Am i blind and deaf or nothing gets explained [spoilers for 3.0]

Last two movies were okay, you could see that by plot of Shinji's father and NERV, the EVA were fighting the angels, moving closer to (for now) unexplained Human Instrumentality Project.

But this movie just blasted ahead with terms like Lilith, Adam, Lilin and how am i supposed to know what all that means without a single explanation?
What are Infinities?
How can Kaworu be an angel if he's humanoid?
What does "reduced to being 13th angel" mean?
What are the two spears and what are their functions? How can you save the world with them? How do they work?
What does "Shinji's father being king of Lilin" mean?
What are Dead Sea Scrolls?
What's Adams' Vessel?
What are Doors of Guf?
What is the goal of Human Instrumentality Project?

I know there's one movie left, but I feel like there's a thick book I should've read before watching this movie in order to properly understand it.

Have you watched the original series? Some of this stuff isn't "native" to the Rebuild saga and is explained over there.

Outside of that, yeah, most of the new stuff in 3.0 isn't explained well and makes little to no sense.

I hate to rain on your expectations for the 4th movie, but don't go into it expecting an explanation for these things. It's still a good movie, and much better than 3.0, but still does a pretty piss-poor job with explaining stuff.

go back and watch the original plus End of Evangelion then rewatch the rebuilds

But u really need to watch the original series...
The movies mostly expect you to have seen the original series.

I watched the last movie and you were right, doesn't explain anything. But I realized I was more of a psychological character story of Shinji than sci-fi with rules and logic, so I guess the explanation of events was of secondary importance at best.

I watched the original years ago and I forgot most of it, but it was a similar experience towards the end. I just remember how I wanted it to be over because of the deppresive atmosphere, monologues, Shinji being and annoying bitch and not understanding what was going on. I didn't make it to the End of Evangelion, that's probably why I didn't understand. I just filled in the gaps from the Wiki.

I liked Rebuild better than the original because of the ending and Shinji being more tolerable, maybe even relatable.

The people telling you that you need to watch the Original Series to understand - only highlight how terrible the rebuilds are.

Ideally they should be able to function on their own, but they obviously don't because of bad writing.

I watched the original series, end of Eva, and 3/4 rebuild movies and still only understand very little about evangelion. I’m currently reading the manga trying to understand fully- I don’t know how to help you other then you could watch explaining videos and articles or something like that to understand

Futsuki and Kaworu explain most of what has happened in the monologues. The rest will be abundantly clear once you've seen the last film. There's a reason for it being called 3.0+1.0, they really are one film that had to be split up and took forever to be finished.

The rebuilds are explicitly intended to function as an addendum to the original series, not a complete reboot.
