Why did Moriarty "test" Sherlock by directing him to solve a crime he has planned? It makes no sense. Why give him a free hint that someone is after him and a chance to gather incriminating information? Criminals should maintain a low profile, not toy with detectives by giving them hints on purpose. Instead, what Moriarty should have done is leave Sherlock alone and only deal with him if it becomes necessary due to circumstances.

You'll find out next week. In the manga, they went with Moriarty's motivation first for why he's doing this then focus on Holmes, but are doing the opposite here to make Moriarty more "mysterious". Under Spoiler William's motivation:

Hmm. It's good that there is that much thought behind it, but I am still a bit sceptical about whether it would work.

I will see how they'll present it though.

The plot is ambitious but this is an eye candy-shounen you read as a guilty pleasure with some bogus alternative history (that are clearly treating the British class differences as if they were in ancient Japan or China should be pretty obvious). Don't expect some breathtaking philosophical masterpiece.
It's not just the Moriarty brothers on it. Check out Albert's thread question. Big spoilers ahead:

Thanks for the constructive replies.

Yeah, I don't usually expect anime to be realistic. In this one, we have already seen impossibly accurate predictions, like the plan with Enders working perfectly and Sherlock guessing William's profession. And we have seen nobles who are comically evil in an absurdly over-the-top way, even openly admitting it to other people.

This is still one of the best anime this whole year, and I am enjoying it.

It's my pleasure. It's enjoyable with a likable fun cast. Some nobles will get more comically evil, but, warning a spoiler content to come (hopefully)...

I don't know if this was pointed out, but the Baron episode (ep 4) cut a significant chunk of the politics and economy side (understandable because of running time). The Baron wasn't a busybody who liked the brothers and was on amicable terms but

This show sometimes amazes me with its stupidity.

Your name was written in blood, Sherlock, so you must be the culprit, off to jail with you.

I think it's pretty obvious gregson was the reason he was framed so quickly, their enmity is kind visible and things like that can happen in real life, especially on that time where im sure there were less laws that protect suspects from crimes.

I mean even sherlock himself states how dumb it is, i don't think it's valid to fault the series for that when its that self-aware...

Anyway, good episode, just binge watched the series to this point starting yesterday, i'm enjoying it so far.

Moriarty and Sherlock really bring out the best in each other. Really fun adaptation of this iconic duo. I'm enjoying this show much more now that Sherlock is here - Moriarty had it too easy >:)

Props to the writer of the story for retaining the retarded police from Sherlock Holmes stories. Interesting what Moriarty will do about Holmes honestly, he's a threat for his plans.

This was real joke of real Holmes abilities, either they are making him dumb and comedy relief character on purpose or they really fail to portray him right. The deductions on the crime scene were nothing of ordinary and he didn't even mentioned how the victim couldn't write the name next to him with his right hand (try writing something like this with your hand so close to the body - he would need to do that with his other hand).

Also, I'm not really sold on their first-name basis - whole Sherlock/John instead of Holmes/Watson is awkward and feels really out of place. It's almost like the author of the manga thought he could write such character better than original author but failed miserably in doing so. Not to mention that there was never written Sherlock but german RACHE on the wall, meaning 'revenge'. So I wonder if they change his story completely as they probably have to link whole case to Moriarty. But there is still wedding ring he found there so it would be probably some mix of that.

All in all, I'm not really impressed much by this introduction.. it really felt like they are just crying 'LOOK WE HAVE FAMOUS DETECTIVE HERE' rather than showing any detective work which the viewer can guess. Really wonder how is the next episode then.

"Something bigger is at work here" or they might just be framing you buddy. I do think his first scene with Watson was cool though. His logic for figuring what Watson's job was was believable enough. I don't understand why Holmes would automatically assume there is someone telling the killer what to do. It is almost like the writers told him lol.

AYO IM BEGINNING TO LIKE THIS SERIES!!! MORIARTY VS. SHERLOCK HOLMES!!1 Honestly, the buildup was quite worth it, I went into this series fully expecting it will only contain the crimes of Moriarty, but here we are, a brand new, polar opposite of him, adding juxtaposition to light and darkness.

Well the first part of the episode was really enjoyable, Miss Hudson is a fun and cute woman. Love her interaction with Holmes, shit was hilarious xD. Then, we meet John. A medic who is now living together with Holmes.
Sadly after that Holmes get suspected for murder. Obvly he wasn't the one who murdered him. Thus they took him to the scene were the murder took place and let him investigate it.

And that's when they find out that there's a mastermind behind it, and YES! It's WILLIAM FOR SURE! Oh god, I love how everything is connecting to each other. This is crazy. And William is just testing him..

Will he invite him into his team? Or will they be enemies.. Interesting!

Hm, since I have read some Sherlock's books, I have to say, there are some incongruities.

1- Sherlock calls "John" almost all times Watson (but I guess they did this so Japanese audience would believe them to be close friends, since in Japan you only call someone by their first name when they're close to you). This incongruity is tolerable.

2- Inspector Lestrade hates Sherlock so much he would never accept his demands unless he has not a clue about whats happening. Don't know if this was an anime situation, but on the show Lestrade helped him so prompted.... I don't like this much.

Besides, watching the crime from the crime solvent it's nice.

Sherlock isn't bad but I prefer Moriarty going on his monologues about getting rid of the evil rich people.
Miss Hudson was cute, more of her please.

Scotland yard seems quite incompetent, no wonder Moriarty plans always work out so far.

Kinda risky for Moriarty to test Sherlock as keeping a low profile for future cases would've been better in my opinion.

Review en Español and English

Good episode, Interesting that James is about to test if Sherlock is a threat, the problem with this is that it is already giving away that there is a mastermind behind everything but maybe that is what James wants and see who is better. It's incredible that this Watson and it seems that the landlady has something for Sherlock. PS: this was a comical episode compared to the previous ones that does not ruin what we have been seeing
