Okay so I understand that the watch order for monogatari is very disputed, just like the fate series. After watching several videos and reading threads, it seems like the main big difference is where this trilogy is in the watch order. Some say to watch it right after bakemonogatari (which I haven’t started yet) and some have it at the way end. Can someone tell me which is better and give their reasons why without spoilers? Thanks

Shinobu starts to become much more prevalent after Bake and watching Kizu just after it will give a better understanding of the relationship between her and Koyomi. I watched it after Bake and really loved it, but I can also see why some people would say to save it for later and let yourself build up hype for it. It's not super necessary to watch after Bake but it's definitely recommended.

See Kizumonogatari as soon as you finish Hanamonogatari being very sincere Since at this point you will enter the Final Season, which seeks to close Araragi's journey as a character, and as Kizu is the first of all, you will begin to understand some of the decisions he made throughout the series. Seeing him last is EXTREMELY unnecessary, the argument of those who say this is "to keep it a mystery", but you will need to see him before the end. Whether you want to focus on Araragi's journey, if so look after Hana, or see him after Bakemonogatari if you want to understand the mystery behind Shinobu right away

The watch order itself isn't disputed, the dispute is which watch order is the best; anime release order, novel release order or chronological order.

Chronologically this is the very beginning but you first must watch Araragi's and Shinobu's relationship so you can understand certain things better.

Just watch the entire franchise in airing order. That's the best order.

I accidentally watched it when i was half way through bakemonogatari and in my opinion because kizumonogatari was so good it made me continue bakemonogatari and i feel i enjoyed it much more knowing the back story of events which happened before bakemonogatari

There are 3 orders:
Light Novel Release Order - Recommended. Monogatari is non-linear by design, but only the original creator should mess with chronology and not random production hell events for the 3 movies (like they did). That means: Bake -> 3 Movies -> Nise -> ...

Anime Release Order - Not recommened. The movies went trough production hell and came out far later than scheduled. Neither Shaft not the Original creator wanted them in that order. This is simply messed up by events outside the story. There's also a minor hiccup regarding the placement of the monkey arc also created by Shaft's bad release management. This order means: Bake -> Nise -> Neko -> ... -> 3 Movies -> ... -> Owari

Chronological Order - Not recommended to beginners. Monogatari is non-linear and watching it linearized can be fun. It however is a complex task and should not be attempted by first time viewers as it seriously hurts the experience intended by the creator. This means: 3 Movies -> Neko -> Bake -> Nise -..

thanks a lot, I’ll go with the LN order. You seem like you know what you’re talking about when it comes to monogatari, any other advice for a first time watcher before I start?

dont miss any dialogue when watching this anime, if you dont want get confused. and in start of every episode there will be some text screen, you can read them one by one for enchance the viewing experience if you wanna do it, but if you dont really wanna read it, its ok Monogatari is still a coherent story without them

Chronological: Kizu>Neko>Bake>Nise
Mayoi Jiangshi>Shinobu Time>Shinobu Mail>Tsubasa Tiger>Nadeko Medusa>Hitagi End>Tsuki>Ougi Formula>All of Sodachi>Koyomi>Owari 2nd>Zoku
Hana is optional.

^^Not a newbie friendly watch order tbh.
Recommended only if uve already finished the series.

My preferred order: Bake>Kizu>Neko>Nise>Monogatari 2nd Season>Tsuki>Owari>Koyomi>Owari 2nd>Zoku
Hana is optional.

^^I think its the best order to understand Shinobu's development as a character.

Ez to miss dialogue & dialogue heavy.
Read as much dialogue as you can.
Screen flashes often come out of nowhere.
Pause it if u miss it, unless if its just says a frame number.

There isn't any dispute bruh, this is intended to be seen right after Bakemonogatari. The monogatari series has a proper undisputed watch order, and that is the order the LN author intended.

Like seriously, Kizu is meant to be seen after Bake. If you skip it, you won't understand anything and will just waste your own time.

Follow the LN order and you will be perfectly fine.

Your first problem is you think monogatari is as complicated as Fate, just watch in release order but the trilogy is a prequel to the main story so you could watch it after Bakemonogatari.

1. Bakemonogatari
2. Kizumonogatari
3. Nekomonogatari kuro
4. Nisemonogatari

You have to watch bakemonogatari first because that's where they actually introduce araragi and explain why are things like this or like that. Kizumonogatari just skips that and goes straight for the action, you won't get much explanation.
