----------------------------------------
This situation is such a tragedy. It's odd to use the word brilliant to describe something so sad and dark but I think it is. We have a complex web of abuse and a family lashing out at each other in the most extreme way possible. Nobody's conscience is clear, and the two doing the most gruesome and hateful acts have the most sympathetic reasons for them. Morita attempted to get out of this with no more death, only to end with Hidemine stabbing his own son in the throat with the younger brother he looked after in the same room. It's so bleak, a worst-case scenario that unfortunately came to fruition. A warning of sorts. And the amount that has gone into this, a two sided, multi-layered plot with the most meaningful focus on supporting characters I think we've had, I am not surprised that this arc is beloved. Although I have said in the past that this is the kind of series that I find predictable and fun but can tend to feel largely forgettable, I don’t think this arc falls into that territory.

When Kunio was introduced as being someone who would rather die than take from others, it evoked an interesting question about why he came here today, one of if he could be as hateful as his murderous brother. Although it may have been a lapse of judgment, by grabbing Morita, I had to think of it as a potential protest to keep him safe. Morita showed his moral heart, he rejected to kill, he kept his promise to Gin even if it limited his chance at survival, he believed in the redemption of Katsuhiro, and just maybe that moral heart is shared in Kunio; even after all of this. I just really hope he doesn’t blame himself.

Shoutout to Tanaka for sneaking in the blade by the way, she was already a sneaky traitor after all!
