Well, practically the only sensei's work that's being published regularly and aims for a longer storyline than her usuall one-shot works. This topic is supposed to serve as a place to discuss this manga, its ups and downs and your impressions of it. |

Hmm. Can you pull out few dwl links? Haven't heard about this work (unless it's that one, to which belongs also Real Love from Yuri Shimai 5) and, admittedly, am to lazy to look for it on my own (don't you love final two weeks of university semesters, when you don't even remember your own stupid name anymore, lol?). |

Yap ^^. No problem. Here are the links to two pages, you can download the series from for sure: http://yurizuki.net/server/yuri/ (direct) or http://makimaki.110mb.com (torrent) ~ Girl Friends @To all: Just to inform, the links too all (to me) known sensei's works are posted on the club profile information section (when you open the club page, the top one), so if any of you want to download something, those sites are guaranteed to work (and if they're not working, just send me a message and I'll make it work ^^). |

For a yuri addict like me, no yuri over a long period of time could lead to severe withdrawal symptoms resulting in bizzare behaviour, nervousness, lack of concentration and eventually insanity. What I want to say is that some people from above are trying to kill me since it was a long time ago, that I've finished reading the last raw doujinshi I could find (depleted other resources a priori this stage), and my endurance is nering it's limit. Since waiting for the new chapter was killing me so much, I've decided to give the series one more go straight from the beginning. Well, here's my opinion: I like it. Seriously love it. This show has got an enormous potential, that I'd hate to see go to waste. Unfortnately from the current point of the story, there are several possible outcomes, some of which could ruin my opinion on this manga. The first thing that really bothers me is Akko's former boyfriend. As mentioned in the manga, she was drunk when she lost her virginity to him, and so judging by this, it may be possible that the reason for her attraction to Mari might be resentment and hatred towards males. BUT if this is the case, than her feelings towards Mari would not be genuine and this would really ruin the plot. Also, this is just wishful thinking, I hope that in fact nothing happened between her and her boyfriend... maybe some misunderstanding 'cause she was drunk, or she just told her friends a lil' lie 'cause she wanted to be cool... It would really piss me off if she was 'dirtied' by some punk, and not Mari *evil_grin*. The thing that made me love Hitomi X Nana story was that it was genuinely pure. Their love, although difficult at start was the real deal, evolution of their relationship was also lovable and overall it was heartwarming. This was the least I expected from Girl Friends, only in a larger format. However if my suspicions came true, and the fact that Akko slept with that guy was true, than it would break my heart and it would take a lot of improvement for the manga to catch up to her other stories. Actually this happened in one of sensei's other stories: Amai Kuchibiru. One of the two main heroines slept with a guy and only later realised that she liked the other girl more than him. This was the reason, why I hated this one-shot as much as I loved it, cause it only prooved that she didn't love the other girl seriously. She took love lightly, as a simple good for consumption, and that's what really pissed me off.... Ugh back to girl friends. (most of the previous part was only to vent my frustration). The story's taking a strange direction. Usually, sensei's stories depict relationships in a kinda romantic, gentle way rather than focusing on looking real. On the other hand, I get the feeling that she's trying to make Girl Friends more real-like than her other stories and I'm not sure I'm gonna like it. Even though I say this, can't wait to read another chapter ^^. Well, nothing's lost 'till it's lost, so horay for another chapter ^^. |

I think everyones afraid of her lost of virginity... but I think and hope, that she has lied. she MUST have!!! :) well I dont mind a realistic story, as long as after they build up a romantic relationship, she will focus on its progress like she did with Hitomi x Nana. btw, does anybody know the interval of the releases? was the longer break an exception? |

IMO it's quite obvious that the thing we all fear to be lost to some degenerated homo stupiditus testosexus wasn't actually lost and remains where it should be, waiting for the right hands to take it off (or through, lol...?). In the end, Sweet Lips is doujinshi (understand as hentai oneshot) - which I'm fairly dissapointed with, by the way - so some things simply must be there (haven't seen doujinshi without a dick yet, even though not neccessarily attached to a man, rofl). However if you would look at Morinaga's non-hentai works from Yuri Shimai and Yuri Hime magazines it's quite obvious that the plot development is different. I believe Girl Friends is the same and therefore everything is going to clear up in few chapters (maybe even as soon as the next one, even though the next chapter should be imo titled "Confession", quite obviously 8p). |

Heh, after reading chapter 12, I feel both relieved and bothered at the same time. The reason?... Well, in the end everything seems to have turned out all right, so all the worrying about Akko loosing her virginity was nothing but an annoying superstition, yet the fact that Mari still doesn't understand that what she feels towards Akko is a genuine love si really bothering me. I was quite sure that she's already realised that her feelings towards Akko are NOT exactly what a normal person would call friendship. And errr... well i thought the situation she's gotten herself into with that guy is.... kinda... well I just wanna kill him... 'cause I really hate bastards who trick girls and make them drunk only to have their way with 'em... Hope the other two girls end up together as well and something horrible happens to that guy. Anyway, what I really wanted to tell was that the story's way too slow. A'right, some pretty important things happened in this chapter but if I am supposed to wait for 'em to get together, at least I wanna some improvement in their relationship, not just some kind of inner struggle that doesn't count as anything. |

