptation. Hopefully you don't let the dated style dissuade you, oniisama e is ahead of its time with explicit sapphic romances and sorority melodrama lol. Content warning for substance abuse, self-harm, and suicide. |
not sure if this particularly counts as a hidden gem, but i really liked love my life by ebine yamaji!! i feel it does highly focus around sex so if you don't like such media you should probably pass on this one it isn't very insightful on lgbt+ culture in japan however it provided a mature view on a gay relationship and communication on coming out, cheating, taking a break etc. it's a pretty short read and the artstyle is easy on the eyes so have a look if it sounds like something you'd enjoy!! |
Well, some I particularly like are Adachi and Shimamura which is a light novel (a great one!!) that has been adapted into an anime and two manga adaptations: 1, 2 (I only recommend the second releasing manga, though. The first one is very mediocre but the newer one is a bit better). Both the novel and the newer manga are localized. Another one I find pretty great is the light novel Bloom Into You: Regarding Saeki Sayaka which is by the same author as the previous one. This is a spin-off of the main series which is a manga. People would hate me for saying this.. but I think the spin-off is better than the main manga! But, you should read the main series before, as if you don't, you won't understand most of what's going on. Both the main series and the novel are localized. Some other great series: After Hours (Localized) Whisper Me a Love Song (Localized) Cirque Arachne (Not localized) |
I'd say definitely the manga octave. The MC is very relatable and shows rep about comphet. It also shows about acceptance about being gay and how difficult it is trying to come out to people. The MC goes through problems about her sexuality and herself as a person with her partner. |
