Why are there so many differences between anime and manga? (Spoilers)

As you know, the Higurashi story was continued with the series Gou a while ago. Gou is not a story set in a visual novel. That's why it was rewritten. Anime and manga have recently started to be published. However, there are serious differences between the two.

I've read the last chapter 13 of the manga (except for extra pages). I'll write down the important differences up to this part. There may be minor differences that I overlooked.


Onidamashi-hen

Almost exactly the same. The final scene between Rena and Keiichi in the manga doesn't have any exaggerated blood scenes. Also, the fight scene between the two is more coherent.

What is different is Rika talking to Hanyuu after the events. I don't remember if it was said in the anime but Hanyuu says she doesn't know why things happened again. It wasn't Hanyuu's power that resurrected her. It is important to see that this event was done by someone else.

Watadamashi-hen

There is a difference in the scene where they enter the Furude Shrine in the manga. Keiichi put the severed head of the Oyashiro-sama statue. At that time, he saw the hole in the head of the statue and said, "this hole... was also there from the start, right?" says. If you remember, in the later episodes of the anime, Rika was looking for a sword there.

The next day, Chie sensei says Kimiyoshi has disappeared and the students should not go home alone. Rika leaves the classroom with a sad expression. Keiichi, chasing after her, catches her in the schoolyard. There Rika begins to speak in an adult voice. In the anime, this scene took place while the children were playing ball.

One big difference has to do with the scene where Rika disappears. She was lost at school in the anime. Satoko sounded like she was blaming Keiichi. Then they were looking for him in the schoolyard. In the manga, Satoko calls Keiichi on the phone and says she disappeared. Keiichi, who then goes to Rika's house, searches for her around his house with Rena and Mion. Mion's famous staircase scene takes place there, just like in the original series.

Tataridamashi-hen

Ooishi's stage develops in a completely different way. In the anime, Satoko takes Keiichi home. There Teppei and Keiichi are fighting. After the festival dance, Rika asks people about Tomitake and Takano. Meanwhile, Ooishi comes and kills Shion, Mion and Rika in turn. Rena escapes as she is carried away by the crowd. We see Satoko at the end of the episode. In the manga, Rika is shot by Ooichi's gun while she is dancing on stage. She then shoots at the two men on the stage, she. Mion and Shion, who jump on the stage to save Rika, are shot in turn. While the crowd tries to escape, Keiichi steps onto the stage and tries to save Rika. Satoko tries to stop Keiichi but fails. Keiichi takes the stage and fights Ooishi. At that time, Rika hits Ooishi with her tool, causing her to fall off the stage. Later, Ooishi stands up again and hits Keiichi on the head with a stick. Then he stabs Rika's head to death. Satoko confronts Ooishi and a gunshot is heard. While all these events are happening, a man from the crowd is holding Rena not to go on stage.

Nekodamashi-hen

This arc is not yet finished in the manga, so I will evaluate it until the 13th chapter.

In the anime, we see Hanyuu saying goodbye to Rika. Hanyuu says she left a sword to Rika before she disappeared and this sword can kill someone in the loop. Rika says she will try her luck five more times before she kills herself. Rika is killed in turn by Akasaka, Akane Sonozaki, Kimiyoshi, and Keiichi.

There are no parts with Hanyu in the manga. So Rika doesn't say she will try her luck five times. Rika gets killed more than in the anime.
1. Kimiyoshi and Rika go to the Sonozaki house. The moment they enter the door, Akane Sonozaki cuts off Kimiyoshi's head with a sword. There are the bodies of Mion, Shion, and many Sonozaki yakuza in the room. Ayane plunges the sword into Rika's foot and then into her leg and then cuts off her head.
2. Rika wakes up tied up in a boat. Kimiyoshi throws Rika into the Onigafuchi Swamp after saying lines similar to those in the anime.
3. Rika wakes up tied up in the Sonozaki basement. She is killed after she gets her hands nailed by Shion.
4. Rika wakes up tied to a chair. Aiko Maebara (Keiichi's mother) begs Rika to give her the real Keiichi. We see the bodies of Keiichi and her husband on the floor. (5-10)
From here on we see several deaths in just one picture.
5. Rika is shot in the mouth by Kasai Tatsuyoshi.
6. Rika is killed by students at Hinamizawa Branc School.
7. Rika is disemboweled alive by Sonozaki Oryou.
8. Rika is killed by Rena and cut into six pieces.
9. Rika is shot and killed by Mion along with some of the other students in the class.
10. Rika dies from injuries of unknown origin.
11. Rika wakes up at Angel Mort. She sees Keiichi on his back and runs towards him, crying with joy. But Keiichi hits Rika on the head with a stick. In the following scene, we see the bodies of the customer and Angel Mort waiters lying on the floor, covered in blood. Mion keeps the injured Shion on the ground. Also, Rena lies injured. Unlike the anime, Satoko is not there. Keiichi smashes Mion's head and then Shion's head with his stick. Keiichi also smashes the head of Rena, who tries to stop her on her way to Rika. Rika tells Keiichi that the medicine is in his head, he has to break it up and eat it. Rika remembers Akasaka before she died. She remembers Akasaka saying that he would come and save her.


As a result, I found the manga more successful than the anime. I also found the manga of the original story more successful than the anime, but the events in them were the same. I don't know why Gou is handled differently in anime and manga. What do you think about this subject?