Well, I don't bother the slow pace, actually I prefer it, so we could have more development. The only problem is that it is just only one chapter per month. |

No freaking way!!!!... MARI GOT A BOYFRIEND!... Weeeell at least we have a chance to see Akko realise her feelings towards Mari, or better, we might actually find out that she's been in love with Mari all along and only barely managed to keep it secret from her... (overexcited). But what really bothers me is the fact that Mari actually got together with a seemingly likeable guy, whose type tends to be really annoying in mangas where you just can't stand the heroine getting together with someone other then the other lead... which is the case now. I feel sorry for him but seriously... if I see any more development coming that way I'll seriously consider dropping GF for good 'cause I ain't waiting every single month-two for another freaking chapter to see a girl going out with a guy in a YURI manga... fuc|<... (sfx:seriously_pissed)... |

Saeai... take it easy... :D As you said, nows the time for Akko to come to her senses. And that guy really looks like a dope, but Im happy (for now) that there will be some development, although in the wrong direction. I only hope, that Mari will not go to far with that wimp. I HATE it, when someone from my favorite couple is defiled by the wrong person... |

Omfg, PHUCK! This chapter was amazing. I've always been a Morinaga Milk fan, but after this chapter I'd tattoo the name on my forearm (good thing there's no tattoo studio near my place :D ). This is maybe the best single chapter I've ever read because it's so carefully set up YET so surprising. Mari's reactions during the make up applying were great, the panels, the writing, everything was awesome. And then BAM! Unexpected, but not out of the blue. Well, I'm sure you get my point. :D Plus that "Don't you think it's unfair (....)? How would you feel if someone you liked would go with you out of pity?" "Happy". "Eh?" "I would be happy... if it were because of pity, if it were because of _anything_. " = Morinaga knows how to depict honest, raw emotions better than most mangaka I can remember now (Biased as I am at the moment. :D). And I was wrong in thinking Akko was the one to make a move. I'm so glad I was wrong, Akko making a move because she finally Realizes Her Feelings would have been cliched. |

Chapter 15: well, it's not like the chapter itself was bad or anything of the sort, but truth to be told, I anticipated something completely different... From my point of view, what we're going to get served now for the next few chapters is gonna be the same old story we've been reading since chapter 1, only with the difference that this time around, Akko's gonna be the one falling in love. (oh, well there may be some interventions 'caused by the fact that Mari's got a boyfriend now but well... you got my point right?) And that's exactly what I'm afraid of.... another 1-2 or maybe even 3 volumes composed of (mostly) trouble for the two of them, and no kisses, no sweet atmosphere, no yuri. Well it's not like the actual thing's gonna be as bad as I say it is, but being a lil' bit sceptical can only make you happier, 'cause in the end things end up better than you thought they would (or in the worst case, the thing you thought's gonna happen comes true...) :P |

I think it would be cute if it shows Akko starting to fall in love with Mari. But what im afraid of is that it might take too long considering the release time of each chapter =[ |

Hmmm... just as I thought... Chapter 16 ~ Well the point is... is there any point in making this story so annoyingly stretched and overly evasive of the important issue? How long do we have to wait to finally see them together?... I feel a great disturbance in yuri... and that disturbance carries a name: no yuri 'till the final chapter. Considering the current development, it's likely that the only real chance to see any yuri (yuri = a relationship between two girls/women without any presence of a male (meaning that the relationship already exists, not that it is in a process of development)) will be in the last volume, maybe even later (one of the last chapters of the final volume). I get the feeling that Morinaga-sensei is throwing a fit because of something trying to deprive us of any hope we may have left ._. ... I read yuri to see yuri, not to see "yuri to be" or "yuri under construction". x( It might be true that seeing Akko geting jealous was pretty fulfilling but it's not the point, because in the end everything got into even bigger mess than it's already been in. Akko's searching for a new BF and Mari has given up on Akko... how much worse could it possibly get? It's going to take at least another 10 chapters for Akko to even be able to realise that she's in love with Mari and to be able to confront her with it. Sh!t this I'm just elevating the anger inside me... This series is simply not what I thought it to be... -2 points (temporary 'till the anger fades away) |

I tend to disagree. I love long, drawn-out stories where nothing actually happens for several chapters, because it just makes it all the mose fulfilling when something finally does happen. |

To be honest, I love the series, but I find myself asking "Why?" a lot. The story line is fairly typical of shoujo romance, I am hardly shocked or excessively titillated by lesbianism., so what is its appeal? |

