After the war, Maquia leaves Erial to live his own life. The same goes for Leilia and her daughter. Why though? (Genuinely asking)

Based on my understanding, it’s because their existence with the mortals will only cause suffering to both sides. Would you want to wake up everyday watching your kids have more and more wrinkles than you or you having more wrinkles than your parents? By leaving them, they can have normal lives like everyone else.

Iorphian are taught to avoid any human relationship which is what Leilia believes. Maquia is more open to it even if she knows that she will suffer but she also can’t totally ignore the suffering she brings to the mortals. This is why Maquia leaves Ariel when he’s an adult while Leilia leaves Medmel as soon as possible.
Truth is absolute but human perception of truth is always relative.

It's given on the start of the movie that they basically can't love outside their clan or village. But she did loved someone as his son , raised him big enough to be on his own, after the war if she would've been living with them she would surely cause uneasiness for them , as yk she stays young whole others die and she would've been suffered all along with them

I would say it is more for Ariel's benefit. He was trying to be independent back when they were at the mining city, but the real turning point was when he chose to defend the city vs reuniting with his mom. While they certainly could have lived together, he was already starting his own family and wanted the autonomy as well as a full adult. Even we who have normal lifespans would want to move out for many reasons. A helicopter mom that lives longer than you is a scary thought too even if Maquia may not be.

The scene in the beginning of the movie where the dog died is a good example of why. The dog only lives so long relative to humans, this is portrayed in misery of the humans when it later died of old age. This difference in lifespan can also be compared to Maquia and Ariel. Them being together would harm both of them, this is also explained in the beginning of the movie when Maquia felt alone and got told by an elderly that she should never love someone outside their own race.

But to be honest, this movie tries really hard to push this difference in lifespan. It does it well but it makes no sense why Maquia only met Ariel again on his death bed. Nonetheless I enjoyed the movie.

She was captured by Baiera midway through the film, which means that the other countries were also looking to capture Iorphians. Staying with Ariel meant that she would put their family in danger should anyone attempt to capture her again. Not only that, but Krim said she was pregnant at the time, so her child could have been captured as well. Edit: apparently the pregnancy was a mistranslation.

It was for everyone's safety, but I agree it doesn't make sense that the only time she would visit was when Ariel was on his deathbed. I would have liked to see her visit them a few times and get to know the daughter and grandkid; but I guess the author decided their story was told and didn't need any more in between.

Replying to an old post, I know, but since I just watched the movie here it is anyway: who's to say she didn't visit him between when she parted and when she visits him on his deathbed? His daughter isn't overly surprised to see her, and while there isn't a ton of familiarity as if she's greeting a long-lost relative, I didn't get the sense that Erial's daughter only saw her as a newborn and then again as an adult. I figured that she may have visited rather infrequently and perhaps privately... but who knows, I guess we can fill in the blanks as we want to on that one.
