I'm curious if the whole novel is animated. If it's not, how much of it is?

While I didn't read much of the completed fan translation of the novels, going off the ending of the novel v/s the anime it looks like all of it. It's safe to watch the anime for a complete story, quite an ending too!

Yup, at least from going over it high level. The novel expands upon some details but the ending is otherwise the same as is the final moment of the story.
