Is it me or did they totally forgot about Rei Asuka (what a name), the girl who had a psychic connection to Raideen? I feel like it would have been a bit more fitting if she was the one talking to Jinguuji in one of his last scenes instead of Mari. And I have to say the only villain who was at least somewhat interesting was Prince Sharkin who freakin died at half point of the show. The others were really boring.

An interesting first development for mecha. Surely a growing experience for both Nagahama and Tomino who will improve on the ideas presented in this is series. I'll give it a 7 but it's more like a 7.5, it did something different but not enough to earn it an 8.

I loved Raideen's final showdown with Barao, and the way he finished him off was great.
I fully expected Lemuria to die, but I still wasn't expecting how depressing the ending would be.

Overall I enjoyed most of the show. There were some moments where things got a little bit too same-y, particularly in-between episodes 30 and 40, but overall the show did something that was new to the genre (at that time), and it's definitely more story-centric than Mazinger Z was, for example.

It's a shame how certain characters blatantly got put on the bus when the show changed writers. I really liked Rei (I liked her better than Mari), who really made an impact early on in the show, but showed up only once after being written out near the beginning of Nagahama's run. Everyone who went on her search with her returned, but Rei was never seen again even during the final two episodes, when it would have made sense to have her there considering she was closest with Jinguuji .

Also Ponta was way cuter than that lizard.

Well, out of all the Super Robot series that I have seen up to this point. Reideen probably has to be the most generic one. Getter Robo was pretty bland, but at least it had more interesting villains. In any case, the story finally picked up at the last 10 or so episodes, so things started developing, but at this late stage in the series, I kind of really didn't care for any of the payoffs because the rest of it was very one-dimensional. At least with Mazinger, you had multiple stages of growth and development for the main characters and the mecha throughout its run, not just at the very end.

It looks like for me Gatchaman is still the reigning champion, oh well. Over all, I give it a 4/10. Its below average and has crossed into the threshhold of nearly unwatchable unless your a hard core super robot fan.

Now at long last, it's time to start the Tado Nagahama Romance Trilogy.