Fact is the chapters after The Moment of Truth could have been more compressed. Way too many panels showing totally useless stuff in chapter 17. Slow is one thing, pages with nothing but Akko's shopping trip with some random chick are another thing. Nexist, what I like about this manga - well, liked till recently - were the pacing, the art (and I don't mean just the character's looks, the angles, the framing, at times it's really amazing) and how real some of the dialogue sounded. I posted about this somewhere but I am too lazy to search now - one of my fav moments is the later half of the chapter where Mari confesses. That "I wouldn't care" is maybe THE most truthful-sounding line I've ever read in a manga romance. But this is coming from a guy who dislikes romance both in manga /anime and in live action productions of any kind, so I'm not as familiar with shoujo romance as you probably are. I also liked some of the panels there, especially that one with half of Mari's face and the ceiling, since that wasn't really Akko's POV, it was a "mood" pannel. Since I find romance manga repetitive to the extreme and just generally boring, a few lines and panels that 'jump out' are enough to answer your "why?" for me. ;) |

The suspense is good but depending on how long this manga will go on, it might get resolved in a couple chapters, like 5 or 6. Anyways, nanaxhitomi is a good yuri-jammed manga but girlfriends has a bit more plot and depth. Believe me, I want the matter to end quick too but it doesn't look like it any time soon. I hope it continues even after they finally love each other - if it ends up as a sad ending, I swear I'll rip up the manga book(s) |

Chikane-chan said: Ugh!! Why did those girls encourage Mari to get back with her ex boyfriend!! Akko stop her!!!! Anticipating a new chapter soon, I reread 1-23 recently. (Then started searching for MM related websites and wound up here!) Anyway, it was specifically Sugi who encouraged Mari to get back with him. She appeared to see Mari reach out to Akko, then pull her hand back. Even when Akko asked Sugi's advice "about a friend", it was clear that Sugi knew what was going on and firmly told Akko to make sure the relationship didn't go in "that" direction. The reason I'm pointing out it was Sugi is because I'm curious whether anyone else thinks she's got feelings for Tamamin that she's in denial about? I don't think I'm just seeing yuri couples everywhere since Kano is clearly attached to her boyfriend and Taguchi seems to pretty firmly want a boyfriend as well. But Sugi seems unable to commit to even the same list of guys she's dating. Not to mention she'll half strip and kiss Tamamin at the drop of a hat. And while it's a cliche that someone who vehemently is against same-sex relationships is in the closet, still, I have to wonder. (added later) There was also the "frozen in shock" panel after Tamamin looked radiant in the flower dance. There was a little aside that Sugi was bad at dancing, but would that really explain it? |

Well, chapter 25 is out. It's good, though surprising that Akko took the initiative, even to the point of accusing Mari of lying. Since she now realizes Mari's feelings and that Mari doesn't realize Akko's feelings, it's just a matter of time till it's sorted out. (And unlike Hitomi and Nana, in Morinaga's other series, Akko lives alone much of the time!) It was amusing that Akko thought Mari rushed out because she was mad that Akko was lying on her. But given that earlier Mari was looking at Akko's legs, and the expressions Mari had while Akko was on top of her, I think Mari was close to climaxing and ran out before it became obvious. Poor innocent Akko :-) She even went out in the night air to cool off... |

After reading 26, I feel like things have come full circle. Chapter 1 opened with Akko taking the initiative to ask Mari to be her friend. Now she's the one to ask that they go out together as lovers. While I still think Sugi has feelings beyond friendship for Tamamin, it seems pretty hopeless. I didn't catch it the first time, but after rereading 26, it looks like she was the one to say that Tamamin was part of the staff. That makes it look like she's ashamed to admit that Tamamin is her friend, because of the cosplaying. If she really feels like that, I think a relationship would be doomed. And, I think it has to be said, Naru-chan is hot. Check out the first page of the chapter 3 omake, not to mention various of her other appearances. |

Wow, it ended. Ever since I first found a raw of this manga I was impressed, at first with only the art, then later with the story as well. I'm not exaggerating when I say I've read through the first 15ish chapters about a dozen times, through chapter 14 at least 30 times. Why? At some point I couldn't take the 1-2 month wait between chapters (DAMN YOU CLIFFHANGERS I CURSE YOU) anymore and just basically stopped following new content of my favourite item in the MAL database. I still got excited about new releases, but just downloaded them whether it was raw or a Makimaki release and let them be. I however kept reading the same 15ish chapters of what I had already read before :D Today, okay technically yesterday, I found ch35 available as scanlation and read this manga from ch1 thru ch35.. about 15 chapters of which I've not read before. Best. Decision. Ever. Thanks to MakiMaki and Morinaga Milk for providing this piece of entertainment. I'm glad I totally bought the first Tankoubon a while ago, and I'm ready to buy the remaining 3 (soon 4) if I should find them available somewhere! |
