Zombieland Saga is not perfect but it has set a new bar for its genre.

We all agree that Idol anime are usually Japanese versions of chick-flicks.
Low quality in literally every department except sound and even then it is either cliché or cringe.

What I mean to say is that the genre has been a stagnant niche mostly enjoyed by Japanese people.

Zombieland Saga blows everything away.
If future Idol and music anime are at least half of the quality of Zombieland Saga S1+S2 then they are watchable.

Yes it has questionable 3D at times but hey it is not the year 2077.
9/10 show.

Yeah, no. Like, what? I'm glad you like zombie humor and eccentric producers, but this show is not "changing the game". Feel free to never watch another idol anime ever again

well here we have an example of said blind fan niche dweller...
The same as the series is trying to revitalize Saga prefecture in the show, it also revitalizes the stagnant swamp that is the Idol anime genre.

If we talk about shounen, there are always the top 3, there are new bombshells appearing every moment like Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen.
Same can be said for the shojo, seinen and other genres.

"Idols" are popular in Japan, yes. But "Idol anime" does not share that success.
if we could compare it to an also weak niche genre in japanese anime, then "horror" genre comes to mind.

While here in the West we can enjoy horror in movies and games of very high quality, the anime industry "horror" genre has been severely lacking.
If people talk about good horror anime they usually say "Another", Shiki and Higurashi. But even these shows lack the "oompf".
And don't even call shows like Tokyo Ghoul, Deadman Wonderland, Parasyte, Promised Neverland or the failed Junji Ito Collection (2018) as horror. Not even once did they scare or made me jump. Not even 14 year old live laugh love white girls are scared of those shows.

The creators of Zombieland Saga fused these two "struggling" genres and got this show. It is not particularly scary and horror is used for comedy but it perfectly shows that you can do more with the genre than simply throwing blood and gore at us like Elfenlied or Gantz do.

The songs are amazing and well-crafted both to reflect the personalities and arcs of the story as well as are technically well constructed. (minus the 3D cgi aspect of course)

When you say Idol anime, what comes to mind? The ancient Macross series?
Another aspect of Zombieland Saga is that they mix music genres and produce great tracks. While any other Idol shows falls into the usual sugar cutesy jap whimpering/screeching. The Idol industry is so stagnant that they do not allow any other voices except the usual cliche. Tell me why are there no womanly voices like Yugiri? Someone like Lady Gaga or Lorde in Japanese Idol groups?
They industry is gatekeeping out of fear of trying something new...

Zombieland Saga breaks those norms.

Each character is well crafted and different from each other, even Tae Yamada the zombie default is translated into English as "Jane Doe" aka unidentified corpse.
I am a centrist and hate extremist movements like the SJW, but I have to admit that having the first idol trans character Lily is progressive, also breaking the norms. Male idol groups, female idol groups, a mix is not allowed in Japan, that is also old-fashioned.
Reminds me of the topic that every character represents a decade in Idol history, that too has been intentionally designed this way to show us the differences.
Everyone knows LoveLive and Idolmaster but what about Creamy Mami and Kirarin? And what about the history of the genre and the industry?

Zombieland Saga is exactly "changing the game" setting a new quality bar that other shows, especially in the Idol genre, should strive for. They can't sit on their laurels and ride coattails of washed up Idols who became seiyuus for those shows.
Even ignoring the Idol and horror aspects, Zombieland Saga is a definitive 9/10 show on equal to MyHeroAka.

I ain't an Idol anime fan but I at least know the history and struggles of the genre. Being a niche dweller does not make your opinion or words hold any value if you are an extremist fanatic.
Be mature enough to realize the flaws and call them out, nobody is forbidding you to enjoy the genre, but I do not have to say that to you so you stop feeling insecure FailmnX.

......okay. I was just wondering why you would call ZLS "revolutionary" when there haven't been any other series trying to copy its "success" in the three years since season 1 aired. What has changed in idol anime? Just off the top of my head, in the past year we've gotten Lapis Re:Lights, 22/7, and Idoly Pride. They're all in the vein of Love Live. Speaking of which, we've also gotten two Love Live series, and Nijigasaki has a second season scheduled for next year.

Where are the idol anime that are doing bold new things? Although, I think the more accurate question to ask is where are the idol anime that appeal to YOU? Because that's all this topic is - "I like ZLS. Idol anime should be more like ZLS". I suppose if I'm going to peruse these forums, I should get used to hyperbole and pretentiousness.

The thing is that huge genres like shounen that become stagnant are instantly shaken by fierce competition. Recent shows like Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen have reminded the genre how it is done.
Shows like DBSuper, Boruto, Fire Force and Black Clover simply are not enough for todays audience that cultivated its taste for years.
There is a level of quality that is not that hard to reach, yet many still refuse to adapt and choose to "play it safe" in the industry.

Just look at the isekai genre, dozens of them are pumped out every season. Most of them are garbage but still the industry pushes onwards. Because for every Master of Ragnarok and Smartphone Isekai there is a Konosuba.

In the Idol anime genre, there are simply not that many fans, especially here in the west. You can't disagree that genres like shounen and shoujo are much more popular than Idol anime.
The industry has a very loyal but small fanbase that they strive to please (talking about the one in Japan. Japan absolutely does not care for the opinions of Westerners). Westerners do not buy the merch and do not attend local concerts, as well as these Japanese idol groups not going on international tours.

We, here in the West, are at the mercy of local fans that set the tone.
They naturally are in a bubble and reinforce preexisting flaws with no intent of fixing them or adapting in order to gain the competitive advantage.
Basic business 101.

just compare the idol shows from the past to the current ones. Nowadays the genre is riddled with repeating cliché.
People start thinking that Japanese talk and behave like in anime. Have you seen actual Japanese people? Without the fake cutesiness?
The idol genre has embraced that and made it part of their culture, effectively locking the genre and gatekeeping hard.

Why else do you think people have the idea that idol genre is only enjoyable for girls. Many even rank it worse than shoujo and yaoi!
Zombieland Saga breaks the norms in showing that idol anime can be enjoyed by all. Every girl in the show is different and various types of women are represented and celebrated, not only the cutesy pewdiepie screeching girls.
If you and the industry had it your way, then every character would be a different hair-colored Lily Hoshikawa (Zombie #6).
How can you people enjoy a band of 7+ members that have the exact same voice, exact same personality on top of the repeating stagnant cliché?

Zombieland Saga is revolutionary. Yet the changes will happen gradually over time due to the genres size. Just because it is no explosive civil war in France event, does not make it not revolutionary.

Love Live is not bad but it represents all that is wrong with the industry (idols and anime).

You should stop being a pretentious little princess, get off your high horse and cease gatekeeping.

.......all I did was point out that your claim was terribly grandiose. All YOU'VE done is make too very long rant posts that essentially boil down to two things: 1) I was right; idol anime AREN'T changing as a result of ZLS and 2) you insulting me for being a defender of "status quo" idol anime, despite me never giving an opinion on ANY series named in this topic.

But I guess you got what you wanted - you successfully baited someone to take umbrage with your statement so that you could attack them, bash idol anime, and laud ZLS, KnY, and JJK - so there is no need for us to continue
