Does anyone think this movie is heavily misunderstood?

As the title says, I feel most don't get the movie. but there are indeed glaring flaws. I wont deny that.

I think most people hyperfixate on the awkward Oedipus complex moments. It’s got good art and music. The plot and pacing stumbles a bit, but still isn’t bad. Thematically, I think it tells a somber story of how unconditional a mother’s love can be, regardless of the conditions surrounding her. Kinda reminds me of Wolf Children where both mothers are really willing to sacrifice it all for their kids

It’s Mari Okada’s directional debut. So it’s bound to have some flaws. But I myself find this movie to be the best I’ve ever seen, it’s maybe cuz it easily sways my heart I like it a lot. And the plot is good too.
At first I was sceptical about setting but the animation is nice also. At the end I cried and I loved it

Honestly I thought the same too. I thought the movie was very similar to wild children in how a mother will put everything on the line for their children. I but I thought that the film as a whole was great plus I judge these kinds of movies by how emotional I get. I think it’s a hallmark of a great film to make someone cry and this took home the bacon for me.
