A lot of so-called Godzilla fans I see online always cry about Godzilla lacking screentime in various things. The Legendary movies, Shin Godzilla, here, even in some of the older ones sometimes. When you have something as iconic and established as Godzilla, no matter what you do with it, it will rub some group the wrong way. The people at Bones and Orange created a bold reimagining of everything Godzilla, but it still feels very respectful to the tradition of the franchise with how it handles and retools so much iconography and creatures of the Showa era, even giving a lot of tribute to characters from critically slammed movies like vs Megalon and All Monsters Attack.

But so many people dismiss SP with the same old complaint of the lack of Godzilla. Godzilla is not a character, it is an event. I thought Singular Point understood that better than any other depiction of Godzilla I've seen. The slow burn build-up to that final Ultima form and the total devastation it brings was executed so well, and it's such a shame so few people seem able to understand and appreciate that from the score here and some articles I've read. If you want a kaiju series where the kaiju is the character, watch Gamera (and honestly, the Gamera Heisei Trilogy is better than any Godzilla movie). Godzilla never was like that nor does it need to. Saving Godzilla for the finale only makes every scene with it all the more impactful. For any Western media fans, it's like how Agent Cooper doesn't come back in Twin Peaks: The Return until episode 16. You need to savour it, which totally goes against Netflix' binge culture. Ironic.

"So-called Godzilla fans?"

Yeah, F you to anyone who was expecting Godzilla to have more screentime in a show literally titled GODZILLA, right? WHAT IDIOTS! We're not SMART like YOU, otherwise we'd all appreciate such an incredibly well developed plot, right?

"The slow burn build-up to that final Ultima form and the total devastation it brings was executed so well" It's just copying that scene from Shin Godzilla.

" Saving Godzilla for the finale only makes every scene with it all the more impactful. " Oh YES, he was SO IMPACTFUL that his only relevance in the show, is that him being on Earth will somehow cause the Universe to implode, for reasons never specified. What an amazing plot point.

I mean, I love the show but asking for more Godzilla was completely understandable in the case of SP. Not enough of em being "The Catastrophe" he was supposed to be.

I definitely agree, just because the show is called "Godzilla Singular Point" that doesn't mean Godzilla had to appear every god damn minute.

I was way more interested in the different kaijus that were appearing and how the fuck they were going to solve the mess. If you want to see more Godzilla, just watch one of the 24 films featuring him, for fuck's sake. Or even the Anime Trilogy, which is way way way more terrible and, what do you know, features more Godzilla than this show.

as they complained about Godzilla 2014 and Shin Godzilla, they also complain about the anime trilogy and S.P.

These pseudo critics have never understood that Godzilla appears little for the majority of films, in the godzilla 54 we see him only a few minutes.
The best godzilla movies have always been those where little appears, the human point of view makes everything more realistic and dark.

the best showa.
Godzilla 54, here godzilla appears little (3-6min).

the best heisei.
Godzilla vs Biollante, even here it appears little (8-12min).

the best millennium ... er here they are all mediocre or just enough, and in fact they are the most appreciated by the new generations because they have so many explosions and bad writings

I liked it, glad I got to see a Godzilla anime, since I never cared about King Kong, Godzilla, or any other Over Popularised monster.
