I get that the story may be confusing, the characters may not be well developed, but I feel like it was a film that dealt with a big message and did it well.

first the story:
The story is about Nazuna trying to run away from her family to get a breath of fresh air. However, her parents tracked her down and took her back. However, through this, Norimichi god hold of the glass ball which is able to create an alternate "what if"(mo shi mo in romaji) world where Norimichi can change the outcome of the events (kind of like Subaru in re:zero except Norimichi doesn't go back to copy of the real world).

my interpretation:
everything after Norimichi threw the glass ball at the fireworks poster up untill the scene before the roll call at the end happened in a copy world(or a copy of the copy world, kinda like inception). and when the glass ball finally shattered, it showed the main characters all the different paths they went through in all the differnet copy worlds that were created.
The roll call scene at the end was in the real world, and because both nazuna and Norimichi are missing, it implies that at the end, the two of them did decide to take a gambit at living on their own.

message addressed in movie:
when we find ourselves looking back into our past, we other fall into one after another of "what if": what if I did ask that wirl out, what if I got there on time, what if I did something then... rather than be trapped in eternal regret, why not take the plunge now, and see what life brings and be free from the beast of "what if".

That's a very good idea. I was thinking more on the lines of that being the real world and as they moved from world to world, they both ended up trapped in the last one.

my conclusion of the "mirror" world is from the different properties of the fireworks, but I can see how ppl can conclude that it's time travel

In my opinion they can be trapped in that world..
But what I didn't like are about the matching memories, the only one who remember the events is the boy.. Bcz he's the only one who throwed the ball..
And when Nazuna (the girl) asked / wanted to throw the ball.. They jumped to the sea and the boy the one throw the ball..

With this in mind..
The only one who still have a "conscious" from the real world is just the boy..
The girl is like an illusion created from the ball.. and ofc the whole world is also an illusion..

The creator wants to tell us a message "to obey your parents and not to leave your home".. And on the other side " The parents must also heard wants their kids feeling about moving and married again"..
But IDK what the hell is happend on the ending.. IDK what is the conclusion..
The creator might be created it just for us to imagine another conclusion.. (and it doesn't really matter anymore)

You just made the movie more understandable thank you. I can now rest and score it 6-7
